I was born in India , lived in Ireland for over 15 years , and out of those 15 , 9 were spent in Athlone . I live in Toronto now , but boy do I miss Ireland and Athlone in particular. Every nook and corner of its roads and streets.. I hope to go back and and live in Athlone some day :`(

gordie1989 ', i discovered it for myself when I got married.. Lived in Dublin before moving to Athlone. Coz I had friends there and I wanted to get away from hustle and bustle of Dublin. Rents are cheaper, small town charms et al. I liked the size of Athlone.. Not too spread out and not too small either. I guess my time. Galway just 90 kms from there and Dublin 120 odd. Nice touristy town. I love traveling! South America is next
While on holiday in Ireland from the States, I took a train from Dublin to Galway and the train stopped in Athlone and I momentarily thought about just getting off there and chilling for two or three days before heading to Galway. I wish I would have done that!

Athlone culture involves family feuds, head cases and drinking dutch gold and having a bag of chips beside the river shannon.

Ah Shure it's not too bad. You get knackers and gheys in any town
Luckily some town official didn't get his way of demolishing the castle to make a carpark. Batteries demolition was an act of vandalism
