Assembly - 8x8 Amphibious Vehicle Argo REBUILD Ep.9

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this second to last video of this series I'm bending, welding & painting ARGO handrails and fixing mounts; installing fuel tank, fuel line, battery box and battery, battery leads and fuel filler tube. Then it's time to apply the butyl seal to the bottom half (the tub) that makes the seam between top and bottom watertight. The top half goes back on pretty easily considering I have to do it alone. It wasn't simple because it was uncomfortable to reach, hold and lift. But it wasn't that difficult either. The top half gets mounted using stainless hardware instead of aluminium rivets like it originally had. Using stainless steel bolts and nuts makes it easier to pull the two halves together tight and compress the butyl seal. Then I'm ripping apart the old rusty 12V DC electric winch that was on this 8x8 Argo. The fair lead roller mount is frozen solid due to rust and neglect. But it finally pops open so I can somewhat clean and spray paint it black so it doesn't hurt the eye anymore. Before I'm able to install the winch mount I have to install a rubber strip that goes around the middle seam of Argo. Then the winch mount goes on after I beat it back into shape using a hammer. I'm having some serious trouble installing the headlights which brings me to the end of the video where I show other stuff that needs to be done and fixed. Last episode coming next week, fingers crossed. Then onto other projects!

1:27 I would recommend putting a metal strip behind, which runs over the full length of the plastic piece, so the load can spread better to the plastic - and if you put pressure on the plastic railing, the metal can support it.

Just a heads up. Since the haul is made out of fiberglass, if any of the through bolts/nut holes are suspect bad, you can always use polyester resin and fiberglass mat (CSM and/or 1708 or such) to build up any enlarged hole. And even reinforce the holes to make them more solid and hold perfectly. Just an idea... Thumbs Up!

My guess on surrounding body bolts is 75, I guessed 8' long X 4'-6" wide, multiplied xyz and came up with 300"devide by bolts every 4", only took me an hour. But if this Argo is in metric my math might be slightly off and require some recalculating, trouble is I dont understand metric math..... So when screwing around with that headlight for 2 hr, ever wonder how they installed it at the factory in 2 min, well maybe new parts go together easier, but form I'd end up using a hammer, then new parts............. PS, You left a deep scar on hand rail at the bend, pant always multiplies imperfections, I just hope I dont loose sleep about that...........
