Absolutely wonderful. This came at the perfect time. My friend was sharing with me his pains and struggles and all I was doing was trying to fix it - but all he needed was someone to lend an ear.

I normally really enjoy your summaries, but this summary is the "near enemy" of the book's actual message. (A key concept to the book's thesis). Our failure to develop meaningful connections isn't because we are stuck in these 3 "emotional towns". The book covers over 80 emotions, yet this summary disappointingly only covered the first of the book only. (Notice how I used disappointing here not to refer to a person but to an unmet outcome, the actual meaning of the word). I highly encourage everyone to read the book because it's far deeper than this summary. The true core message of this book is that the language to express our emotions is foundational to developing meaningful connections. If you rely on only avoiding disappointment, envy, and pity to build your relationships, you won't go far with this map.

Wow! This book has so add-on points which everyone could relate to. I feel that I sometimes put myself in Pity town rather than Compassion town. Also applies to Expectations. It's a guide to better myself with my connections.

I am German, and I have never ever heard the word: "Freudenfreude". That word sounds completely nuts. It's like saying something like "pleasurespleasure" in English. On the contrary, "Schadenfreude" is a well-used term in German.

I agree. There is no German word Freudenfreude. Brown's research on emotions does not pass the smell test. She seems more imterested in making millions from her new book than doing original research on envy. Fake words reduce her credibility as an emotions researcher. I cannot recommend her new book.

Freudenfreude seems to be a word that psychotherapists and "emotion researchers" made up to simply mean the opposite of Schadenfreude

This summary is so simplistic and watered down from the essence of Brene's book! In my opinion, it's not even close to her core message.
