And as previously mentioned, he's made enough errors on video for 40k to just be qualified as a fan, not an expert. That ship at 2:00 is an Imperial Navy Cobra class torpedo escort. In Battlefleet Gothic (table top), you could take them as escorts in your Space Marine fleet. The actual Space Marine escort ships look like scaled down Battle Barges. Edit: If it is indeed an Imperial Navy ship, it would make sense for there to be normal humans on the ship.

    cobras are employed by SM chapters as far as I know and of course theres gonna be human personal on the ship, operating every fuction of these ships would be below a space marine EDIT: but yeah its probably a joint venture of IG and SM depicted in the video, it seems that the rebels have something of worth (the start of part 3 with the door) calling the inquisition to the matter and they asked some SM for help to secure it, or so it would seem

    @Kyros Droztamyr The only gun that we see the Astartes having to worry about was the autocannon, against which they had to angle their pouldrons because those things are famous for killing Astartes. Heavy stubbers on the other hand are useless. They are literally modern Heavy Machine Guns, not even the overkill Russian 14.5 mm one should be able to kill a Space Marine outside of a point blank shot penetrating one of the junctions.

  • @zerginfestorhots6132

    @Kyros Droztamyr did a looksie on the weapon itself, apparently this modification makes it lose out on it's penetrative power, meaning it's entirely meant for infantry or very light armored vehicles. It would appear that the only true threat was that 20mm autocannon, since a multilaser is the exact opposite of what you'd want. Would be interesting to see a lascannon in the next vid, tho.

    I have lost the fight to resist my burning need to throw my two cents in. 1:47 : Cobra, not Strike Cruiser. Though you obviously noted your mistake, so no harm. 3:29 : If it were Astartes, these could also be bondsmen, regular humans who are bound to chapters as the base level workforce. Even the biggest Chapters don't have enough Chapter Serfs to man every warship and facility. But Navy vessel, so these are almost certainly Navy Armsmen. 4:44 : No complaints here, just pointing out it could also indicate the marine performing the blessing was in the Deathwatch at some point. 5:28 : Lowballing their weight by a good amount. An unarmored Astartes probably weigh more in the 600-700 lbs region. They're not only big, they're DENSE. 6:40 : Boarding Torpedoes do not deploy out of hangers. That is a Caestus Assault Ram. 7:28 : I actually thought this was a Xiphon until you pointed it out as a Thunderbolt. Which bothers me slightly, Thunderbolts are usually deployed in atmosphere. A Fury would have been the more appropriate Navy fighter to escort a Caestus in. BUT, since this is a mere Destroyer, it's possible they deployed a Thunderbolt due to lacking the space or facilities to care for a full void fighter. A Xiphon would fit, but they are fairly rare machines. 15:40 : In fact, not even the eye lense is a weak point. It's actually a small camera under a glass lense that displays on a screen right behind it. The helmet is just a solid there as anywhere. 37:37 : I just want to point out my appreciation of the sound design of this series. The reverbing echo of the bolt pistol firing down that corridor is just perfect. 46:29 : Also because Astartes optics allow them to SEE through the smoke. If you recall the scene when they first leave their Caestus (which I'm surprised you didn't point out), you get a brief view from the Marines' perspective, looking out of the exit hatch and seeing the heretics highlighted in thermal vision. However, you are correct that even without a helmet, an Astartes could make that shot through memory alone. And what a perfect shot to end on. Very excited to see what happens next!

The initial fire of the traitors is aimed at the direction the Thunderbolt flew to, and there's a massive explosion, either missles being fired down or the Thunderbolt coming apart under the defensive fire. The attention to detail of Astartes' short clips is amazing.

    Arch: Chapter serfs are armed. Both in fortress monasteries and aboard Astartes vessels. They can fulfill roles as gunners (although mostly servitors perform that function) and as stationary guards, since they wouldn't be able to keep the same pace as Astartes in offensive operations. Also, don't forget, a strike cruiser is frigging huge. Frigate sized ships in 40K are somewhere between 1-2 kilometers long. Cruisers are even bigger.

    Massively late to the party, but a fair amount of the 3d models have been made and that is where a good portion of the difficulty and time are sunk. In Star Wars Clone Wars you don't ever see Alya Secura until Jedi Crash. After that, she is often seen in the background at the Jedi Temple because they had her model. The models for the bolters, bolt and plasma pistol, the Mk 7 power armor, the guardsmen/rebels, numerous corridors, and various other weapons have already been created. The sounds and associated effects have been created and assigned. A large chunk of the work has already been done. A different chapter is a reskin away. Now rendering time is a different story. I shudder to think how long it took for 1 frame to render.

    The weaponry getting “stronger” as the Astartes get closer to their objective makes sense. You try to keep your bigger weapons closer to the point of defense to make it easier to maintain, run ammo, etc. And the smoke grenade doesn’t have to have any kind of flash in it. Flares on jets/bombers dump loads of chaff which is basically really hot metal flakes. Not to mention smoke grenades are already super hot when deployed. If the viewfinder the lasgun was using relied on heat sensing or IR, the grenade would’ve definitely blinded the sensors for at least a few seconds while either the sensor readjusts or the grenade runs for a while and “cools off”. Not to mention the lasgun is like a 50/50, he fired early out of panic, or he fired early because he wanted to keep the element of surprise, not letting the Astartes make it however far down the hallway, notices the turret early, and fires first. It takes away any reaction time the marine might have. Still not a great idea either way lmao.

    The weapon being used by the renegade that was ambushing the astartes from within the walls appears to take a number of cues from various Anti-armor weaponry fielded during world war 1 and 2, most notably the side feeding Solothurn S18-1000, however I have seen a GSh-30-1 set up to fire as a stationary gun emplacement with a similar drum magazine, so it's safe to say the bullets being fired during that scene could be anywhere from 20mm to 30mm.

    Autoguns are not "rag tag" weapons. The imperial guard and imperial navy use autoguns. And they are roughly comparable in damage and performance to lasguns. At least according to the lore. It's just that GW haven't been arsed to make a lot of imperial guard figures sporting autoguns rather than lasguns. Also another thing, the fact that the crew has advanced gear: the very fact that they have a ship to begin with should tell you something. Most normal imperial citizens hardly even know that interstellar travel is possible. So if you've got access to void faring vessels, then you're well-connected and probably well financed too. It's not that out of the ordinary that certain rebel forces and heretics also have significant financial backing. In fact they probably have to be wealthy in order to pull of a real rebellion to begin with.

    @matthiuskoenig3378

    @@sevenproxies4255 in the lore the lasgun is easier to maintian and breaks less often compared to autoguns due to far fewer moveing parts. in adition the siege of vraks talks about autoguns and says the ones that have the same power are high claiber guns and thus are very inaccurate at all but the closest ranges. so the autogun is more dificult to maintain, it has a smaller magazine, as much more requoil and mussel climb, and in adition to get the same power you need to use large caliber rounds (which are basically hinted at being around .458 caliber rounds like thisen.wikipedia.org/wiki/.458_Winchester_Magnum). all in all it is a worse gun especially when you factor in how easy it is too resupply a lasgun (leave its power packs in the sun to recharge or plug it into a chimera or generator or even just plop it next to a fire) makes it the prefured weapon for most imperial guard regiments. GW has released kits useing autoguns the genestealer cults and forgeworlds renagade militia.

  • @sevenproxies4255

    @sevenproxies4255

    5 жыл бұрын

    @@matthiuskoenig3378 Lasguns are not "easier" to resupply on account of the fact that the power packs are more expensive and more difficult to manufacture than solid slugs. Practically every world in the imperium produces chemical propellant ammunition of some kind. The production of Departmento Munitorum Sanctioned Power Packs however is limited to far fewer worlds. The powerpacks themselves have a limited lifespan as well. You can't recharge and fire them an infinite amount of times since they will degrade. wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Autogun "Cheap and easy to produce on even the low-tech planets, autoguns are a staple weapon across the Imperium. Durable, rugged and easily stocked with readily available ammunition, these weapons are a common sight especially in the rougher parts of the galaxy.[4] The simple technology needed to manufacture autoguns makes them common on frontier worlds and also with gang members on Hive Worlds. Autoguns are not as common as the lasgun amongst Imperial Guard regiments, *but they are still issued in substantial numbers* , especially by second or third line planetary defence forces or militias.[7]" Also regarding the lasguns reliability, let me quote my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer (Damocles Gulf Edition) page 21, section V: "You must ensure that your lasgun is operational at all times! The best way to bestow a long and useful life on your weapon is to keep it clean and oiled. This is an easy thing to achieve, given the simplicity of the lasgun's construction. Make it a habit to clean your gun at least once a day. Then you can be sure you are administering at least the minimum amount of proper care. Run a fresh oil cloth over the body and exposed working parts. Ensure the mechanics are well lubricated. Apply a thin coating of sacred unguent with the blessed swab cloth. Then, with a dry cloth, wipe away any excess oil and dirt from the body. Eject the power pack and pull back the cover of the ignition chamber. Clean the ignition rings thoroughly (if these are soiled, the gun will not fire reliably) and check for any blockages. Replace power cell and check firing mechanism. Remember to recite the litany of cleanliness and Litany of Unjamming (refer to Emperor's Benedictions) during this procedure to make sure that the weapon is clean, in spirit and in body, and will not fail when you ask for it's service. If a problem occurs that is beyond your skill to rectify, report the fault immediately to the armourer or techseers so a proper overhaul, with the correct litanies and incantations, can be prescribed to the ailing machine. Do not try to remedy such a problem yourself. The spirit of the lasgun must be respected. In the interim, a new weapon will be issued to you. A Guardsman without his rifle is useless to the Emperor. Ensure it's wellbeing in the same way as you do your own. Your life depends on it." In other words, barring the superstitious litanies and incantations involved, regular daily maintenance is required and not dissimilar to the daily maintenance that a real world soldier would do with a smokeless powder based weapon. And remember, the uplifting primer is a piece of grossly optimistic propaganda (for instance when describing Orks and Eldar in the enemy section, they describe Orks as "weak" and frail, and the Eldar technology is decribed as inferior and unsophisticated), so various weaknesses and inferiorities in the lasgun would not be published, due to the innate heresy of it. Aside from that, lasguns burn their targets and cauterize the wounds. Autoguns however do not burn their targets but penetrate them, causing bleeding, which adds a lethal element to them which the lasgun does not possess. Also, in The Last Chancers, Kage talks to a Steel Legion trooper positioned in a warfront against Orks. And he says that they prefer autoguns over lasguns against the Orks, because Orks respect loud noises and associate it with power, influencing their decision making and behaviour when going up against humans armed with autoguns. They do not however respect the relatively quiet whip-crack noise that lasguns make when fired. And as most people who know something about Orks in 40K would know: if you can do ANYTHING to make them hesitate charging into close combat, then you do it. Because as soon as they are in melee, the fight becomes a nightmare. Aside from that, looking at the in-game rules: the profile stats for autoguns and lasguns have been identical for most of the time. And looking at more detailed rules sets (like the game Inquisitor, Necromunda and the Warhammer 40.000 Roleplaying game rules) there's a wide variety of stub guns and autoguns as well as lasguns of different quality, damage and penetrative capabilities. Picking from those lists, you can easily pick an autogun that is just plain better than the "standard issue" lasguns that many Imperial Guard (but not all) regiments prefer to use. So the claim that "all in all it's a worse gun" is incorrect. The claim that the lasgun supposedly is "easier to resupply" is also incorrect, since only a limited number of forge worlds make them and their powerpacks, whereas practically every hive world in the imperium, and even low-tech worlds (barring the most extremely primitive death worlds) manufacture their own stub guns and auto guns of some sort.

    @@sevenproxies4255 without going into a wall of text. 1st. Daily maintainence is not necessary required, it is just recommended practice - this keeps guardsmen from having idle hands. Autoguns however suffer the same risk s that exist in modern firearms - dud rounds, stovepipes, double feeds etc 2nd. Resupply is easier, an infantryman has a power pack issued for the campaign that has almoat infinate ways to recharge even when blocaded with no hope of logistical resupply as opposed to needing replacement magazines in real terms after every combat engagement. 3rd. Specialised autoguns variants do not indicate parity with standard Lasgun's as you have sacrificed the simplicity that is required for good standard issue weapons. 4th. The point on Orks is valid but a negative in any other engagement. 5th. You mention the idea that bleeding from an auto gun adds a different lethality vector, either you intentionally ignore or don't know the other lethality vector a weapon like a Lasgun has. If it has enough power to flashburn and cauterise it is nigh guaranteed to be able to boil blood inside the body at the impact point for severe risk of embalisms.
