Atlanta Falcons hiring process for head coach is flawed if it leads to Bill Belichick

Спорт

The Atlanta Falcons continue their search for their next head coach while former New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is poised for his second in-person interview with the team this weekend. Host Aaron Freeman wonders why the Falcons are so eager to go after him before speaking to other top candidates like Ben Johnson, Bobby Slowik, and Raheem Morris. He also discusses why despite defending the decisions of Falcons owner Arthur Blank and president Rich McKay in recent days, he can't any longer if they've settled on Belichick.
Later, he looks at why he thinks Belichick isn't the answer to solve the main issues that have held back the Falcons' last two coaches in Dan Quinn and Arthur Smith. He looks at quarterback development, play-calling, and roster management and how Belichick did an even poorer job fixing those same issues in recent years in New England.
Finally, he looks at the potential quarterback options the Falcons could be looking at this offseason and whether drafting a player or signing a veteran is the best move.

We’re in a tough spot trying to find the guy. It was easy to look at Arthur smith call games and say this feels sluggish and stupid. Not a single stretch of sustained rhythm on offense in 3 seasons with smith calling games. A head coach that doesn’t burn timeouts and manage clock game flow properly alone would be a massive upgrade over Arthur smith. An offensive coordinator that isn’t trash would be a massive upgrade. If Bill comes in and land a serviceable qb, a serviceable oc, they’ll break the losing season streak.

  • @davaughn2376

    @davaughn2376

I can see that because to me that was the biggest issue I had with AS. It’s like he was intentionally throwing games with some bone head stuff he would do. We need a oc with whatever coach we get. We also need a decent qb coach to help develop our players. I think we were a couple plays away from being a decent team but this season was suppose to be a good one because of the schedule so I don’t know how we look going forward. I just hope we’re not another joke of a team. I’m tired of that and I’m sure fans are too because the NFL seems really scripted with the way our team has looked in games.

Whos to say he cant learn from those mistakes? Whos to say he might work well with Terry and do better not worrying so much about the GM side of things. All the negatives about bellichick only work if you believe an old dog cant learn new tricks. Also let's stop writing Blank off. Hes a billionaire businessman. Hopefully he can ask the tough questions bill needs to answer before taking the helm.

I would rather bet a 4 to 5 year contract on Belichick to win a super bowl than a 10 year contract on a another failure like Author Smith to win me more grey hairs - some of ya'll are not real falcons fans if you think younger is a better options, no winning is the ONLY OPTION. Why does everyone surprisingly on the side of the falcons think getting a young HC equal winning the big game, you guys don't get it, the owner of the now Atlanta Falcons wants to see this team finally win a super bowl before he leaves the organization to it's fate. If he goes for a younger HC the likelihood of that happening is extremely low. Younger does not always mean better, they lack the expertise to get teams with potential to the big game and win it unlike Bill Belichick who've done this 6 times before.

However Bill is a winner, and a genius. Brady wasn't everything. Super Bowl win against the greatest show on turf was a defensive win. The last (6th) Super Bowl was a masterpiece (3 points allowed) (only 4 years ago). Atlanta could do worse. Do you really want another hot coordinator? Give Bill a chance. He knows how to win. Also, he didn't ruin his cap space by overpaying guys. He will be 72 years old before the next season starts. That matters. His lack of success without TB is concerning. Before you suggest that he made Brady list all of the other great QB's he built. He and Brady worked because Belichick did a good job of building a church for Tom to preach in. Brady is blessed with talents, competitiveness, and drive. He would win in most places. A guy leaving a team decline should not be your next HC.

After coming in third place in the worst division in football, with the easiest schedule, we aren't ready to win right now. We don't have a QB or a WR 2. We have no pass rush, and Bill can't get us any of that by next year because he is a terrible drafter.

To me everyone else is just the "hot pick" and not necessarily a good one. Thats how we fell into Arthur Smith. Fresh off a AFC championship appearance and look what happened. Bill has had a bad few seasons but he's also had bad qb play and injury bugs. He's got a proven track record of developing talent. A lot of those Patriot teams had no business being that good, especially on the defense side of the ball

  • @LionelLordOfTheThundercats

He has developed one QB in the last 25 years. He has drafted zero HOF RB, or WR. The only time his offense has ever worked is when he had the GOAT QB. All of his coaching tree has failed, he has failed the last few seasons. We need someone that can build a team, not someone that hasn't done that since 2001.

@@LionelLordOfTheThundercats And you think any of these other guys are capable of that? Yeah he hasn't drafted a HOFs.....besides Gronk and probably Edelman. Who werent really regarded as top players when drafted. And besides he's drafted and signed players that aren't HOFers but turned out to be studs. I'm old enough to remember how great those Patriot teams were. Not just Brady. And how we would always talk about how Bill would take other teams scraps and turn them into stars in his system. Brady was great, but he didnt play defense or special teams. And he didnt get the whole team prepared and ready every week with a gameplan. No he's not an offensive guy and he missed on QB. But the man also just had better ranked defense than us with players you can't even name. I'm not saying he's THE guy, but this whole he rode Brady's coattails argument is dumb.

  • @LionelLordOfTheThundercats

@@Real_2Phase Edelman isn't a HOF. Gronk is but again, he played with the GOAT Qb. Look how fast the entire Patriot system fell apart without Brady, who was taking a discount to play in NE, to run the show. He drafted bust after bust on his offense, that is what drove Brady to leave. Look at what every free agent that left NE said about him, they hated playing in his system. I am also old enough to remember what those Patriot teams actually were, and that is great defense, that were made because the Brady took less money and made the offense work because of his greatness. Bill would spend all the money of his defense and that would allow them to win. But once he didn't have the greatest Qb ever, his bad drafting and lack of offensive skill turned NE into a joke. So no Brady didn't play defense or special teams, but he also didn't take max contracts so that the team could pay for those units. And yes they had a better defense than us, because we don't have a pass rush, we turn the ball over and create short fields, and we have no depth on the D-line. My point is this, he couldn't find a qb in NE, why do you think he can find one in ATL? He couldn't rebuild after having Brady, so we are going to let him rebuild us after having Ridder?

I never say anything but I listen everyday and I have to chime in finally. I love most of your content Aaron. But you are really trippin on this BB situation. How could you not be on board with this hire. I pray we hire him. We need a winning culture here. We are talking about the same team that lost to the panthers, finished 3rd in the weakest division in football. Don't be scared of a winner. Yes, he's up in age. Who cares he's not running routes. He's bringing all that winning knowledge and game management etc etc. And finally a player will want to come here and play. You know it's true. And guess what, just from the rumors of hiring BB ATL is getting some national attention. Everyone here knows that never happens. It's nice not to have to watch just your show to see some content about the team I love. His age don't bother me, guess what nfl teams have alot of coaches (young) and he's just gone be guiding. He knows how to do it Things went bad in NE but noone can win without talent. ATL has talent. Hell I'm shocked he would come here. I hope like hell he accepts the job. Tired of every Sunday being a nightmare and hearing everyone bitch. And to see people fussing about this hire is beyond me.

Bill gets all the love for what he has done over his career but I just don't see it here. BB has won exactly one more game in the past three years than the guy we just fired. In that time, he had more power and control than any other coach in the league and for sure had a better roster in 21 and 22 than the Falcons had. He has also failed to develop to young QBs he hand picked. I don't see it but will support him if he gets the job as I would anyone else.
