ATI HPSS-32 (Black Arrays) Siren Test | University of Alabama | Hi-Lo, Voice. | Tuscaloosa, AL.

Ойындар

After the failure of the Thunderbolt 1000BTSC that I planned on recording in Birmingham, AL. I decided why not give University a shot, even though their testing schedule is unknown. Apparently, I believe they test on school years, but not during the summer? Who knows. It sounded off at 11:55am. I know there are polling tones in the background, but Tuscaloosa's Main Siren System was polling before their Noon Test. I'm not gonna bother to upload that because of the damn wind. But, it sounded nice to hear a Ambience in Tuscaloosa, although I believe Half of Tuscaloosa's system failed.
Siren Location: Downtown Tuscaloosa on Recreational Tennis Courts on Peter Bryce Blvd on University Campus.

    It's rare knowing that there are barely a few as active systems. Whitehouse, TX. And Troup, TX has them. Lastly a Refinery in Utah has them. A video of one from Utah was posted a few days later after mine.

  • @CentralALSirens

    @CentralALSirens

    2 жыл бұрын

    Entirely unsure. I just know that these are the First Gen ATI HPSS's that are Omni. University installed these when ATI was still producing these. Which was probably after the Terrible Outbreak of 2011 in April after the Devastation that occurred that day. Production only ran with these First Gens from 2009, and 2013. After that, just been the basic modern round white ones now.

    The first ATIs were basically DSA knockoffs. They sourced the speakers from whoever supplies them to FS. Their amps at the time were 400 watts instead of 1600, and the cabinets could only hold four so the sirens topped out at 1600 watts with the HPSS16. To compensate they ended up having the supplier build a version of the speaker array that went up to eight horns and offered the siren as omnidirectional and bidirectional for more SPL. At some point in the early 2000s they switched to the Kingstar/DKTec horns that they use today. In the mid 2000s they made the first generation of the rotating HPSS16 which I assumed used 16 100 watt drivers, and at some point they made a 400 watt driver very similar to Whelen's to be able to take the R-HPSS16 and break it in half to make the later generation version of the siren with two horns. They took the old design with four horns and adapted it to the new drivers and made it into the R-HPSS32. I think somewhere in that time period they developed these horns with the intention of making a R-HPSS4 given that the mounts seem to be made for them to be mounted upright on a rotator. If that actually were the case they probably bailed on that idea since these horns share too many similarities to the Hornet and putting it on their rotator would make it a clear knock off. At that point they probably said screw it and decided to make an omnidirection siren with them. The R-HPSS series really wasn't a good selling siren for them, and once they decided to drop them these basically hit the chopping block afterwards.
