"Never my love" came out about the same time l first saw this beautiful girl while in hi school. Every once in a while she would turn and look at me , but there was no indication she was interested in me. After 6 mos. of trying to get her attention, l gave up and started looking for another girl. One day while l was sitting in my car listening to "Never my love" , and feeling lonely, she walked across the front of my car. I thought " there she goes , doesn't even care how l feel about her." When she was almost out of sight she stopped and gave me the most beautiful smile l had ever seen! My adrenaline rush was so great l couldn't even open the door! I finally opened it and l almost fell out. All the while she stood there looking and laughing. When l walked up to her l was so nervous all l could say was "Hi , Hi, Hi" , my heart was beating so fast l almost passed out. Turned out that she thought l wasn't interested in her. She was right, cause l never made a move toward her, l was also very shy. I almost lost her. We started dating, married and this comming March will be our 54th anniversary , Lord willing. She has been an excellent wife, a perfect mother and grandmother. We are still very much in love, have weathered many storms together. "Never my love" always takes us back to that special moment when our eyes met and it all started from there . She still laughs when she remembers how l almost fell out of car.

My wife passed away in 2016...… the first group we ever saw when we started dating was The Association in concert in Hampton, Va. in 1969. We were married 46 years and I will always miss her, this song has always reminded me of her.

I am amazed (and totally jealous!!!!!) of your story. I was a sucker for this song as well as "Cherish" when I was in Jr HS. In those innocent years I dreamed of a life with a dream bride who would be my loving wife for 52 years. I was never as fortunate as your man ... but I can say this in 2022 ... his spirit is most definitely alive and well .. with the words you've written here ... with this very awesome and amazing song ... perhaps you have not come to realize it yet, but you bring your man back to life ... every time you listen to this wonderful song and hear the beauty of his heart singing to you inside every lyric. Never My Love. 1967. Nothing left to say, other than .. LOVE!!!

I'm 8 years older than he is (currently he's 47 and I'm 56) so I was a babe when this song came out. The Association was Moms favorite group back in the day.

A time when things were not so complicated? What? That's how you see the 1960s? Really? Sounds like nostalgia has made you forget what the 1960s was really like. Political turmoil, wars, constant threat of nuclear annihilation, "race riots" across the United States and a fight for basic racial rights, assassinations, the Democratic National convention in Chicago, women fighting for equal rights, gay people fighting for equal rights, Indigenous people fighting for justice and recognition, former colonies of European empires getting independence and going through struggles to establish themselves, sexual revolution, drugs, drugs, drugs, beatniks and hippies, etc., etc.

Here’s trivia for all of you. Ever wondered why they sound the way they do? Different? For those with very keen hearing there’s an extra voice who isn’t on stage. One of the guitarists with black hair and short is a Filipino who sings with his brother who is the audio engineer and sings with the group when they perform and record. This accounts for why it seems like they were doing the technique employed by the Beatles called ‘sound on sound’. The Filipino brothers have the same voice signature as with most siblings that they didn’t have to do sound on sound. As an audio visual specialist and tv musical producer when I was in my 20’s onwards I was an avid listener and a follower of musicians of my days. This group’s distinct sound was a puzzle for me until one day, they performed in my city. I went to the venue early and hangout where the audio engineer/controller was at the back of the theater facing the stage. There I met the brother who upon learning I’m a Filipino American revealed to me their secret unbeknownst to all of us. They didn’t have to have to do sound on sound both in their live performances and during their recordings. The brothers sing a live duet, you only see one of them on stage. There you go. What a thrill for our listening pleasure.

Discovered this band 2 days ago while listening to some Marmalade. Couldn't believe the vocals, and the keys + lead guitar parts; sounded way ahead of its time. And the first thing I thought was: "there is no way Grizzly bear was not influenced by these guys." Going to spend the next month going through Association's entire discography. It's amazing how much good music is out there; discovered 10 bands from 2022, and 10 others from the Golden Age. It's good to be alive right now, people.

Terry Robert Kirkman (December 12, 1939 - September 23, 2023) was an American musician and songwriter best known as a vocalist for the pop group The Association and the writer of several of the band's hit songs such as "Cherish", "Everything That Touches You", and "Six Man Band". As a member of The Association, he was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003. Early life Terry Robert Kirkman was born in Salina, Kansas, on December 12, 1939, and was raised in Chino, California. His parents both had a musical background. His father Gordon had performed in bands as a soprano saxophone player and singer, and his mother Lois played the organ and piano at church and in silent film theaters] He first learned how to play brass instruments as a child, during the Second World War.After graduating from Chino High School in 1957, he attended Chaffey College as a music major. He met Frank Zappa in college and they performed together at local coffeehouses from 1959 to 1961. Kirkman left the Association at the end of 1972, and returned when the band was reformed in 1979, after previously splitting up the year before. After growing tired of touring, Kirkman left the band in 1984. Subsequently, on rare occasions he performed in guest appearances with the band. He was present when he and the Association's other surviving members were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2003and when the band were recipients of the Rock Justice Awards on January 18, 2019, at Village Studios in Los Angeles. A series of interviews that he and Jules Alexander took part in, in early 2023, were released in separate parts, starting on September 1, 2023. The fourth part of these interviews was released a day before his death. Personal life and death In the years following his departure from the Association, Kirkman retired from the music industry and worked in California as an addictions counselor. Kirkman lived in Montclair, California, with his wife Heidi. He died from congestive heart failure on September 23, 2023, at age 83, following a long illness. Take care and God bless

Jen C hey Jen, if you dig this, I made a playlist called “Colorado Dreaming” that starts with a Sir Douglas Quintet tune called “She’s About a Mover”. Started it for myself a month or two back without realizing it becomes public, but it’s mostly all older gems that I keep adding to. I just threw this one on there too. Take it easy.

Dear Janet...haunting words: "We have lived and loved". These few words contain an essence, a credo. There is almost a dare there...Are you brave enough to live? Are you brave enough to love? For some, these are moot questions. For others, a dare to live and love. Be well. "One day we shall meet in a place where there is no darkness".

One of the many songs my dear father remembers when he was about to ship off to Vietnam. 18, alone, scared and never away from home before. Left innocent came back changed forever. Thankfully he handled it all well but as he has gotten older, in his mid 70s now, memories of the war and all the music from that time brings him to tears. Sad to think we still have learned no lessons from that waste of life war.

*The Association - Never My Love* *You ask me if there'll come a time* *When I grow tired of you* *Never, my love* *Never, my love* *You wonder if this heart of mine* *Will lose its desire for you* *Never, my love* *Never, my love* *What makes you think love will end?* *When you know that my whole life depends* *On you (on you)* *Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba (ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba)* *Never, my love* *Never, my love* *You say you fear I'll change my mind* *I won't require you* *Never, my love* *Never, my love* *How can you think love will end* *When I've asked you to spend your whole life* *With me? (with me, with me)* *Never, my love (never, my love)* *Never, my love* *Never, my love (never, my love)* *Never, my love* *Never, my love*

Been married 27 years this was our wedding song, it meant a lot to me, I remember it well as a child. Sadly we are getting a divorce this year, but I still love the lyrics, very moving and emotional song, beautiful harmonies and I love the keyboards.

I was born in the 90s and ever since i was a kid, this has been one of my favorite songs. As a songwriter, i think this is a perfect example of a perfect song. Everything is right about it. Beautiful melody, gorgeous harmony, lovely lyrics, fabulous singing, beautiful texture with all the instruments. It never fails to send shivers down my spine and make me think fondly of going to the beach growing up. Timeless

The love of my life played me this song after I asked her if she thought she would ever wake up and decide she had changed her mind about loving me. I’ve heard this song a million times, but I never really HEARD it. Until this moment. I love you TRDW. I love you EVER my love. ♥️♾💞

The princess crap needs to go. Women these days have 1/10th of the feminine instinct of your average woman from 50 years ago. They want to boss men around more than respect them and then cry because men aren’t fawning over them like men did before the successive waves of feminism made women resentful of men.
