At 80, Roger Waters Finally Reveals How Pink Floyd Came To An End. The Truth Will Shock You

Ойын-сауық

From the perspective of this video, you would think that Roger Waters was Pink Floyd. You Don't even mention the fact that David Gilmour's "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" outsold anything Waters did outside of the band. Pink Floyd's popularity isn't encapsulated solely on Waters lyrics. You don't mention the extreme talent that is David Gilmour and the rest of the band. David Gilmour is a legendary Guitarist. Probably the best song on the Wall "Comfortably Numb" was written by both Water's and Gilmour. This Video is basically a fluff piece for Water's.

Well if you had to do an exact pie on percentage of contributions and who did what and narrow it down to an exact percentage, Roger would be the hands down winner, noone doubts Gilmours importance in Floyd, but with out Roger there is no Darkside of the Moon , no Wish you were Here , no Animals and no The Wall. Now let's take those albums out of existence, lets look at what we have , we have Pink Floyd being a late 60s one hit wonder Syd Barret band and a non existence in Rock n Roll cause without the Darside Floyd doesn't have the best album of all time and on a grand scale noone knew Pink Floyd before Darkside and the other three huge ones after , noone gave a shit about PinkFloyd and guess who's brain they came out of . Yep Roger Waters . Case closed.

@@micjoseph6250 Why does that not translate into his solo work. "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" outsold everything Waters did solo. Writing the lyrics of the majority of albums is not the be all end all of a band. Would you have me believe the real talent of Van Halen was in its various front men? How about Led Zeppelin. Pink Floyd didn't really take off until David Gilmour joined the band.

I just get tired when some people believe that Waters is the Alpha and Omega, please. He wrote most of the Wall and all of the Final Cut but only because at that time he was no longer a team player he was a bully. Dark Side and Wish you were here was a group effort. Making a song isn't just about lyrics you still have to write the music. In 88 I saw Pink Floyd for the first time, did I wish that Waters was there sure, but if given a choice between seeing three members of the band or just Waters, I would still choose the three members.

Talk of perspective then compare a new record by "PINK FLOYD" a well established and worshiped band to a relatively unknown (who is Roger Waters unless you are already a Pink Floyd fan) and maybe you would have an answer. It could be argued that A Momentary Lapse of Reason without the Pink Floyd banner and without the Pink Floyd marketing would have disappeared into obscurity. Do not get me wrong I am a huge fan of Pink Floyd but will state for the record I was very upset when Roger left but soon realised that instead of one amazing band it gave two separate but equally talented entities both providing music for my soul. What I cannot stand are the so called fans who have to try and divide the talents and provide their expert opinions as to who is better than who. The only people who know the true facts are the ones who were present at the time. Other than that it is all hearsay and opinions which in general should be kept to yourself unless asked for.

There is no doubt in my mind, after observing Roger Waters interacting with interviewers and after listening to his painfully deficient monologues, that he is currently on the verge of advanced level Alzheimers! Which explains his rage attacks and depression, which are both classic symptoms and which Roger is blaming on Israels actions. There are so many inaccuracies here. FIrst, it was no "Barret's out and Gilmour's in". For several months, PF became a 5-piece band, woth both Barret and Gilmout on board, and they even recorded a single with that 5-piece band setup (I think it was "Apples and Oranges", but I am not totally sure). According to RW, and later confirmed by Mason and Gilmour, the decision to remove Barret from the band was not made in a "meeting with his managers", but rather spontaneously by the band members. They were going to the rehearsal studios when someone (no one was identified) said samothing like "what if we don't go for Syd?". And that was it. By then, Barret was almost completely inoperative.

When Roger Waters redid his “Spoken Version” of DSOTM, and made that “Let's get rid of all this 'we' crap” statement, this let us all know that his cheese had slid off his cracker. First, he got rid of Richard Wright during The Wall and then got rid of David Gilmour and Nick Mason when he did his spoken version of DSOTM. He finally got what he wanted by destroying an absolutely perfect piece of wonderfulness. It took all 4 of them to do what had been done with Meddle, DSOTM, WYWH, Animals, and parts of The Wall. And completely derailed the train with The Final Cut. I like Pro’s & Cons and Amused To Death. I like David Gilmour’s solo work as well. The first 2 solo albums are good. His 3rd, On An Island is almost perfect. At that time, David Gilmour is like a bottle of wine… it got better with age. In 1994, I saw Pink Floyd 14 times. 12 in the USA and twice in London. In 2006, I went to see David Gilmour in Chicago. Once in London and the third in Gdańsk. Having David Crosby and Graham Nash on the album and tour was a real stroke of genius. I saw Roger Waters The Wall live. Only once in Cleveland in 2010. As my wife were going in, someone approached us and handed us literature to support Palestine and anti Israel literature. When I told him that we were not interested. He started yelling at us and forced the paper work into my wife’s hand. A police officer was near by and saw what happened and arrested him. I noticed many others handing out this paperwork and asked the officer what was going on and he said that they were hired by the tour to distribute this stuff. This incident really left a bad taste in our mouths and affected our whole experience. We sold our future Roger Waters The Wall live tickets for Columbus and Philly. My favorite song of all time is Echoes. This song helped me as I was going through some really rough times when I was growing up. This album, Meddle, was the springboard they needed and helped launched them all. It was a collaboration that needed all 4 of them. But Roger Waters has lied to himself for so long, he actually believes that is was either all him or most of him and now wants all the credit and is now trying to rewrite history by lying to all of us. In 2008, my mom called me to tell me Richard Wright had passed away. Right then I knew I would never hear Echoes live again. I was blessed that I saw their last performance of Echoes in Gdańsk. I hope you all have a great day. Thank you.

Roger Waters is one lucky S.O.B. and he isn't more than that. In Syd Barrett's Pink Floyd, he was the bass player. When Barrett was gone he stepped up and saved the day (with not-a-little help from Blackhill enterprises) but that didn't mean he suddenly grew great talent - he's an indifferent writer/musician that wouldn't have got anywhere without Barrett. David Gilmour immediately added his exceptional guitar playing but the restrictions (and therefore the discontent) were written in and while Gilmour's influence was still shackled, Pink Floyd were just a band on the UK college circuit along with the rest of such bands. No one with an ounce of sense in their heads is going to say that "Meddle" was as influential/successful as "Dark side of the Moon". The sales of Meddle today are completely dependent upon the later success of "Dark Side" and "Wish you were here" and Meddle is principally the work of an insistent Waters adding riff-driven "filler", a re-run of "Careful with that axe Eugene" - a lucky B-side. Gilmour began to unstoppably register and shine with "Atom Heart Mother" and it owed a great deal to Ron Geeson making that "space". Then Pink Floyd finally began to detach from the "one hit wonders" of "See Emily Play" and a bunch of singles that did nothing and become a band that could make a decent mainstream album. They still had some way to go but Gilmour 's genie was out of the bottle and his name was now synonymous with "Pink Floyd" in a way that Waters had never been despite the singles. Waters is all gob - he's still the "Bass player" that thinks he's the entire architect of his success without Barrett, Gilmour, the distinctive-and-immaculate Rick Wright and the astute-and-connected management that could procure projects such as the on-the-quick "More", Zabriskie Point and Pompeii. He and Mason were always the most replaceable parts of the band no matter what the rest of the personnel has been. The technical realities were that Waters understood the bass and composition in terms of rhythm rather than syncopated beat - workmanlike and a bit limited. His Avant Garde contributions were in his lyrics rather than his music. He deserves credit and every bit of his success for "Saucerful of Secrets" and a free concert in London to keep things going during a crisis but............... musically? It's more a matter of character - his forceful personality drove Gilmour to seek outside of his blues-based playing which struggled for a time with integrating these scales into Water's typical melodic resolutions. Without this, Pink Floyd would have almost certainly disappeared down the same oubliette as Mick Abraham's Blodwyn Pig and Juicy Lucy. The most musically educated of the band was Rick Wright - who had always managed this seamlessly. "Set the controls...etc"......It's not exactly "Richter Scale" stuff - is it?

He recently did a concert on behalf of Palestine/Hamas. Cat Stevens was performing as well. Cat Stevens has openly stated that the fatwa on Salman Rushdie should still be carried out. All and all it makes me wonder about Roger The Todger and his motivations. He has been a part of a once great band that recorded a couple of remarkable albums. I even bought all the solo ones as they came out, except for the "Is this the way....". But they don't stand up to very much these days. A few good tracks, but a very limited audience. I saw the Pros & Cons tour with Clapton on board. They did two or three old Floyd tracks (possibly from the Syd Barrett days - Eg. 'If I was A Swan'). But all and all it was pretty forgettable. I think he is a bit of a knob-jockey in real life. Still, I'll be listening to Dark Side and Wish You Were Here for another few years (until 'death day' arrives on my doorstep). I also think Floyd and Roger were (musically) superior when together. Neither of them has done anything like the string of albums from Dark Side up to The Final Cut. That is probably why Rogers 'The Wall' tours consistently sell out and Floyd still have to rely on the back catalogue.

First, it's Gilmour not Gilmore, second... U2 and The Sex Pistols shots throughout this video is deceiving and just confuses people who aren't very familiar with the band. Although there is some truth herein, much of it is unfairly the view of the only one alive who is not actually in the band since 1985.
