After finally getting atago b in 2024 the low range slow turrets and slow reload. I actually prefer suzuya and or mogami. The range and reload and turrets are so rough. I was excited that i got it but after playing it 15 times its a port queen. I will say its nice finally getting to use atago on atago lol super high fire chance. I think your right being aggressive definitely gets better results

I love their designs compared to other Japanese cruisers but Atago in general is my favorite from the class, has been since i first started learning about naval history. Also I love your videos. I’ve had Atago for a while and there’s 2 things I think it needs. Higher velocity on the guns to make longer range shots more consistent and more engine power to conserve speed on turns. The shells are too floaty to consistently hit cruisers and destroyers past 16km unless they are being super predictable. And Atago has such good maneuverability and speed but since it bleeds so much in turns I feel as if I’m always sailing below 30kts compared to the 35+ she can easily do.

Atago along with Prinz Eugen really need a buff, we got really good cruisers at tier 7 now and poor old Atago feels like a lesser Mogami, i think it should get superheals since heals are its selling point on PC, but getting a good game on this one feels way better than in a Suzuya for exemple

would love to see Maya next lol . Atago is still great imo but i enjoyed mogami more for sure. i think lots of the old ships need some tweaks. sometimes cruiser stats don't make sense compared to others .

I would love for Atago to get a buff. This is 1 of my most played ships. I was lucky enough to get the black version so I have a Rutter build on the black one a prop mod on the other. Another good thing about Atago it has 41mm deck armor which helps to bounce shells as your dodging shots.

That’s just a wierd statement. It’s like saying water is better than gasoline when thirsty, after someone said they don’t care much for water among drinks. Everyone knows T7 premiums are the supreme credits earners. Atago is a T7 premium ship available for GXP. Any evaluation of her has to be in comparison to other T7 premium ships available for GXP, not with ships of completely different tiers or with none premiums. Or the evaluation is pointless.🤷‍♂️

Nice match. I havent liked this boat since I got it. I find that only the torp angles are an advantage. Everything else is beat by Mogami or Suzuya. Can you do Kutuzov eventually? I don't have it but it seems to be HIGHLY regarded by WeeGee as it's considered a super prize in santa crates.

Wouldn't object to a buff, but I think the ship still holds up pretty well--for a GXP ship. I'd be more inclined to complain about the state of Prinz Eugen than this ship. Now if you're just looking for something to spend GXP on there are many better options at this tier, but the ship itself still performs well for a T7 8" gun cruiser. I'd look at Azuma next, just to compare and contrast the premiere IJN heavy cruiser of WW2 with the might-have-been super heavy cruiser that never was--and one of the best GXP investments in the game presently.

I still enjoy atago. Yes pitch forks in hand LOL. Good video as always. However with the smaller maps of legends, its not as powerful and annoying as on pc. its harder to break away, reposition, then jab back from another area. Great video as always. I'm still waiting to hear your thoughts on the winter update. Personally Im disappointed, though not surprised, that wg is likely locking level 4-5 crates behind chance to get them. I HATE DETEST DESPISE the crate nonsense. Just let me buy the ships I want should I want. Im also disappointed they gave us so few details, just teasing hints with more details in articles to come. The "patch notes" really was only 25% complete.

I'm looking forward to the reviews on her. TBH Im hoping for some dubs to silver discount, global xp converting discount and hopefully the return of some commanders that I dont have yet. Im still waiting more detailed patch notes hoping that something will curb my lackluster meh feel about this update. If not then Ill enjoy petro which i suffered through riga for then used brawl to grind through several bb's and dd's

My first ever kill with the Kii was on an Atago. She was fully broadsided, but had at least 95% health left, yet I devstriked👌 I'm interested in a cruiser and/or battleship that can tank, deal dmg and brawl/fun. Can u do a vid on a ship(s) that can do that?

Alas, she has definitely been power crept. That reload is just toooooo loooong these days. Com’on WG, show the ol’ girl some love and give her a much needed buff.

I seem to struggle mightily with Atago. I play it fairly frequently because I want to like it, but I find the Suzuya to be a much better T7 GXP cruiser. Of course, I feel like it could just be a skill issue with me because, admittedly I am not the best Cruiser player in the world.

The ship i have the most battles in... first off build.. Al atago is most viable BUT We have some diferences 1-i use beyond range 2-arsonist 3-fortified (to negate arsonists base trait a bit) 4-fixated 5-refill station Insp- Mikawa Muller Upgrades- Turret traverse Propulsion Concealment Range Reload-14.9sec out to 17km before beyond 10.0km detectability which matches my torpedos So one thing i think importsnt you missed is how low the ship sits in the water AND how it has an arnored deck below the torpedo deck which if you are sailing and use correctly bouces shells which normally would dev strike you. (Laughs at Kansas who called me a hacker) For positioning i recommend not opening as soon as you can and rather moving to about 11.5 or 12 km or when you are spotted to open up. Or alternatively do what i do where i softly put my detectability about to the edge my destroyers giving support. Always be on the move as well as dont be afraid to turn in and disenguage you have the concealment advantage, use it. Do i think this ship needs a buff? I got mixed feelings personally, what this ship does better than the other IJN cruisers to me is its ability to hold the weak flank back, what it lacks in dpm it makes for in being a nuisance. I think the buff to keep this ship relevant is to increase its he alpha and call it a day. Im no hipper but i got 600 sokething battles under me with a 60 percent win rate as a mainly solo

@DerkaGames the reason they reinforced that and lifted it off the main hull funny enough had a real reason, from experiencing some losses to torpedos exploding the designer who's name escapes me designed if the torpedoes were to detonate up and out I might be a *little* knowledgeable about the takao class

I used to Play Atago alot even with My AL Atago commander. however the rise of Mainz is just so good nothing can compare at Tier and class. In conclusion, I think all around 203MM guns have just lost all ability to do what they need to do. With the Rise of heavy armored BB 203s are kinda obsolete. you might as well just fire spam because thats where the meta is.

A better f2p build imo is yamamoto with double fire, velacious, fixated, reffil station with membelli and mikawa as inspiration. -Turret traverse mod -prop mod -camo mod -range mod Maximum stats for this are 13.5s reload, 24s turret traverse, and 16.9km range, 22% fire chance, 37 knot speed. Very usable.

I almost forgot to weigh in on the Atago. She may be a victim of game progress with other cruisers that came after. I acquired Atago commander before Suzuya was introduced as a campaign ship and long before any buffs were applied to Mogami, so Atago was well-regarded at that time, if memory serves me well. It's a premium ship, so there is a chance that Wargaming may give Atago a reload buff... Here's a thought...what if that buff was a 1-1.5 reduction on that reload WITH....2 reload boosters? What say you Derka?

Atago I set up with Mikawa and rudder…42 knots…2.2 second rudder. High risk, for sure. Suzuya has the AL Atago build…basically, a flamethrower that almost goes brrrrtttt…. What’s not to love?

Atago is at its best when it is played like a 10km concealment DD with 10km torps. Use Yamamoto at 16/2 for 5% AP penetration Rigerwald style, Scott for grouping, and Mikawa for detection, Main bettery for Turret traverse,Prop mod to juke, Concealment mod to get your detectability down to 10.1k, and Gun Fire control V2 for range & dispersion. The Result? You get an Assassin with 10k detectability with 10k torps and dispense murder fish like a DD, and then a few secs later unleash AP or HE and hit hard. This configuration gives me 17km range, 14.6 reload, 24.2 sec turret traverse and solid accuracy. That's Anchorage level fast and faster then an Amalfi or Atago @ 16 seconds. The ship can wipe the floor with most cruisers that think they can HE spam you. She can eat Mogami's, Azuma's, and most BB's for breakfast. Unload torps undetected, wait, and pounce with a salvo that hits like an Azuma. Playing her like an aggressive 10km DD with 10km detection & 10km torps is quite rewarding.

This ship definitely needs a buff. Considering that the Atago is simply a worse Mogami-Version and the Mogami has been buffed in the last patch. The Atago should be adjusted accordingly. Compared to the other free xp cruisers on the level, it is now a real cucumber. I will no longer play it bevor she becoms a buff.

I would like to see a ship I very rarely see used, the Öland. I think it's a great ship with great carry potential for the tier, and is extremely underrated. If you care at all, the build I'd recommend is Conrad Helfrich with Burn It Down XXL, Look At Me Now, Velocious, Stand Or Fall, and Fully Packed. Don't knock it before you try it and keep up the graet videos 🫡

can anyone recommend me the best tier7 premium cruiser? i have atago and 750K global exp now. Should i go for Prince Eugene or Suzuya? or should i just go for Yudachi instead?

Suzuya, Kutosov, and Azuma are all at tier 7 for the same amount of GXP, all very good. Have videos of all those ships on my channel, look em up

@@DerkaGames It's really simple. I find suzy and mogami playstyle boring. Atago gives room for more aggressive and fun play.

Atago just needs a significant reload buff to be relevant again. She's completely different to the other Japanese cruisers and used to be fun to push with. She doesn't have the DPM to survive pushing at present and so her USP is totally compromised.

​ @Wilsontripplets With forward facing torpedoes and a fast rudder, Atago is best as an aggressive, pushing cruiser, but she no longer has the DPM/ survivability to survive in that role.

If you havent tried takao as a commander for this ship personality i feel like she makes atago a different ship.

@@DerkaGames Takeo buffs the turrets in slot 2.so you can keep the range in slot one.i use full concealment for inspirations.for me I felt like atago was awful at holding a flank.but this build allows me to get to a flank and hold it at long range and be very annoying at it lol

I onmy play pc, not console. Atago is among the oldest premiums in the game and still stands at the pinnacle of balance. Shes a very high risk/high reward ship. Fast, excellent conceal, great armor for kiting. Misplay and youll explode. She represented near perfect balance. Ill take her over mogami anyday. Plus atago can overmatch light cruiser armor, mogami cannot

I’ve had Atago for a long time and to be honest it’s a ship (in my opinion) that can no longer compete. Its slow reload is a travesty. There are way too many Tier VII cruisers that are superior. It’s a shame, it’s a beautiful ship.

Is that on console? If so, that is only with a full range build (giving up everything else) AND with the legendary perk “Refill Station” active, which means you only have that range as long as a teammate is within 3,5 km of you (assuming your commander is 16/4, otherwise they have to be even closer). Having 19km+ range on Atago is largely pointless anyway.

Friesland is a boat to get for fun. It’s a machine gun and deadly to boot. Luoyang is a nasty one with its torpedos and smoke/sonar combo. And monarch has some merit after its buff.
