I would really like to see a new version of Pacific fleet where it was revamped to be exactly like Atlantic Fleet

Third ship in Graf Spee class was Deutschland, but they became nervous about losing a ship named 'Germany', and renamed her Lutzow

No, the treaties had nothing to do with the renaming, that was Hitler's idea basically, to avoid any loss of morale from losing a ship named after the Fatherland. He made the decision after the Graf Spee was lost. There was a Hipper class cruiser supposed to be named Lutzow as well, but it was sold unfinished to Russia in 1940 , freeing up the name so they could rename Deutschland.

On the contrary, the physics talk is great. You don't get stuff like that from gamers, and with a game like this, the more info the better. Nice vid.

"it doesn't show wind strength" yes, it does. The darker blue the wind marker is, the stronger the wind.

HE shells work better against Destroyers and merchants, as they have no armor plating. It's also generally recommended to use AP shells if their armor thickness is equal to or greater than half your barrel width.

Just want to point out that this is not world of warships and that there is no over pen system in place. Not sure if you're relating this to world of warships or not but just thought I'd mention it!

Love the game, been playing as Germany too. Early 41 still and sinking 80k+ tonnage. A note thou, early on I spent hours sinking merchants fleeing after I killed of the escort. Now is auto kill of merchant from the map/? menu. Good luck

+JamesTMAK1 For this campaign mode (Battle of the Atlantic), I'm going to focus on submarine warfare, and subs are really powerful from my experience so far (against *everything*, even surface ships). But I plan to collect a pool of the best ships for surface engagements, because that's lots of fun :)

Hah! Came across your channel with the Victory at Sea Pacific demo and saw you have done most of the other games I was researching lately haha. Was playing some old school Silent Hunter 3 as I was feeling a WW2 naval itch and it also led me to checking out games like this as well as Cold Waters which I see you have done one of too XD. Thanks for taking the time to make these.

Somewhat accidentally, my channel has morphed into a naval combat focused one. I'm still a huge fan of general wargames and play those, but the naval stuff is particularly popular. You mentioned WitP:AE in your other comment, so I'd like to recommend you check out the Rule the Waves content. It's not WW2 (more WW1 time), but it's a real gem that mixes naval combat with ship design and throws a bit of strategy/budget management on top of that. Cheers!

No, not in this game. Unless you mean listing, then it does affect the shell trajectory.

As the royal navy its pretty easy to win the Battle of the Atlantic. All you have to do is get 30 Subs and place 1 in each sector, this prevents any german u boats from attacking convoys for some reason and you can then pretty much do whatever the Damn you want, if you want you can even purchase surface ships later (I would recommend 1 heavy BB,1CVE because they are cheaper and 1 DD )to hunt after some subs or surface ships.

I done battle of the atlantic and I managed to sink the hood so I managed to get Bismarck and tirpitz when I unlocked them

You should move subs to the entrance of the Mediterranean so when warspite comes out you can sink it

It's great as a single WW2 naval battle simulator.

The reason on limiting ships you can build is for 2 reasons .... 1. the A.I. would out produce you in battleship making it impossible to have a surface engagement. 2. Germany didn't has access to the metals needed to build these ships so Germany would never be able to field more battleship then what they actually produced purely in terms of material.... that was the biggest issue with Germany wartime economy it completely relied on imports for war material

I think I might pick this up, £6.99 on steam, not to shabby a price.

Awww comeon! Being better at taking advantage of the wind than the AI makes this game fun.

Hi! When I choose Battle of the Atlantic I manage to engage the enemy but then my ships get damaged and run out of ammo and torpedoes... How do I send them for repair and reload ammo? Cheers! Thomas

You send the ship/ships back to port, and then click "repair/re-arm" (the little wrench icon) and select the ship/ships.

think it's due to gravity, mostly. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ideal_projectile_motion_for_different_angles.svg makes some intuitive sense, perhaps. honestly, it's all magic to me. hope this helps.

The type IX wasn’t ”better” than the type VII. It had longer range but the type VII was more manouverable etc.

Yeah, they are pretty comparable. I think the VII had better diving speed, but less depth -- mostly as you said it was about range. I believe that Atlantic Fleet treats the VII as "worse" though.

@@TortugaPower If I remember correctly the VII's could crash dive in 30 secs...while the longer range patrol IXs required a full Minute .

8:00 It‘s not true that gun elevation/range ratio is linear. And if you are so keen on realism, switch on the wind effect.

Germany had so many more ships to play with that had been built or just designed, why didnt they add more for both sides?

Iv basically won every battle no matter which side I play but I lose every campaign How do you win??

You don't need to hit lightly armored ships to do damage. A near miss will be equally deadly.

the main point of using HE shells is to make a explosion inside enemies ships to make the most damage, but if it unable to penatrable, it will do almost no damage, so depend on the angle u shoot the ship u use HE or not. Also if the gun angle is so great about 25 to 30 I also use ap because with large callable guns, even hit water next to the ship even do damage (the distance is long, accurate not very reliable

Yeah, the AP usage into the water is even better if the shell continues its travel into the lower hull under the belt. "Waterline" hits are devastating since ships usually aren't armored below waterline.

Use a compressor to take the tail end reverb out of your mic audio.

@@TortugaPower audacity has one, I think most audio apps will. You just need something that is more strict with cutting volume when you stop speaking, compressors generally do this, they normalise the volume so that the moment you stop speaking it is silent, and when you are speaking the volume is consistent, but some dynamics are lost - this is fine for speech. Some modern mics do this with noise suppression and other functions. Some people put sound proofing foam behind their screen, egg cartons with the tops ripped off will also help, to minimise audio reflections from the walls.

Love the game only being 12$ or at least that’s what I got it for.

This is more of an arcade style game than strategy. It’s pretty much shoot till you find range. I’m sure it was to a certain extent in real life as well, where it’s mostly by feel and experience than doing a formula to get perfect shot. Too many variables, but then again he turned all the variables off like wind. Bland...

Thanks for pointing that out. I think you're correct on this, but I don't know myself.

So I did learn a lot about the game from you but please for the love of god, shoot HE, high explosive, instead of AP, armor piercing at destroyers. Destroyers do not have armor so an AP shell will pass straight through the ship without ever arming doing minimal damage

Please don't always use the map for weapon ranges. The game is trying to model WWII naval gunnery.

Howdy IronDuke, a name I recognize from somewhere (the AtG forum perhaps). In this series I will be using the map throughout the campaign for range-finding (it's already been recorded for a year or so).

Eww...math and physics talk! Sacrilege! Game looks interesting, but it sucks you can't go full AU. Talk about a drawback...if you can't build more surface ships than what the DKM had in actuality, there's not much chance of winning in a surface campaign. British numbers will eventually overwhelm you.

The game actually ends up being pretty easy (I defeated the Brits in this campaign), and although the submarines are hugely overpowered (or were at this time). Also, I'm not sure about this, but I think you can rebuild sunk ships? At least the AI does.

This would have been better if it had been realtime and multiplayer.
