The first 10 minutes of this episode was just the greatest scene in anything I’ve ever scene. The unbelievable ost, the top tier animation and shot composition, and the greatest example of character writing I’ve ever seen. Even as a manga reader who has known about this sequence for a long time, every time I watch it I’m filled with the same dread. Great video on an emotional roller coaster of an episode.

You know we can have our own opinion whether the final chapter will be good or not, right? And even more if we actually watch the episode. Genius! That's why almost no one dislikes the alliance in the anime community. You guys are just such babies for the ending that no one thinks it will actually be bad. I’m glad you brought up the “AOT supports facism” debate because Jesus Christ I see it so much and media literacy has to be dead. Idk how they see a show/manga that has multiple chapters just explaining a character’s motivations to have like a few lines of dialogue that make it support facism. It has themes of facism BUT it doesn’t support it. Like people bring up Eldians in Marley had an example but do they honestly think that it’s shown and a good thing that Eldians are oppressed in Marley? People need to know the difference between having themes and endorsing themes.

YES! It is so bad. I know I literally only spend 2 or so min on it in this video. But I plan to go into MUCH further detail in a later video. All the antagonists the perpetuate this war are victoms of propaganda and a government that enforces their facist views. It by no means condones it. And says all regmees under this type of rule inately bring war and death.

seeing Hange’s sacrifice the first time,,,,oh my gosh the feelings. They were a favorite of mine the first ep we rlly got to meet and know them. Everything about it was just amazing, the music, the animation, the scale, the little moment they had with Levi before, their death in itself and how they went in a literal blaze of glory. It got me choked up for sure but the when she woke back up in the afterlife, and she saw the others take off and being reunited with everyone,,,, that’s the part that got me,,, I was so happy for them that they got to see everyone, and ofc go out on their own terms and in a very Hange way. But still so sad because like it’s Hange !! and they were such a cool entertaining and genuine character. This whole ep was just a masterpiece I’m so excited and terrified for the ending

I know people praise Attack on Titan for the characters, the story, the plot twists, the animation, the voice acting, the action scenes, the OST, etc... and I agree. In many respects, AoT is probably one of the best pieces of media ever made, simply because so many important qualities were realized all in one place. But for me, personally, the thing that makes AoT a legendary show is its philosophy, and how thought provoking it is. Attack on Titan does not state ANY actual messages. Are Jeagerists right? Is Marley right? Is Eren right? Is Zeke right? Are Scouts right? The show doesn't actually say who is. But it makes you think more than any other show. About what is actually right and wrong, and why. About the nature of humanity, war, sacrifice, friendship, racism, genocide, love, xenophobia, take your pick. I've seen so many deep, insightful conversations that AoT triggered that it's hard to imagine. Rarely, if ever, you see villains that are properly represented. Who you can honestly root for, and not because heroes are idiots, but simply because the choices are so hard to make, and every motivation is deep, human and grounded in reality of those guided by it. Attack on Titan is a masterpiece because it's more than entertainment. It goes way beyond that.

The production value for this episode is insane. It basically combined everything that animation has achieved as a medium up till now. Detailed character models and backgrounds, gorgeous lighting and colors, CGI that blends in well with the artstyle (this was really the saving grace given how absurd the rumbling is to adapt on screen), great voice acting, amazing music from Kohta Yamamoto and superb directing from Yuichiro Hayashi. It's kinda baffling that Mappa was able to achieve this given how ridiculously tight their deadlines were for the final season. It's the kind of production that would normally be a recipe for disaster and yet it somehow was the furthest thing from that. The animators really do deserve more time and money for their efforts.

I've been thinking about Eren's turn to antagonist for a while now. At the end of S3 you just knew that things are not as they seem but I still didn't expect Eren to become the baddie though and that speaks to the complexity of the story. Just think about it; Eren Kruger, Zeke, Reiner, & Eren Yeager all committed atrocities(mostly to their own people) because they were doing what they felt was right. I mean one of the most iconic lines in the show for me was Eren Kruger saying (paraphrasing) '... maybe I'm still a little boy looking at the world through a cracked closet door..." while explaining to Grisha the sacrifices he had to make to stay undercover for years and further the Eldian Restoration program. The kicker to all of this is that for all that, he exhausted his 15 years and ended up having to pass on the Attack Titan to a man he barely knew. One of the central themes that AOT is constantly mulling over is that the ends don't always justify the means, but that the world is so flawed and therefore the characters that inhabit that world are as well, that events often spiral out of control no matter how good the intentions are. It leaves those with the power to change things stuck between a rock and a hard place but in the end, as young Eren Yeager says to Mikasa, 'kill or be killed'. The idea that the feeling of powerlessness drives even the best among us to gain power over others no matter the cost looms heavy throughout S4 which helps contextualise Eren's descent into villainy. Brilliant writing in this show from the very first scene till now.

Same way as hange's scene alone they added many MANY more shots to showcase certain emotionals or elements that we are meant to be seeing that probably didnt come across great in the Manga. To me the endings pacing was my biggest issue and dialogue I dont think translated well. Or just wasnt written the best. Overall I just can't see massive changes happening this late in the game.

Those events are literally ages part. I need to check how many months Eren spent in Marley but it is literally that simple. Diplomacy early talks failed. And armin and hange weren’t able to devise any plan to satisfy Eren. And without Eren they losed their ace. Now taking into account the abilities of the attack titan it makes it even more of a “talking failed let’s mass murder” because it’s a comment on a self fulfilling prophecy. If you believe someone is your enemy and you do everything in your power to continue this. You’re only going to perpetuate a hateful, agressive response. Most often… war.

OKAY SO STOP WATCHING! Go to crunchyroll or funimation or where ever you watch Anime. And watch the latest episode. That is what this is all about. Actually you need to watch episode 28 too! Because if thats the last thing you saw. You are missing "the Dawn of Humanity" too. So yeah stop watching and watch those two eps. Both are like some of the best TV you will see.

It would be great if you could support the cause for those chapters to recover their rating by voting positively on IMDB

THANK YOU. god it sickens me to no end to be lumped in with the fucking Nazi LOSERS who lurk in the corners of this fandom. how people interpret the messege of the show is something i struggle with. i do acknowledge that Isayama is a japanese person raised in japan that do carry a lot of imperialist views, and that he used Akiyama Yoshifuru (a very bad man) as an inspiration for Dot pixis, who is one of the most beloved characters on the show. I like to think Dot is different enough that the similarities arent there, but at the end of the day Isayama regarded him as a great man, and that sucks to hear. as a viewer i must do my best to see him as separate and not endorse the actions of his inspiration. liking the show that happens to have characters lightly inspired from bad people i never knew existed has had randoms on the internet accuse ME of being a nazi by affiliation, going so far as trying to call me out on facebook of all places. that shit is and always will be, disgusting. if you dont like the show, sure, that's one thing. but writing the whole thing off as as any kind of political dog whistle is a surface level dismissal at best and downright disengenuous nonsense at worst. but people dont want their minds changed, they just wanna argue, so its best to leave them to it I say. and overall, due to the bleakness of the show they assumed depiction is equal to endorsement. if they wanna miss the point, be my guest. they dont represent us. its frustrating as shit. i just want to like this beautiful, imperfect show with great music and amazing character arcs. go be miserable somewhere else.

Now I watch those shows where I can turn my brain off and enjoy the ride, cause if I do otherwise, I will find myself compare the show I'm watching to AOT and that will ruin the experience for me. The only thing I want to add is that The Rumbling was quite literally the only possible alternative for the people in Paradis. If we're to extrapolate the story to the real world, then the message of the show is to not cause a cycle of hatred to begin with. To say that there were other ways is to pretend to know more than the Attack Titan itself, as well as to throw Eren's entire character arc in the trash, to say that the Warriors had a choice, that Ymir should just stay on her own as a slave forever, and that the Eldians in Marley had to simply put up with it for a little longer, it's complete nonsense. The goal of the story is clear as day, if you don't want to be trampled by Eren, then don't create an Eren. You can't get more anti-fascist than this, the whole LARP narrative behind Nazi Germany is that they were being oppressed by the world and the Treaty of Versailles, and WW2 undoubtedly wouldn't have happened if the fascists didn't have these scapegoats to justify their atrocities.

@@DareToEntertain I'm anime only, and have been trying to see the "Eren had other options on the table" view. In the latest episode, first scene he says looking at the people in Marley "I kill them. It's already determined that I do. I imagine no one ever found a way for Paradis Island to survive.", implying it the rumbling, or the death of Paradis. The main thing I don't like if Eren had other options this whole time is the whole cycle of hatred theme is no longer directly pushing what's happening. Instead you just have a crazy guy deciding this is the solution, collapsing literally everything that the story has built up for no payoff. Maybe I'm wrong, or missing something. Maybe I'll get all the answers in the final episode and this comment will turn out completely useless lol

@@zachariemelanson485 I think for eren this is the solution, even considering the other options on the table was not in question for him, as he has said before he is not ready to sacrifice historia for the 50 year plan and he obviously isn't going to do the euthanisation plan. Each plan had flaws, but eren's end goal was ultimatley saving the few people he cared about, so he took the path that gave him the most chance of saving his friends. I think it makes sense for eren's character, why he originally wanted to do it and why even after learning of the world beyond the walls he still continued with it. I don't see what is wrong with eren thinking that the rumbling was the solution. I think it makes complete sense for his character, and the cycle of hatred is still pushing his actions, as the only reason he is doing this is to end the cycle of hatred.

@@DareToEntertain I have tried to explain to so many people that the "my people or your people mindset"group is stupid, even eren, the person doing the rumbling does not have this ideology, as shown by him talking with Reiner and ramzi, he says "it's the same inside the walls and outside, there are good people and there are bad people, it's the same" Eren also thinks of the people of Paradis and Marley as the same, but as also said by him he wants his friends to live long lives and that he can't accept a solution where Paradis is destroyed because that means his friends won't be able to live their lives freely. Eren cares more about his friends than any country or grp of people, as shown by the fact he won't sacrifice historia even if it might mean that he won't have to do the rumbling. People don't understand that what Eren does is wrong, because genocide will always be wrong, and we'll be damned before we justify it somehow( hange reference?!?!?). People not understanding what isayama was trying to do leads to groups of people forming that believe that AOT supports eren's actions because people in the fandom believe he was right. It's just stupid all around. AOT has one of the best cautionary tales I have ever watched, so it's a little annoying when people misinterpret it. It gets its themes across so well that I am going to remember it for the rest of my life.

  • @zachariemelanson485

@@kabirarya5381 I don't think I made myself clear. When I said I don't get the "Eren had other options on the table", I meant some people say he had better options available that aren't so extreme, that would cause less damage and save his friends. Sounds to me like we mostly agree. Eren never really had a choice, given that his goal is to save his friends and the people of Paradis. The only thing is we can't know for sure exactly how certain Eren is about the future, and exactly how much he saw. His actions are not justified if he didn't explore other possibilities, but they are justified if the life of his friends and people are threatened with all the other solutions put forward. In my first comment I just wanted to understand what brings people to think he had other options and is basically doing this because his past turned him into a monster. My view is he is FORCED to play the monster (to save the people he loves), and some people say he basically chose to be the monster. Sorry, I don't understand exactly what you mean by "I think it makes sense for Eren's character, why he originally wanted to do it and why even after learning of the world beyond the walls he still continued with it.". By "do it" you mean the Rumbling? Because wanting to do the rumbling before he knew about the world outside the walls doesn't make sense... Did you mean Eren still wanted to do it after he lived in Marley and realized people there are the same? Because yeah, that all makes sense and I agree.

Not sure where the nonsense accusations of fascism came from, but it's usually from left-leaning dipshits who have zero clue on what fascism is and think that anything that portrays militarism or self defense of your ethnic group in a positive light = fascism. If anything, the show has a more realistic portrayal of imperialism due to the fact that nations like Eldia and Marley continued to dominate the rest of the world due to might. However near the end it brings the uncomfortable truth that trying to genocide a certain group of people for being "monsters" will inevitably bring out the monsters in them anyway.
