Bamford certainly cheated, but yet again Grealish dived all game and bought a penalty, complete dive. Under the current climate hopefully he will be given a 2 match ban for the deception of a match official, which could mean this was his last game in a Villa shirt.....

Unlucky for Whelan, made 1 mistake and seems a lot of fans have turned on him. Hopefully his confidence hasn't been shot down because he's been crucial for Villa this season. Unfortunately after that error it wasn't really helpful with him on the pitch, they sat back and we needed Conor for attacking purposes. Albert needs to be replaced by Green for the next game. Taylor was fantastic yesterday.

whelan was the automatic choice for this game. he played well even after his mistake. our fans need to see why he needs to play as he is an important midfield destroyer. hourihane came on at the right time. Dean smith knows what he is doing. id say whelan to start next game against WBA too.

@@scafT Yeah, I've been defending Whelan for ages and it's good that people have seen how vital he is to our midfield and our team. He brings the most balance to the team allowing McGinn and Grealish to push forward knowing they have cover behind them. Even when the defenders push forwards Whelan takes over their position temporarily instead of leaving that gap. Hourihane and McGinn are too similar of players to have in the same team which is why they don't really work well together. Also his leadership and experience is what we need. We've got the lead now and we need to sit on it, especially at their ground we're gonna need all the defense we have to play it safe.

thankfully our manager had the sense not to play Hutton. what happened to Dawson? his absence was key to our victory. the 1st goal wasn't so much Whelan's fault as Grealish's bad back pass. credit to Jack for keeping his head up though and what an equaliser!!

Every year the championship play offs is probably the most exciting thing to follow in the whole English Football pyramid, this year seems to be the most quality...4 big clubs battling for 1 place. Some Nervous fans midweek

Great game. We are the best team in The Championship when we have the correct players in the line-up. And Hourihane is one of them.

The atmosphere was electric yesterday. I was so happy to see Gale get his marching orders. It's a shame we couldn't of had another few thousand tickets for the away leg. We would of sold them easy and the boys need all the support they can get. Lets finish the job now and get ready for Wembley. I know it's far from over but it's advantage Villa and if we're on our A game we have more that enough...UTV

That would be the same Leeds United whose player got a Villa man sent off by conning the ref into thinking he had been elbowed in the face. The same Leeds United who send spies to break into opponents training grounds like some sort of cold war Soviet military tactic. The same Leeds whose very name includes the prefix "dirty"for anyone who isn't a Leeds fan. Righteo.... I think I'll file that under b*********. Anyway, best football comeback I've seen all week. @@bevbo42 Being fouled is not diving you tool. Do you believe Jack has EVER been fouled? No, I am confident every time he goes down you shout dive. If Jack was a diver he would have been suspended numerous times for simulation. He hasn't ever been banned once for diving in his career. NOT ONCE! And if he was "diving all over the place against Leeds and WBA" then how on earth has he managed to avoid any kind of ban? Is it possible that he is FOULED and therefore WINS penalties and doesn't "buy" them? Whatever that means. Not a SINGLE ALBION player appealed against it. Not even Gibbs himself. He knows it was a foul, the officials know it was a foul, everyone except people with an agenda against Grealish and/or Villa knows it was a foul. He will get better standards of refereeing next season as we will be in the Premier League where he won't be getting taken out within seconds of each game. Grealish is the most naturally talented player in this league and as such he is targeted by the opposition. That's why he wins so many free kicks. Have a look at the stats for top creative midfielders and see how many fouls were committed against them over the years. Its part of their job description to be stopped at all costs by the opposition. Especially when you are as good as Jack is. Leeds have always been a dirty club and many Leeds fans wear the "dirty Leeds" moniker as a badge of honour. As if it's some sort of recognition of toughness. Anyway. I can't be bothered to read all your love for Grealish, there were plenty of compilation videos of Grealish diving all over the p. Sure he gets fouled as do other players - but he seems to think that every time he is tackled he is fouled. I'm not sure what you mean by 'Being fouled is not diving you tool' I never said it was??

As a neutral, there is no way that Gale should have been sent off - he went for the ball at the height that the ball was coming into the area - very brave of the keeper and I hope he is ok but Gale's eyes were on the ball the whole time. Was a great game.

Strange your coverage does not show Abraham fouling Holgate for a stonewall penalty. Even Lee Hendry said Albion should have had a penalty and Gayle had every right to go for that cross.

Gayle's challenge on Steer was dangerous and petty - he had plenty of time to pull away after he obviously wasn't winning it and left it in because he was frustrated. Deserved to walk - although it makes his first yellow for time wasting around the hour mark look pretty silly. Agreed Abraham on Holgate was a penalty though.

gayle was unlucky to be sent off as he was only going for the ball; he's not a dirty player. however, it's good news for aston villa & bad news for wba. ps, i used to live in avila house, but i'm a palace fan; gayle, benteke, bolasie former players. sadly, my son's former ealing swimming club coach, dave heathcock died earlier this year; he was a villa fan & it looks like he has missed villa's promotion to the premier league.
