Reiner: "So Eren, remember when your childhood hometown got destroyed?" Eren: "Shiganshina, yeah why?" Reiner: " Yeaaaah so here's the thing..."

The legendary episode. There's so many little hints about Reiner and Bertholt throughout season 1, but without knowing it's so hard to notice. Just before they fought the female titan, when Armin was talking to Reiner, he told him that he believes the female titan is intelligent, and Reiner was dead silent. His face was like "man, this guy is sharp". Armin then told Jean the same thing, and Reiner asked Armin "why would you think that", you could hear in his voice he was playing dumb and he had this worried look on his face. Also when we thought Eren died in season one and just before Armin was going to tell that to Mikasa, we see Annie, Reiner and Bertholt. Annie asks Reiner "what should we do now", and Reiner tells her something in the lines of "Not now, we have to wait for them to gather", which was really out of context at the time. There's also a couple of scenes where Armin came up with the plan to use the lift and blind the titans with the rifles in the gas supply building. Just before he shares his plan, Reiner asks Connie how much he knows about Eren's titan, and Connie's like "why does that matter"... There's many more ofcourse :)

And that's how you do a reveal! Just because something is unexpected doesn't make it a good twist. The twist has to be there at the beginning. You reveal the twist then show little snippets throughout the series to back up this sudden revelation. So we'll watch again, fully knowing the twist and look for anything else about it.

One other that is not mentioned much is when Armin, Jean, and Reiner are chasing the Female Titan in the first season, Armin tells them to put up their hoods so the Female Titan wouldn't be able to tell if they were Eren or not. Then, when Reiner goes in for the attack, he purposefully removed his hood so that Annie could see that it was him. The scene even pauses on the shot of Annie looking at Reiner.

It’s funny cause at this point it’s pretty tame in terms of writing and storytelling. Not to say season 1 and 2 is bad but Season 3 is where it steps up a notch

Don't get me wrong aot seasons 1 and 2 are amazing but after watching season 3 you see how well crafted the whole story actually is and how everything is completely interconnected within the plot, their significance will increase to god tier after season 4.

15:10 you could rewatch after every season almost XD Another clue : Annie said to Armin "I didn't expected you to corner me like this... I failed as a warrior" ;p

Loved how casual Reiner's confession was! It was so casual and unexpected that I literally thought I was misreading things as well lol. Even thought all of this was some kind of error in translation or something, but no...Reiner just kept on talking like it was just a normal everyday thing 😂 The flag snapping basically symbolized both the tension finally breaking as well as Reiner snapping in that moment. Brilliant! And poor Eren. A day ago he found out about Annie and then now Ymir along with Reiner and Bertholdt all on the same day? It's a lot to take in honestly. Not to mention the fact that fellow friends and comrades you looked up to and toiled together for 3 years are the ones responsible for so much death and suffering.

several things to say. one, glad you didnt watch the dub. for whatever reason when reiner mentions being grabbed by the female titan, in the dub he calls her annie, despite hes not supposed to know who the female is other wise it would give him away. second, the revelation is always great. just the casual "im the armored titan and hes the colossal titan." imagine if your friend just causally went " i was part of the 911 bombings. third, the episode after they fought the female titan during their expedition, armin, jean, and reiner were left with one horse between them. armin volunteered to stay behind while jean and reiner would go ahead, however armin was saying to reiner "I need you to deliver a message. This is of upmost importance. If possible deliver it to Erwin himself" but before he could finish historia arrives. makes me think he was about to tell reiner of all people that he had his suspicions on who the female titan was.

@@hotshootful We know, but characters don't. People in 104th squad except EMA were kept out of loop purposefully and w/o ODM when Annie capture was happening. Erwin already suspected if Annie is a titan, her allies might be there too. The fact that Colossal and Armoured were still on large didn't helped things either. These events (Season 1 ep 22- Season 2 episode 12) happen in 2 days back to back, so no one except scouts and higher up know who Annie is. In fact we learn in seson 3 that even after 3 months, common public never learnt who or where female titan is.

I honestly love how casual the reveal was. It was pretty much the same thing in the manga, if I remember correctly. No dramatic splash page or anything... Just Reiner going "yeah dude I'm the armored titan and he's the colossal. Let's go for a few drinks, man. That cool?"

Been wanting to tell this for quite a while, some easter egss. Try to rewatch season 1 episode 2 you'll see young annie, reiner and bert. Also, season 2 episode 5 when ymir asked them to grab onto her, bert was about to bite his hand and transform 😊

14:42 besides the steam, you can literally see him wink and head tilt implying for Annie to put him in her hand XD

Many reactors wrongly think that "Reiner and Bertolt revealed themselves." It was actually *Reiner alone* who reveailed himself and Bertolt. Just look at Bertolt's face and reaction when Reiner was telling this to Eren. He didn't expect it at all!

Reiner: *We destroyed the wall 5 years ago I am the armored titan and he is the colossal titan.* Literally Everyone: *Surprised Pikachu Face*

It only gets better from here. Not gonna lie, I remember watching AoT at the time and being rather lukewarm toward it, but by the time we hit the end of Season 2 and across the entire third season I couldn't help but growing more and more fond of it. I now legitimately consider this one of the greatest anime shows ever released... And not for the lack of knowledge about what else is around.

If you go back to the previous episode, when the castle is falling and Historia is cheering with her hands up, yimir jumps to the top and tells them to hop on her. They show a shot of historia, Bert, reiner, n Connie. If you look at Berthold in that shot, he's clearly about to bite his hand and transform

3:06 this is exactly where Reiner snapped. Seconds before Eren says something like: You guys are driven to far from your homeland, and Reiner snaps out of his character and gets the weirdest shocked face, that's when Burrito reminds him that they should return home. This happened even before when Ymir, Burrito, Reiner and Eren was chilling on the trees. Reiner just casually forgets that he fucking caused up to half of the population dead because of what they did and talks about something so random. And then Eren got so angry because Reiner was acting like nothing had happened before.

If you watch the s4 trailer, there's part when Reiner and Eren was talking and it was like this ...~ Eren ~ “I think i understand you now" “You want to save the world right ?!" Reiner~ “Shut up!" “Why can't you just let me die?!" It show that he don't want to kill humanity, but the responsibility he had force him to did that.

Yay, I've been super excited for this reaction! By the way, Reiner and Bertholdt were only 12 when they busted down the walls

The thing that always pissed me off is that Reiner looks exactly like the Armored Titan, so it seemed like a possibility early on, but Bertholdt’s hinted similarities are that he’s tall and he sweats a lot.

Fun fact, by the time Annie had attacked during her first appearance as the female titan, Armin had already figured out it was her. When Armin, Reiner and Jean were stuck outside the wall with only two horses during that expedition, Armin offered to get left behind with one condition, that Reiner report something to command, directly to commander Erwin if possible. If Armin told Reiner that he knew Annie was the female titan, things would have turned out MUCH differently, but Historia came with an extra horse, and probably saved Armins life.
