    The music video in my opinion is about sexual assault in the Japanese school system. Very often teachers will sexually assault a student and blame it on their “bad behavior”. The dancing girls are meant to represent the “bad behavior” being a distraction to the problem at hand. Notice whenever you watch the video you mainly pay attention to the girls dancing while the problem is in the background

    I feel like it's not mockery towards her rather it's towards the teacher, she doesn't directly touch/motion towards the girl it's more towards the man. I think they're the victims as well, I don't know directly what they're saying but the part where she's punching the other girl in the stomach kinda hints at the man abused them and they either grew up, killed themselves or he beat them into submission to the point where they were scared to leave him

  • @kennyxle2550

    @kennyxle2550

    @@gnat6450 ah no, actually it's not like that at all. it's about a love between teacher and student while the teacher knows it's wrong he still won't give up the girl, however the girl wants to give up. the song is talking about how the love like this is both wrong and right and how the girl is suffering from it, because she wants to make excuses such as being naive but in the end even she knows it's wrong so she keeps on blaming the teacher for clearly being the adult in the relationship. and it was made clear the teacher never forced himself on her other than not giving up on loving her.

    Wrong! In Japan often female student victims are blamed and are told to stay quiet since it’s there own fault for getting gr**med since they were “misbehaving” so the girls dancing are showing that even do there misbehaving the teacher isn’t doing anything to them.

    My interpretation of Koi Geba: I think Koi Geba's initial message of the song is kinda.. mixed? Atarashii Gakko clearly implied in the lyrics that "you're a teacher, so why don't you teach me that what's wrong is wrong? I dont have an idea about what bad things are, I want to learn, I want to be a student". but then the song is like "Revolt" for love. it may be confusing but the music video might give a context In the middle of the video, after the teacher-student couple dated for a while secretly, the girl student tried to escape from him. The teacher, however, goes after her. In the end, it is shown that they're together again. Possibly, the girl's request of "teach me that this is wrong" was never granted, and she ended up falling for the teacher (Even if it is wrong). The lyrics implied that their relationship is all about flowers, fun, beauty, not showing the ugly and wrong parts of it. This is why the girl probably ended up thinking like "Revolt, revolt, Love! revolt!" because she thinks it their love is merely a taboo topic but it is not wrong, so she will fight for it (because no one taught her that it is wrong, when her teacher/the guy was supposed to). It seems like Suzuka keeps trying to warn the student, but seems like she's invisible. So in the end, she fell to the floor (She gave up trying/she's tired?) Could be wrong, but it's fun to think about it

The words I announce, the words from that time Rebel, rebel, rebel, LOVE , revolt! 1. ゲバ(geba) is defined as "(political) violence; violent tactics used by political radicals" but that is a bit long and since the song is about a highschool girl's relationship with a teacher I think rebel/revolt work well instead. 2. A non-hypersexualized girls band... I really hope it grows in popularity. Not only the music sounds good, but it also shows that heck, you don't have to match what is supposedly the most sexually attractive to get on the scene. Tbh, watching hypersexualized bands could end up being sad... No matter if the music matches my tastes, I can't really enjoy it plenty while thinking that these people probably made decisions they would have wished to not take, only for popularity, and now they are stuck with that...

At the end, I don't really want this to be like that, and that to be like this, I probably just enjoy "eating spinach after 1 week of spaghetti", and vice versa... But then, if I I know spinach were coming from an illegal slave industry, I'd think about that before feeding my need of change... Though as you say, I admit I didn't really think about what if they were forced as well to match that style, and I'll keep that in mind... I was more about "Great, they don't have to force themselves to act like someones who're 'perfect', which would quite probably not match what they truly are, and likely result into mental issues" But at the end, being forced to be "just what you normaly are" instead of an holy idol still sounds more acceptable to them... Well... in fact, popularity amplifies the fear to be hated, or even abandoned (well I guess, I never went viral lol), so maybe the artists could end up forcing themselves against their own will... That's another story then...

    I love the theories about the girls being ghost, past victims, and others so i’d like to share mine. I feel as though instead of helping the girl get away, they’re terrorizing the teacher with guilt, they are his emotions. The girl with the glasses obviously being the guilt, the short haired girl is the emptiness he feels without her, the long haired girl is his love for the student, the girl in the ponytail is his lust. Seeing the girl with glasses and the long haired one punch each other is signaling to the guy he feels guilty knowing what he’s done, yet his “love” hits back, but not as hard. In one of the elevator scenes the lead places her hand on his shoulder, almost as if he has a secret; Their love is wrong. and they only appear in/when they have been to that place, leaving memories. and when she has her hands in a heart and likes them, its giving the impression of he “tainted” her or her heart. Very lovely video and song, I love it lots and really had fun with this theory

    i was thinking similarly! But i think the girl with long hair could be the lust since the glasses girl is punching the long hair girl around 3:05 ish and when the LHG punches back they all start dancing (symbolizing the love is back again even though the guilt almost "knocked them down") and the teacher hugs the girl (might just be me but that hug was a lust hug and not a loving hug, can't explain but it just is) also, the love in the relationship seems to be fading before the punch scene, especially bc GG licked the heart (symbolizing lust) and started freaking out (the guilt for the lust) edit: i just looked it up and the kanji on the blackboard means "supplementary lessons" (hoshuu)

    (I’m Japanese) i found out the lyrics writer is Temma Matsunaga from the Japanese band Urbangarde! My best favorite!! Temma Matsunaga is one of the best contemporary poet in Japan, and he writes poems and lyrics by all kinds of Japanese subculture reference, and it’s still beautifully rhymed and deep. Majority of Matsunaga’s work is about Japanese teenage girl (Shōjo 少女)’s sensitivity in her adolescence. He wrote several songs about Japanese school girl who’s in love with her teacher. I’ll write down my opinion on lyrics as Temma Matsunaga fan’s perspective: I’ve always thought the title Koi Geba (恋ゲバ) came from the word Zeni Geba (銭ゲバ) which means the person who’s obsessed with money. (Zeni Geba 銭ゲバ is coinage made by the Japanese subculture manga artist George Akiyama.) So I think Koi Geba means the person who’s obsessed with love. (Koi=恋, means love, romantic relationship, or Eros) As other comments explain, Geba ゲバ is short for German word Gewalt ゲバルト. It’s the word used for left winger’s protest movement in the 1960s Japan, which Japanese left wingers fought against injustice of authority in the university and the government. Matsunaga often use Japanese left wingers cultural reference on his music, so I’m sure he meant the revolt against/of love in this song. Matsunaga also likes to play words that sound like English, so I think he implied “give up this love” too. Matsunaga’s band Urbangarde has great lyrics and musical sense too, so check it out if anyone likes this song’s lyrics. Urbangarde and AG collaborated on the song Shojo Gannen (少女元年), too.

He might have forced her to get an abortion or some way to get rid of the baby so that no one would find out and he wouldn't lose his job, bc its illegal yknow. I heard a theory about this specific song a while ago that the dancing girls were trying to warn the girl falling in love with the teacher. It was theorized that they were basically his former victims and had been manipulated by him, so they were desperately trying to protect her throughout the music vid. I really like this theory because it adds a whole other layer to the video and everything reads differently (ex: when the girl tries to pull away from the teacher and run but he chases her down, when lead singer appears more frantic in the elevator towards the end ). Altogether one of my favorite theories I’ve heard for a general song :)) edit: look at the replies!! user ifuckedurmom (lol) pretty much summed it up

    i know a little japanese, so for any non japanese speakers, this song is indeed about teacher/student relationships. from the japanese that i do know, it’s about the student and other past victims, want to know why this relationship is so forbidden. almost in a mocking tone like they already know. References to authors are also here, such as Ryūnosuke Akutagawa and Sōseki Natsume; Implying the teachers specializes in literature/humanities (credits to Idil A for this) please correct me if im wrong, i’ve been taking a break from studying japanese cause i wanna work on german and (maybe) scots. その時でさえ、日本語は本当に美しい言語だ、この歌も好きだ!

    Here is the translation of the song to English: Song Name: Love Rebel by ATARASHII GAKKO! Lyrics: If forbidden things, are forbidden, oh why won't you teach me?1 I wanna study, I do, I do, just a schoolgirl Bad things, those bad things, I still haven't learnt you know Let me study, you are, you are, the teacher Rebel, revolt, love is the storm of spring Rebel, revolt, the rain wets the asphalt Rebel, revolt, the red flowers blooming The words I announce, the words from that time Rebel, rebel, rebel, LOVE , revolt Even though I wrote Dazai and Ango, why doesn't it work for me? Literature, I wanna, a flower schoolgirl Akutagawa and Sōseki, everybody adored them Philosophical, you are, so melancholy, oh teacher Rebel, revolt, love is the summer's storm Rebel, revolt, the wind shaking the barricade Rebel, revolt, the dynamite is burning Do we live and fall? Or do we fall and live? Rebel, rebel, rebel, LOVE, revolt Rebel, revolt, love is the storm of spring Rebel, revolt, the storm of a blue spring day Rebel, revolt, the me from that blueish spring If we confess our love, would it be a crime? The words I announce, the words from that time Rebel, rebel, rebel, LOVE , revolt!
