Atlas Compressor with Bass: Official Source Audio Demo

Музыка

The Atlas Compressor offers a comprehensive collection of compression circuits that perfectly capture the tone and feel of the industry’s most sought-after compressors. Straight out of the box, Atlas delivers six different styles of compression, ranging from classic stompbox compressors like the now-discontinued Diamond Optical Compressor to high-end rack units such as the snappy 1176 compressor and the smooth and gentle LA2A optical compressor. This video demos the Atlas in Bass Optimization Mode. Each of the six onboard compression circuits can be reloaded and optimized for bass guitar with a simple button press.
Thank you to Jesse Williams of The Mississippi Allstars for the amazing bass playing in this demo video.

Just picked one of these up. My live gig compression has been the MXR M87 for years and I've been happy with it. Definitely used more as a transparent compressor with a quick release for when I slap. I tend to record dry and use various compressor plugins when editing in post. The M87 is a great pedal, but the Atlas is in a completely different class for only $50 more. I'm LOVING the Atlas. It can do everything the MXR can and so much more. It sounds as good as some paid comp plugins. Compression tones I was only able to achieve in post production I now can accomplish live. Whether I want transparent limiting, colored warmth and smooth fatness, or mixing all of the above, this pedal is stellar. I'm looking forward to the Android Neuro app updating so I can use my tablet for live metering and deeper on the fly editing. The C4 was my first Source Audio pedal. I was blown away and the Atlas is no different. (Funky slow claps on the 1 and 3)

Hey, I just got one of these, I was hoping you could answer a question. This video says when you put the pedal in bass mode you get 6 presets optimized for bass. Does this mean that if you load press from the neuro app, you can replace the guitar mofe presets with bass presets, and then you can load 12 bass presets?, I know i should just try it, but to be honest, im new to the compression thing an I honestly can't tell the difference between guitar and bass preset, making it hard for me tell if it loaded the presets I selected. Anyway, can you answer, I'd really appreciate it. Their support has left a lot to be desired, so we gotta help each other out, you know

@@buckemptier In the software you can actually access and modify up to 128 different presets, available via midi commands (including the 6 presets available via the switch/alt mode). You can use a midi footswitch such as the soleman to access these live (though much simpler ones would also suffice I believe), otherwise they would still be accessible and saved via the neuro app - just inaccessible live.

In most of these example, it sounds better when you turn the compressor on, but it also clearly gets louder. And as we know, everything sounds better louder. It would be a more useful comparison if you adjust the effected and un-effected volume levels to be identical.

The pedal has an automatic make up gain to it, so it wouldn't be possible, I don't think, to have them the same. If course if it truly was just make up gain then it wouldn't be any louder, so... And also that's kind of the point, that's what compression is, it's a dynamic effect that makes louder possible by evening out the signal.

Would this pedal work for me??? So. I have an acoustic guitar with dual source: internal mic and K&K pure mini going into a stereo pre-amp. Could I feed the mic to i/p 1 and the pick up i/p 2 and have full control of each? Thanks for chiming in if you have/use such a set up.

hey Daniel, i've been doing a bunch of research on this pedal and yes you can do that. The Atlas has stereo ins and outs which seem to be standard for Source Audio's line of pedals. Within the Neuro Editor's hardware functions, you can set the Atlas to act as two separate compressors. However with what i've been able to find, setting the parameters for each compressor seems to only be accessible in the Neuro App or from an external MIDI controller using their proprietary MIDI adaptor. if you don't mind a "set it, forget it" dual compressor, or having a phone/laptop/midi controller plugged in to tweak as needed, then this is a good choice my two cents based on my experience as an engineer, you set the compressor(s) to the style of player, the input level, and the instrument's dynamics. for example, if you're running an acoustic with dual outputs, setting each compressor to some industry standard settings, then setting input/output levels could be an ideal solution for your needs. alternatively, you can have a mixer pedal to sum the signals before the compressor then have a mono output signal going to your amp or PA.

Disappointed it didn't come with the 4 preset button, because I play guitar and bass. So until I get an extra grand to cover the Soleman, two Neuros, and another Mondo Power module, I have to pick either one for playing live.

@@johncbeer yes they said in the video that it comes with 6 presets for guitar, and you out it in bass mode and you get the bass versions of the 6 presets, which is basically with different attack and release times. Then you can load 6 completely different presets using the computer or phone aps. Edit : they say it in the guitar video not this one. You don't have to every time it's turned off. You can set the bass mode without urning it on I think, therefore turning it on and off doesn't effect bass mode. That is my understanding of it, though ik no expert. What im trying to figure out is off you CA overwrite the guitar mode presets with bass presets from the neuro app, and then you'd have 12 bass presets. But im not sure if bass mode is actually a different mode or if it's just another set of presets

The Seymour Duncann really is a great compressor and it's available at a good price point. However, I ordered an Atlas and kept my Seymour Duncan just in case. I can't imagine ever taking the Atlas off my board and putting the SD back on. There is a preset that emulates the Diamond Bass compressor which I used to own, and this Atlas preset sounds even better. This pedal really is a game-changer.
