A really great review. So good in fact, I have just bought yesterday the 2017 version Vauxhall Astra diesel sports tourer 1.6 CDTi 16V 136 Elite Nav5dr Auto. Your English is a lot better than my German. Boot is better than Trunk and I had spotted the coffee cups. Mine is Silver and I have ordered wind deflectors from Poland too (HEKO)

Great review. Didn't notice the cups. What was it about the Apple Play you didn't like? If it doesn't indicate incoming calls, that defeats the whole purpose of having that phone/car integration, no? And how would you compare this to the VW Golf Variant? Is the VW worth the extra cash?

At last, a reviewer who takes the time to get to know the car and give us all the info we need. Great stuff! I got the hatch as a courtesy car while my Mazda 6 tourer was being repaired, and I was really impressed with the ride quality. It was the base model with the weakest 1.4L petrol engine, and 5-speed gearbox, but that was about the only thing I would have changed. Oh, and the parking sensors were crazy. Glad to see that the 'sports tourer' is worth buying, and that the higher level trim solves all the little problems I noticed. I'd definitely buy one.

Actually prefer it not driver oriented for the infotainment screen as my passengers often want to play music or choose radio stations and if they're overly tilted towards the driver it makes this needlessly difficult.

I like new Astra and here is a list of things I like most: - intellilux led lights - these are great - automatic heating of seats based on outside temperature - comfortable - heating of steering wheel - very nice engines and tons of other nice features... But there is a list of bad/weird things Opel did: - Watt link; many 2015 astra versions have these (even cars with engines like 125hp petrol etc); most of 2016 versions no longer have these. Not a big deal though. - intellilink 900 - no android auto support at all! It was advertised by Opel that android auto is supported but that was false information. - outside mirrors will never automatically close/open. This car doesn't support this feature. Manual says that there is a way to open/close outside mirrors from remote but that's a lie. Such functionality doesn't exist (even if top version with all optional packages). Very suprising to customers. I hope it's fixable by software update but there are rumors that mirrors controll unit have no connection to car CAN network (which means fixing in software will be impossible) - manual documentation contains options/features that do not exist in any Astra version (just like outside mirrors folding from remote controll), so beware if you choose car based on manual - 2016 versions have silencing mats removed from bonnet! (not sure about other silencing mats). Under bonnet you get pure metal like in ordinary cheap car. Only 200hp petrol and 160hp diesel are left with silencing mats; all other engine versions no longer have these. - intellilink 900 is not recognizing calls from address book if you store phone numbers with country prefix like +XX AAA BBB CCC and cell phone operator indicates that call is coming from AAA BBB CCC. Fixable in software if Opel engineers care. - smartphone holder contains USB port ... without actual USB data functionality. It only provides power. It doesn't connect to car infotainment system. If you want to have phone in smartphone holder and want to connect to infotainment system then you have use a long usb cable and connect it to port inside armrest (yeah, crazy!) - no support for POI alerts in navigation system, so you can't get alerts for speed cameras for example. Another easily fixable thing if engineers care. - parking sensors are very, very, very loud and there is no way to adjust volume of all these. Another easily fixable thing in software. - inside back mirror has very low up/down movement regulation. You can rise driver seat, so high that you won't be able to set up back mirror correctly (you won't see back window). What's the point of so nice/wide sear regulation if you can setup back mirror correctly then?

+Djeseret I'm not wrong. I'm talking about top level version of Astra (it's called "Elite" here) with all possible options included. There is NO automatic mirrors folding and NO folding via remote. Only by pressing a button on driver doors. Specify which "serveral things" you think are wrong.

I have a 5 door version of astra k and i really like it. And also about screen i dont think like you. Because generally im not the one who touch the screen to control it becuase i have my own buttons on the wheel. So usually my girlfriend do this and she feels confortable to reach to screen as same as i do. So im not supporting of driver based screens; these ones are more logical for my side. And thats a great review thank you!(:

Android auto works only on intellink r4, and not on navi900 which is in this car. It should come on navi900 in summer 2016, but it wont be avalible as a software upgrade for older units built before my2017. There is some info around about software upgrade for older units, but its incorrect.

The "cover" compartment in front of the gear lever... It is an opening hatch !! You just have to know the secret... In the glovebox hatch beside the coins, You will find a small handle, pull it out and push it sideways into the rails in the silver bar - pull the handle, the hatch opens to the right and behind it you you will find... fuses and relays!! Explained in the user manual. Mokka X looks the same but where it is a button and a large storage space.

+Video Car Review Ok, that's what I thought also. It's quite strange that there is no ACC since the car already has sensors for distance measurement + auto braking functionality. To me, it sounds that all it would need is a "few" more lines of sw code to obtain the ACC. Maybe it will come to Astra as an SW update, well, only time will tell. Anyway, really like your reviews, very extensive and there's a good groove in them, not so uptight. Excellent.

Display orientation? No, it doesn't have to be tilted towards the driver. Partly this is because if the boss [wife or anyone else I guess] is sitting in the passenger seat, more often than not it is they that uses the touchscreen and this would be very difficult if it was turned towards the driver. I t is more important to have either a mini-display in the centre of the driver's instruments and/or also as a head-up display on higher end models. Also having audio and telephone controls on the steering wheel and an effective voice control system is desirable and all reduce the use and distraction of a big centre touchscreen display.

owning one for a year now, been very happy with it, the difference in price between hatchback and sports tourer is not that much And for the extra price you get ample space and comfort You need to love the looks, not everyone likes the chrome bar on the side (innovation line) I think it's stylish and the car looks sporty overall one tip : get a good engine, not the least powerful

Interior still looks like shit. Opel should really stop advertising themselves as a german brand. This is a low quality and outdated interior+exterior (i mean lol the new Opel Mokka already has a bigger touchscreen than this pathetic excuse of infotainment.) Only motivation at this point is apple car play/android auto. Looks like a coffin car to me, the design line is horrid as well, the front is two steps back from the previous model and the back is uninspirational as ever. Also whats up with 1.6 diesels having more than 100 g co2/km ? Nice road tax right here in many european countries.... A peugeot 308 sw from 2014 is more stylish, has more premium feel, costs less and has more space inside. And that is 2 years ago. What a sad direction opel is going. I suggest shutting down all production apart from insignia and corsa.
