Yeah, I knew it would help. The Upol just doesn't flow that well even with some thinners and heated up. When this video was taken, it was only the second time using the gun and the first for clear coat. The gun wouldn't look good with the Upol, so at least the Kapci helped as it's a good budget clear and flows nice, so suits a gun that puts out less material. 👍

Hi Pete, fantastic video as always mate as you mentioned in the video the Blue Astro is an amazing gun for the price yes the build quality isn't the best but it's good for a budget gun but the finish you get putting clearcoat through it is as good as my DV1, GTI ProLite and my W400, it even comes close to my WS400 and my X5500 and considering these are between 4 to 6 times the price of the Astro what's not to like👌 If it wasn't for you lending me your blue Astro I don't think I would have got one as they don't seem to promote them very well plus as you said the spec for them is all over the place on different websites so it's all your fault I bought one and I'm pleased I did👏👍 The Gold Astro certainly did a good job on the base as it went down lovely and smooth, I think it was a wise choice to use the 6030 clear rather than the Upol as it did seem to struggle a little but saying that the finish was superb. Thanks for the shout out Pete and thanks for a video on New Years day for me to watch, have a good day mate🙏👍

Hi John, Thanks, mate. I wasn't going to get this as I thought the HE blue one would be the better all-rounder, and I was right. This, in the end, only cost me £50 as it was an Amazon flash sale, there words not mine 😂 and I had a £25 voucher from doing an ONS survey, so I just went for it. It's a better base gun than the HE and uses less material. It's not so good for clear and uses more air, and you can make it work. It would work well with the blue as a base and clear setup. Happy New Year mate, appreciate the support as ever, cheers, mate 👍

Hi Pete. Love your videos. Keeps me entertained daily. My head is spinning a bit as a result of the myriad guns available. I can assure you that I won't be buying as many guns as you do, as I am a hobbyist guitar/bass refinisher. I spray nitrocellulose lacquer in both flat and metallic, with 8-10 rounds of clear after. I currently have a Warwick 838SHE, and an Aeropro 610, but I'm still yearning for one great all-around gun. Price is not a concern, so I would just like to get the best all-arounder to spray nitro, then I can stop shopping around for the "best value gun", etc, "great for the money" mentality. I just want the best. I use an old Devilbiss 30 gallon compressor which generates about 9CFM @90, so probably should focus an a gun that can deliver great results with this compressor. What do you think?

Hi mate, good to hear you like the videos. I've had a few conversations with guitar finishers, and most are very happy with a mini or midi gun for their finishing as the surface is relatively small. I would suggest something like an LPH80 or Devilbiss DV1 or a Meiji Finer Force if you want something bigger, although the latter will be close to your air limit but should still be fine. Have a look at these 2 videos. They will give you an idea of the pattern size expected for the smaller gun's kzread.info/dash/bejne/Zp99tZWDn9qegKQ.htmlsi=xLLT9jhwwtai_QDG kzread.info/dash/bejne/a6R7j699hJm2h7Q.htmlsi=Lt4oiqhdWNFl9XxK

I want a nice cheap gun as all I’m doing is full Harley’s 6-7 times a year and wanting to transition to a home setup vs using my buddy’s shop. I’m stuck between the R500, the a610, the Astro he, and the Astro evo t. What do you recommend as a primer, base, and clear gun.

I agree with your appraisal. The Blue RP is #1. The Green is better for basecoat than the Gold so that's what I use for Basecoat. This was STAR's attempt to copy the LPH400LV and frankly it's not that. One thing that is good about the Gold is that if you're a novice and prone to runs it's a slow gun so less chance for runs with the Gold compared to the Blue. The ASTRO gun I like the best is the Green Mini Gun. I like it better than my SATA MiniJets. I’d compare it to the Sagola Mini-Extreme.

Pete, the ONLY way to get great atomization at low pressure is pre-atomization as Walcom did with the original Geo and Iwata does with the split tip. I wonder when Iwata's split tip patent will expire. The LPH400LV has been out for over 20 years and patents last 17 years. I'm surprised nobody else has copied the split tip if it's out of patent protection. Do you know anything about this?

@satamanschmidt3428 I don't know when Iwatas patent expires, I would have thought it would have expired by now. I know you can get Taiwanese and Chinese guns with a split tip, but I think they just ignore the patent as they know they won't be prosecuted

I haven't experienced the EVO-T, although I have its predecessor Evo4014/Star 4000, which has been stellar for a sub $100 gun. I recently fitted it with an Aliexpress W400 1.3 nozzle and W-400-LV2 air cap turning it into a clear coat beast. 😂 I do own the Europro HE103, and it's a pretty decent gun considering you can get it rather cheap ($79+ tax & shipping is what I paid). I agree that the build quality is impressive for the price tier. The HE sprays well around 20 psi and puts out the fluid, although I find it goes through a little more paint than the FLG5. The fan size is quite wide making it a good budget gun compared to the R500 lineup. The Evo-T, I probably would avoid.

Hi Mate, I got this because I had recently got the HE and was quite pleased with it. An offer came up on Amazon, and I went for it. It's certainly not as good an all-rounder like the HE is. The build quality, as you say, is pretty good, especially considering the price. It would make a good pairing with the HE if you kept the HE for clear and the EVO-T for base. Cheers, buddy. Hi Ricky, First off, I must say it is not advisable to use a microwave for warming paint, but it is what I do. As a general rule, I microwave my mixed clear coat for around 10 seconds per 100ml. Of course, it depends on ambient temperature, but that's a good guide. It's about the same for the base coat, and I also use it for primer. I hope that helps 👍

Thanks for the Psi setting for base and clear....but could give me a ballpark figure on your settings for Air, Fluid and fan controls. I'm pretty much going to spray my car, apart from the doors and bonnet. I bought this gun because a few people made video's ages ago on these guns being used to spray entire cars...Base and clear in 2k....and the results were amazing. @@peteshobbies5383 Hi Peter, I undercoated everything today with a Star spray gun, with a 1.7mm tip. Did a moderate first coat, then 2 heavy coats over both fiberglass and metal panels.... Front bar, Rear bar, side skirts, front guards, boot lid and rear wing. I sanded the fiberglass with 240 grit....and metal panels with 320 grit. I did spend a fair bit of time with the prep....but it was worth it. I sprayed with 2k Primer at 4:1 with hardener. It turned out absolutely perfect. I'll let them sit for a week to give the primer time to shrink, then sand and paint base and clear next Saturday with the above gun. I'll let you know how it turns out. Just a quick question....after spraying that tank....did you rub back with 1500, 3000, 5000, cut then polish....or was that the final result straight from the gun?

Hi buddy, I don't have the HVLP, but normally, if they quote a lower CFM consumption, it's because they are using a lower pressure. Certainly, you can get similar results with any of them. It's the ease that those results are achieved that makes them different, something that is vital if someone is newly into painting, cheers mate 👍

Nice review mate, and beautiful color on that tank. EURO PRO(green one) for smaller compresor EURO PRO HE(blue one) for like 60 gallon compressor with minimun 12cfm pump@40psi EVO-T (gold one) for 60gallon or higher with 14cfm pump I agree with you, There is a lot of mislleading info on the site and also newbie normally dont understand. One things presure the other is volume of air. Both combined is a traduction of workforce needed, if we translate that to electrical equations (presure = voltage, cfm=current). If we need certain amout of power to be able to atomize a clear for example we can achived the same result by reducing the presure and rasing the volume of air, same the other way, the only difference will be the overspray , the more pressure the more over spray. But we almays need to preserve the power that is needed. Evot lower over spray, euro he little more over spray, euro pro higher overspray. Thats is why turbine system normally spray arounds 6-10 psi but cfm is like 30 to 40. The result is less overspray

Hi Jason, I couldn't have put it better myself, I'm often asked about compressors by people, most will just say I have a 50 gallon compressor, will it power a certain gun, completely overlooking the output of said compressor. The output is often much more important than the reservoir or tank as it's normally called, after all, if you have a 1 gallon compressor but it's putting out 20cfm you will power most things, yes, the compressor will be running all the time but it will give you good pressure all the time, it doesn't keep pressure for long the other way round. Cheers, buddy, excellent comment, much appreciated 👍

Hi buddy, In a roundabout way, it does, although it's not the primary reason to do it. If it will cut the smell down as it allows the paint to dry faster, although the smell when painting is no less, it just disappears faster. The main reason I do it is to help the paint dry faster, which speeds the job up but also means you get less chance of dirt in the paint as any dirt won't stick. Thanks Mate, A happy new year to you in gorgeous Italy 👍
