It's always great when the media talks about things they know NOTHING about. That wasn't a "dud" missile that hit first. That is the EMPTY BODY of the ATACMS missile hitting the dirt after deploying all of those cluster munitions. The missile is traveling at Mach 3+, and if the strike was only 80km behind the front lines, it would also still have extra fuel from the rocket motor left inside, so even the empty body hits the ground with enough explosive force to kick up all of that dirt. The body of the missile pops open at whatever height is set before launch to spread those little cluster munitions out over a specifically set area. So that IS NOT a "dud". It's just the empty ATACMS missile body hitting the ground BEFORE all of the deployed cluster munitions hit the ground...which is what you see right after the impact from the empty missile body.

That it appeared to hit nothing worthwhile and there were no casualties? Looks like it came down in some random fields, probably after being shot down or sent off course with EW. Seriously, it's missed the base (visible top center of the picture near the target reticle) by about 1kilometer.

Doesn't matter how many troops where unalived in this attack. The psychological effect might be much higher on Russian troops. They can't feel safe so far away from the front line. So in future, everything has to move even further back from the front line and it will take even more ressources of Russia to move manpower and equipement to the front line.
