We’ve been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the first of many Intel Tiger Lake Chromebooks to ship in 2021 and I can tell you right off the bat that the device we’re looking at today - the ASUS Chromebook CX5 - does not disappoint when it comes to raw performance. Is that giving away too much right off the top? Maybe. But I’m hoping you stick around for just a bit to see why this 11th-gen Intel Chromebook is so special.

I've been looking to buy my first chromebook since July. I just bought this chromebook at Best Buy for $399 on a Black Friday deal. Your review here, and your Best Chromebooks of 2021 video really helped solidify my decision. I was originally thinking about buying the Pixelbook Go, but I couldn't justify buying 2 year old hardware at their asking price, when this blazing fast chromebook was staring at me at $399. Thank you for the awesome content as always. I'll be browsing your website regularly to learn all the cool things chromebooks can do!

The 1st unit went black after a couple of minutes of use out of the box. The 2nd unit has a gaping hole in the front seam and the keyboard/track pad freezes for 5 minutes before I am able to use it. 😡

I have had this Chromebook since mid-April and love it myself. One issue I have with it is that speakers dip/shift in balance from time to time... not a huge issue but sorta aggravating when it happens simply making for inconsistent audio. Haven't gotten a stylus yet but plan on doing so soon.

This chromebook is amazing. I originally bought it for trading and doing some excel workbook on the go. But with the play app store and linux environment, I was able to do most everything that I normally do on my desktop such as photo editing, video editing, and vector art. This chromebook is lighter than my 15" inspiron 7577 and has longer battery life, which makes it very traveler friendly.

I would really like to have a 15" Chromebook, and I like the way ASUS put the number pad at the right side of the keyboard. I wish, at this price point, the screen was brighter though. I am in a well lit room and squinting at the screen for a few hours doesn't sound like much fun. And, $560 used to be on the expensive side. Now it's mid range?

There is truly not enough out there to make that comparison based on research I've done myself. Because I too pine for more chromebook options like this and will get one soon. You have the pixel slate, lenovo duet, lenovo10E, and acer tab 10 released 2018. That's about it my friend. The only real viable options are the first two being the pixel slate and budget friendly Lenovo duet. The others have really poor performance and are really just for cheap classroom options for students. Also even though the slate had a rocky launch everything has been fixed now. So it is bulky but is the highest performing option on the market still. Exspense vs the duet and only 5 years left of updates on the slate for a premium price tag. The duet is very affordable great performance and screen for the price that is also compact. With still 7 years of updates. So really comes down to deciding between performance, price and longevity of updates remaining.

  • @QuantumCairo

@@justinyork2657 but the slate isn't USI compatible right!? That pen was specifically designed to work with the Slate? Not to mention it doesn't come with the keyboard or pen, unlike the Duet. I seriously thought about the Slate as an option for me as well, though, kept seeing small hiccups like software compatibility issues when running android apps or even their own palm detection not being all that great and I'm primarily going to be using the USI stylus for art. Google seems to not give a fuck about updating, refreshing, or fixing things. They've fallen so far from the Nexus 7, "we got a lock on the tablet market" days. They release a phone / tablet / Chromebook and then just drop it and are like "oh well, on to the next thing". Couldn't even get the pixel buds in orange before they got discontinued...when I buy this god damn Chromebook it better last me for 3+ years and that isn't even that much to ask for when you think about it.

I wanted the CM5, but with the worsening shortage of processors, I decided to pull the trigger based on your guidance as well as the sale price this week. I’d rather have this in hand rather than wait for them to possibly sell out during back to school time.

Had one of these for two months now, totally satisfied, with no issues, but now suddenly the fan kicks in every twenty mins or so. Only use it for browsing and light Google docs work. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone got a solution? So far I have tried a powerwash and cleaned the fan vents, with no luck.

I have had this since September, but today I noticed if I watch KZread Tv in full screecn mode in HD the video starts to flicker. Same thing happens for certain Netflix shows and on live Hulu. It doesn't happen on regular KZread. Any ideas what it could be?

Bought one from Best Buy, and then got a $100 refund when, the next day, Best Buy slashed the price. It is heavier and less portable than my old, trusty Samsung Chromebook Pro, which was a great device (it finally saw Linux support a few months ago). Alas, the right hinge finally snapped on the Sammy. What I like about the Asus: performance, backlit keyboard, and again PERFORMANCE. The screen is large and perfectly bright enough for me, and the speakers are marvelous. My two complaints: a nearly undetectable play in the track pad (Robbie, post a video of your DIY fix?) and the edge of the key deck, where it meets the base. I wish this were rounded because, in some positions, my palm rubs on this seam. I'll note I never experienced this with my old Sammy. That said, it was a no-brainer purchase, especially at the reduced price.

I posted a comment over on the review page to Robby hoping he'd explain or show how he did the track pad fix because mine has a lot of play and clicking noise before the switch underneath actually clicks. This is my first Chromebook and I bought it from Best Buy after reading and watching Robby's review and absolutely love everything about the C536 EXCEPT for the play in the track pad. The track pad works perfectly electronically but just has the mechanical play and if I can get that sorted out with a DIY fix, then I won't have to deal with shipping it back and then possibly receiving another one with the same or even other issues. I'd just rather fix this one myself.

I bought this Chromebook 2 weeks ago at Best Buy. I had to return the next day because it went black after less than 5 minutes if use. I exchanged it for another unit. Now I have to return this unit! 😡 There's a gaping 2 inch hole in the seam in the front of the computer. The keyboard/track pad freezes for 5 minutes before I can use the computer!

250nits laptops with glare (glassy) screens, why are they still making it? You can barely see inside in sunny mornings. Everyone will pay the extra 50$ for a 350-500nits panel.
