The T for Teen rating on Atari 50 is due to the interview clips, and has nothing to do with the content of the actual gameplay.

I am with Atari 50 because is also a love letter and the rescue of lost media like Air World and you can show it to Gen Z because some games had remastered coloring
From someone from the U.K. born in 1970, we had the VCS and that was it from Atari. Home computers had taken over to such a point that the 80s consoles just weren’t a thing. The video games crash and even the so called saviour, the mighty NES, didn’t impact the U.K. as it did in North America. Over the years I’d always considered Atari as something inconsequential although knowing there must be so many things I just didn’t know. I mean how could I when it was long before the internet and international TV offered the likes of The Waltons and The Dukes of Hazzard. The Atari 50 collection is the only time I’d ever looked at an Atari item. It’s the history that I don’t know about containing accurate information I’m unable to glean from the internet without a lot of difficulty and piecing together. To have the games documented, presented and playable to this standard is quite frankly astounding. The classics collection gives me none of that. I have no interest in online or any score that’s been posted by someone insignificant. For others they may see it in the complete opposite way, but for me I wish all collections were done like Atari 50.
AtGames also worked with Atari on the Flashbacks collections on Switch, whereas Digital Eclipse handled Atari 50. Even though AtGames often gets a bad reputation for how they have emulated games and consoles in the past, it sounds like they were paying attention this time. The "T" rating by the ESRB for Atai 50 is largely because of the documentary sections. The interviews contain a lot of profanity/crude dialogue and openly discuss how the staff at Atari did drugs at the company back in the 1970s. If you're looking for a compilation of games that also explores gaming history successes and failures in an unfiltered way, then Atari 50 would be the way to go.

Yeah when I first played Flashback I thought "oh no, At Games!" but instantly forgot they had anything to do with it. Honestly I've never had any terrible experiences with them though, I just know a lot of people find their 3rd party consoles cheap. That makes sense now (for the T rating). Maybe I should actually read the timeline instead of skimming through it lol

Thanks for the review. I also contemplated which collection to get, once I became aware of both. I went with the Atari 50, mostly because of the reimagined Yar's Revenge, and the fact that it has more Atari systems represented. I was particularly disappointed however that neither collection came with Space Invaders! Atari made 2600 games were (by and large) not as much fun as the games put out by Activision and Parker Brothers for the 2600 system. I would buy an Atari Activision collection, so long as it included the Atari 5200 versions of games.
I would love to have an Activision collection and a Midway one as well!
I definitely went with both game compilations that way you get the best of both worlds as they say. 😎👍

I'm wondering how they got the port done on Jaguar games, which had a special game pad with a crazy amount of buttons. I liked that system.
Atari 50 will always stand out as the best collection bundle for the home console ports. I may like the Flashback for the games not available on 50, but TBH, I’ve been enjoying the 50 heavily thx to Jaguar games being added, mostly Tempest 2000 being one of the best entries of the arcade series. I put that game’s value as close to Soul Calibur 2 on Gamecube, Tekken for Playstation 1, Cruisin’ for Switch, and House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return on Wii since it had so many good additions that makes the game enjoyable like music, enemies, modes, and weapon power-ups. So, in my book, Atari 50 will always be the best bundle.
I've got Flashback already, but I plan to get Atari 50 soon since even though there's a lot of crossover, both have enough unique games to be worth it. Especially with Atari 50 having Jaguar and Lynx games.

While I agree that the artwork for the Flashback collection is more reminiscent of old Atari box-art, I think the cleaner design of the fuji Logo filled with images is more in keeping with the importance of a Golden Anniversary celebration (I think that inside yellow liner might have been intended as gold like the fuji. I'm with the 50 for box art in this particular case. As far as menus, anything that minimizes screen real-estate, so that I have fewer menus to go through. I think I woulg have prefered a plain-text game listing on both to reduce the amount of scrolling/page-flipping. A multicart menu is elegant in it's simplicity. Both of the compilations are trying to hard to be pretty rather than functional. For me that's a design failure. 103 titles should fit easily on 4 screens. 150 on 6. Screw the pretty pictures, I came to find my game and play! Online leader boards are great, but they become less of a bonus if the games are not played, or the servers are no longer supported. But yup, that definitely is a selling feature of the Flashback collection over the 50. Very sad that no 16 bit computer games are featured in either Atari collection. Atari's Arkanoid port is arcade perfect, and Battlezone isn't a port on the ST, it is the actual arcade original emulated. I take marks off of both collections for ignoring the Atari 16-bit computers completely, but especially the 50th collection since that is the very point of the collection. Imagine a C-64 retrospective that ignored the Amiga!! But I haven't heard anyone even mention the missing Atari ST. Licensing fees from 3rd party publishers should not be a justifiable reason for skipping an entire product line. But as a collector of original era hardware and software, Atari 50 is the greater long-term value for your $40 simply by virtue of it being a commemorative collection. Buy a spare and do not remove the shrink wrap. You"ll thank me in 50 years. Sorry I thought I subscribed last time.

Yes. BUY BOTH!! Buuuut, I am very surprised that you or nobody else that has both of these collections didn't mention the fact that the arcade emulation on Flashback Classics is far better than Atari 50. I have them both on switch and Xbox. Atari 50 on the switch and Xbox are both the same. I thought the dull "shimmery" look on the vector games might've just been a switch thing for Atari50 but it does the same thing on Xbox. The console emulations are fine but the arcade emulation on Atari 50 isn't that great. Mainly with the vector titles. Play major havoc on both compilations and you'll see that the atari 50 versions sound is all screwed up. Flashback classics vector games all look bright, sharp and clean. Atari 50s look darker and have this weird "shimmery" effect. Like i said, get both, but if i was forced to make 1 choice, it would be flashback classics. By the way, wait for the switch version of flashback classics to go on sale digitally. It's 15 dollars compared to 10 dollars for each of the flashback classic 1, 2, or 3 games on xbox and playstation.

Well I did mention Warlords looked much better on Flashback Classics. Apparently I should have checked all of the Arcade games though. Totally understandable for choosing Flashback Classics. I would pick each for their own reasons. Thank you for watching!
Where is space invaders and berzerk Atari games at for Xbox platform
Have you tried Atari Mania yet? It’s kinda weird and fun.

@@Rage-td9wv Then a review you shall get! Might be a little bit though, have some other stuff I'm currently working on but it's being added to the list.
Atari50 was $29.99 during Black Friday - Cyber Monday. I'm sure it'll go down to $29.99 MSRP eventually. Also the T rating on Atari50 is due to the interviews. One of them discusses the drug use at Atari in the old days.
The reason why Atari 50 is rated T is because in the interviews they sometimes say words like s**t and f**k

Yeah I didn't realize that until later lol
i feel like flashback classics is like owning all the main albums of a band, while atari 50 is the greatest hits album

Hmm 🤔 never thought of it that way..
You can't compare it to the Atari Throwback console, however, as they are 2 completely different things. This is a museum and a celebration of video gaming history. And they have Swordquest Airworld. I wouldn't give up my Atari 2600 throwback console, nor my Atari 2600 emmulator and roms. I have basically every Atari 2600 game ever made. This Atari 50 collection has many other things including Arcade emmulation games. It is also a nice smooth platform to play the games on.
Last cash grab is a compilation of both for 50
I have the flashbacks 1,2 and 3, as well as atari 50 on the xbox sereis x. I prefer the flashbacks better.

Yeah, I think 50 is worth getting if you want the different systems and reimagined games, otherwise it's flashback for the 2600 and arcade games for the win. Thank you for watching!

@@BAZFANSHOTHITSClassicTunes Yeah me too. I have a little Atari shrine sort of in the corner of my room with the CRT TV. That's pretty much just for the 2600 and my VCR. And thank you so much for the sub!
Drug references in the interviews!
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you weren't the first to unlock them. I know I had them unlocked on launch day as did many others. The only one that's tricky to figure out is Quadratank and the instructions were posted on the Steam forums along with the other 4.

Congrats! I meant the first to do it on the internet though. I didn't know about the Steam forum but hey, I was the first to do it on video at least.
I think the art for Atari 50 is better as more appropriate for this situation.

Yeah I can agree with that. That one like I mentioned is personal preference, but I like both.
