Atchafalaya Swamp Revisited (2004)

Atchafalaya (Uh-CHAF-ah-lie-ah) Swamp Revisited chronicles famed Louisiana nature photographer CC Lockwood's return to America's largest swamp wilderness, thirty years after his acclaimed Atchafalaya book (1981) and National Geographic article (1979). Sadly, Lockwood finds the most interesting and threatened species in the swamp have vanished. The story takes a sharp historical turn by exploring the degree to which the Atchafalaya Swamp has changed -naturally and culturally - since the great flood of 1927, while revealing an account of one of America's last and most intriguing frontier communities.

Loved this. Transplant to NYC 45 years ago, but miss Cameron Parish, Holly Beach, was born and raised there. Miss so much. Bayou runs in our veins.
