AT&T Enhanced Push To Talk: A Guided Tour | Pocketnow
Back when voice communication was still king, phone calls weren't the only game in town. Some carriers offered a service called "push-to-talk" - a two-way radio, or walkie-talkie-like solution, for when a phone call just wouldn't do.
In America, most carriers found little traction with PTT. The iDEN-based carrier Nextel now part of Sprint Nextel saw success for a few years offering dispatch service to its customers, at one time numbering around 20 million people. These days, that number has shrunk to below 5 million, but other carriers are still trying to pick the Nextel carcass clean. The most dedicated PTT competitor these days is the nation's second-largest, AT&T.
Recently, AT&T rebooted its own PTT offering for North America, switching to an app-based service, adding interoperability and other features, and broadening its device selection. Thanks to our friends at the carrier, we've secured some handsets to check it out. Does the new "Enhanced PTT" offer a compelling experience? Should the millions of Sprint subscribers about to be kicked off the old iDEN network consider it a viable alternative? What's the big deal about push-to-talk anyway? For the answers to these questions and more, check out our guided video tour above.

I really really like push-to-talk. I think all phones, should have this feature. Hell!... even the Apple watch has it now. Which is pretty cool. I use to have a Nextel back in the day. The cellphone service sucked. However, that push-to-talk, was great. It was made to "Get Things Done!" "Period!" The older I get, the less I care about texting. Just tell me, what the hell do ya' want, for Christ's sake!"
I think its amazing how many peeps have no clue what true PTT is and how valuable it can be for business... For one, it gets around most handsfree laws!

How end of the daybit will be a ticker it's a phone device
Tony Stark knows how to make a good intro.
insightful video. Always wondered what push-to-talk was for. never used it. I see great ideas for an offgrid solution using an android UI on real walkie-talkies...
Great Review! This service is great - I have been using it since AT&T launched it. Compared to Voxer, which is NOT free anymore and frequently goes down, and other downloadable free PTT apps, which are all lackluster in my opinion, AT&T's service is the best on the market.

JustAsk70 Thanks! I was wondering if Voxer was still worth it
For basic push to talk, I use voxer. I have been researching this lately
it's like a walkie talkie for phones ^^.. this is actually smart
There is more to it than an over-the-top walkie talkie app. I have found it very reliable and the presence feature is cool. Bottom line is, if you have a business, there is no faster, easier way to speak to employees that are out in the field.
Looking sharp ;-)
You seem like a very educated person.
ATT Enhanced Push to Talk is available on the iphone 5 and 4s. It also works over Wifi so it you don't have cellular coverage but have Wifi like in businesses with multiple buildings you are still covered.
totally agree with you
Seems to me like a slightly revised and somewhat upgraded version of the simulated ptt that they tried to make happen during the att/Cingular merger a while back
this is very used in Mexico from Nextel
Does it still use your data or does it not go against your data allowance ?
I miss having a nextel walky talky phone, is like have radio repeaters everywhere and a 800mhz ht :3

yea the PTB couldn't track who you was with Nextel, thus dismantling the system, now they are attempting to do the same with tracking mechs in place, hence this video
What's the model of that microphone you are using for recording its really clear!
so far i've been unimpressed, ptt always goes down atleast once a day and it wont turn its self back on until you notice your ptt is disconnect and restart it.. get it together att
Any chance I can program it to listen to dispatch comms
There’s iOS and android PTT Zello app now ... easy and good features ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This is not new reamber Nextel chirp? I actually liked it it worked everywhere, and you could talk to a group of people fast, send location, things like that.
It only works on the Rugby 3 ATT's old PTT worked on the Rugby 2- it works on the iphone 5 and 4s
Hi I'm thinking about buying a few Rugby2's, could you please do another demo of the PTT feature on the Rugby2?
Did u do a review on that phone?
Never heard of that since i'm outside the US but it seem SO useless to me... Anyway, keep it coming, like your reviews!
I've got a question. There're a lot of "push-to-talk" apps on the android market, for example, WeChat. So any smartphone can use those apps which they are updated more regularly. So why bother using the AT&T push-to-talk? :D
Chatmap is good as well
Would you rely on Voxer with your business?
so its a walkie-talkie app?
I'll stick with Voxer :) If you missed something they say your can just repay the voice message without asking them to repeat it. Oh...and it's free!
If it were free as an added feature to compete against other carries than yes but for $6 a month i think not.
can I reassign the PTT button?
i think Zello is A LOT better you can use the app in Android, iOS, Blackberry and a pc (sorry if i mistake when writing, don't speak english so good)
So you can't be in another country ?
Zello is also
Because companies don't want to give their employees a phone for they know it is like giving them a noose.
can I be your friend to test the ePTT service?
He looks like Tony Stark but he talks like Sean Connery..
Swipe first. It the screen is locked.
Can you use the PTT button when using WeChat?

I use TKL and its free
Voxer, ChatON
Boost Mobile...aka Chirp Phone
#MrMobile
Yeah, nobody much uses it now days. Yummy still ;)
this ole technology was cool in its day but i consider this a DESPERATE attempt by AT&T to have something unique that verizon doesnt in order to drum up new business clients... this isnt gonna go far IMHO...
Voxer
Lame! Voxer is way better plus everyone is on it and I could always hear back what they said to me on it in case I missed it the first time
womp womp... lol
Hardware buttons on 4.0+? Absolutely disgusting.
@mykol harper holy crap u eez failzorx
*Makes comment about Micheal Fisher looking like Iron Man* *Gets top comment*
Fuck att i rather havr tkl which i use for work or use sprints ptt
viber for android is way better :D...
Not worth the five dollars IMO.
lmao at creating a phone, what Voxer can already do... FAIL!!!
Why the fuck do people still do this.
i use to hate people being loud as hell with these things. now theyre back....crap
The phone ur using is so ugly
to die
I'd rather use my real CB radio and it's free
Boring
Nobody wants to help you sit in a box with egg foam, haha. poor baby. So this saves you money instead of making a real phone call, ok. Maybe good for a business but the rest of us, text messaging. Who do you really want to talk to, most dont even use there cel phone for real calls. Why they did away with text pagers when thats all most of us do.
