At the Drive-In live 11/25/1998 - Tempe Bowl, Tempe, AZ

Музыка

Rare old footage of At the Drive-In from their 1998 tour with Murder City Devils.
This show was held at Tempe Bowl, a now defunct bowling alley in Tempe, AZ. Such a cool place to see shows back in the day. This was probably my favorite time ever seeing ATDI. They had to cut their set short because Cedric was really sick, as you'll hear him mention a few times.
Sorry the footage is a little dark at times and the vocals aren't easy to hear in the heavier songs(the PA wasn't great, it was a bowling alley for Pete's sake lol).
Set List:
1) Alpha Centauri
2) Chanbara
3) Hulahoop Wounds
4) Lopsided
5) A Devil Among the Tailors
6) Initiation
7) Farenheit
#atthedrivein #atdi #punk #hardcore

Watching this its kinda easy to see how they imploded. I saw them on the other side of the world in Australia like a year later with a crowd about 40x this size. Going from nothing to everything must be a massive head fuck. So glad i got to see them. And massive thanks to the filmer.

Haha I know, it's wild seeing Jim get so into it! I was just a teen at the time and I was so obsessed with these guys, I was so excited to be able to get so close to them. And now to have this footage up so close in such an intimate setting all these years later after they blew up is really fun.

Wow this is just as good as the classroom and bowling alley. Such a under rated band. This is absolutely a piece of history.

I have been listening to ATDI since their first album... never saw this performances in video... although I knew about them. Its a privilege to see this now. You can obviously see they wanted to tale over the world... & they made it, that energy is what is missing in modern bands.

I really respect that Cedric was sick and still put so much energy into the performance because the whole group was more important than just one person.

Jim Ward is the heart of ATDI, and their founder. Reunion without him makes no sense at all. That's why the band ended up like that.

Shit gets complicated, it's sort of liking see your best friend in a cute relationship with someone only to find out they hate and can't stand each other years later. You'd wonder how they ended up like that.

There is nothing complicated.Jim and Cedric made ATDI and Jim was a very important member of the band from the beginning until Relationship of Command as an author and in my opinion a much more important guitarist than Omar. At the concerts he often kept things from falling apart. I'm a guitarist and I know what I'm talking about. It's very hard to keep a band together when Omar is on drugs at 90% of time and completely out of tune and make demage and bad noise to rest of the band. Sound man often put Omar volume to zero- But Cedic fell in love with Omar. And in 2016, when the Reunion ATDI was announced, the afro twins told Jim that he would not participate as author in the new album because Ego maniac Omar used to work like that in the Mars Volta and that money should be taken while it is still possible - and Jim always had problems with such an approach and always said that as soon as money enters the band as the main reason, he leaves the band. And of course after such an O&C statement he left ATDI- BUT again a month before the tour!! NOT as Cedric lied - the day before the tour! (I heard all this in the only interview in which Jim talked about 2016.) So the last album sucks hard. No Jim's right punk hand, no his open chords.no Punk screams that were so important to ATDI-Everyone knows: Cut away, Cut away-it's Jim Ward .No Jim Word's song's.No Punk is simple.Only Omar's egomaniac trip in the studio and some of Cedic's good moments, but very rare. To me, In • ter a • li • a is by far the worst album from ATDI. And of course they fell apart, from the tour they took the money-(Ofcourse Omar and Cedric more then rest of the band?!) goal stretched out, just how? They should be ashamed. Jim Ward recorded two much better albums during that period. And he remained a good man - which is much more important. And Jim in everything, though without money in his pocket, remained fair and remained a man of his word.

@@vidukadavor I agree. I listened to a podcast for the new TMV album and Cedric and Omar literally rewrote the history of the first break up. Their new claim is that they wanted to take a break, but the other three didn’t so they left the band. Problem is Cedric said shortly after that they wanted to do better stuff and the other three were holding them back. They also immediately started touring with DeFacto then TMV without a single break between. Jim’s never talked shit and kept his explanations minimal.
