ATOTO Double Din head unit - I've killed all the cars it was supposed to go in.

ATOTO have very patiently waited and waited. And I've either killed or sold all the cars this was supposed to be fitted to.
So I promised them some kind of video for their Black Friday event. This is it. Sorry.

I have a A6 ATOTO radio for a couple of years now and after time it causes a parasitic draw, others have said the same thing. I contacted ATOTO about this and they want to blame everything else but their own radio, they will say you wired it wrong and other stuff. As a 30 year plus mechanic I think I know what I am doing and how to pin point a parasitic draw lol

    How parasitic was the draw?

@@DavidMcLuckie if I remember right it was around .079 and was only on the contestant 12v feed. I even plugged the original OEM radio back in for a couple of weeks and had no parasitic draw. When I Google the ATOTO head set and battery drain I was surprised how many others was having this problem and was told the same thing from ATOTO that it's not their radio lol

Well engineered unit, I wonder if I can get a fitting for a Volvo S80 as the Radio in that is ancient & I could do with knowing if I can still use the Volvo power Amplifier under the drivers seat 💺 🤔

when you first turn on the unit it takes 10-20 seconds but each time after its about 2 seconds. its faster than oem double din radios with apple car pay and android auto like my wifes 2021 toyota highlander it takes10+ seconds everytime the radio is turned on. hope this helps.

I had an ATOTO head unit fitted to my T6 Transporter, it was dog slow and eventually I couldn't change the clock or brightness settings from the settings menu, tried everything but no joy, eventually binned it and went for a Kenwood DMX9720XDS, better response though not as useful as an Android based system for app functionality.

That looks a nice head unit as as you mentioned the screen looks really nice, compared to mine it boots up really quick but I do use a Car Launcher on mine which will take longer. I wanted to fit one like this in my SLK but it only has space for a single din so ended up getting one with a pop up screen but it's really nice as does everything you would need from an Android unit👌👍

The last time I had a pop out screen was on a Clarion head unit. It was connected to the rest of the 'head unit' with a thick cable and huge plugs. Now it's all in one unit. Amazing.

Will a unit like this fit in a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado? Mine still has the factory unit in it and it has died.

I have one almost just like that one. I really like it, although it was kind of a pain to set up. It wouldn't load some things at first but after several attempts they all worked. I don't use the GPS, because you can't listen to music at the same time, so I use Waze on my phone. I really like using the phone bluetooth tho, it makes it so much safer to use while driving. With the Boze system in my 03 Tahoe, the music just rocks! Mine also has a USB port on the front I get my music storage from. I also use a bluetooth OBD2 and use Torque all the time because I have an errant code that keeps popping up, and it is real easy to reset it. Great unit you won't regret using one.

I just figured out that it has been draining the battery, and had to buy a new one. Any suggestions on how to prevent that?

I've got one of the A8s these and its actually pretty good. Best android auto head unit I could find for under £400. And if I can't be asked to plug my phone in the base android is pretty good actually.

It looks quite OK. I burned my way through a few chinese units where the actual version of Android is not what it reports on the front end. My current unit is also quite sluggish on GPS - so much so that I don't use it.

There is usually a 'secret' menu. If you Google or ask the manufacturer they'll give you the code to access it.

Let me try. What does the exhaust smell like from the exhaust pipe? Is there a lot of white smoke from the exhaust at startup? Is the heater duct intake drawing in exhaust gases from the exhaust? Have you disassembled the heater to look for defects such as a perforated heat exchanger, fuel leaks, gasket failure?

If you've done all that and still have fumes from the hot side then the casing must be compromised somewhere with either a hole or a crack.

I can't remember on this unit specifically, but a lot of them have a video input and a dashcam (dvr) app. You can put any camera input into it and record.
