Our Zulu Assegai [as-uh-gahy] are made from SK-5 medium carbon steel, heat treated and drawn to a tough spring temper, and designed to flex or bend under impact forces rather than breaking or shattering. The Assegai blade is available with a choice of two different premium American Ash shafts (A shorter model for thrusting or a full length throwing shaft), and comes complete with a durable Secure-Ex® sheath.

    I bought one of the short shaft ones one night when I was drunk and watching clips from the movie Zulu. This thing is a beast! It's my first Cold Steel piece and I think I want some more.

    if you read "Germania" by Tacitus, you'll see how he describes that one barbarian tribe in particular had similar style weapons. I've always thought that's a great concept, you basically have a sword that's cheaper to make and throwable

    I wonder why all spearheads have coned sockets? This makes the wooden shaft attachment quite a challenge cause if you file it only slightly wrong, the spear will not sit straight on the shaft. Wouldn't be straight cylindrical sockets easier so you can just buy the right diameter dowel and attach it? And the music used is again really good, any chance that we will get any info to download it or buy it? Maybe a "cold steel weaponshow soundtrack compilation" ?

    Can you one-hand this spear (the long one)? I'm looking for a cheap substitute for a Greek Dory, in function mostly, I don't really care that much about how it looks, but I don't want the short assegai. I don't plan on throwing it. I was hoping to be able to hold an aspis-like shield in my left hand and use this spear with only my right hand. What about the CS's European spear? That's probably way too heavy to one-hand right?

  • @horuslupercal2385

    @horuslupercal2385

    You CAN 1-hand a long-shaft spear. Either hold it in the middle of the shaft, so it's above your shoulder (imagine holding it as if you're about to throw it) OR hold it toward its back-end but use the last 18" of it braced against the lower part of your forearm (imagine it being held forward like a jousting pole). NOTE: it's difficult to quickly switch between these 2 holding positions, so definitely think ahead in terms of how you plan on using it.

    I was wondering how the Bantu warriors fight with their spears, like in an epic duel, besides thrusting and stabbing. They probably also designed them for slashing and cutting, like they’re oversized knives.

    The assegai was meant as a stabbing spear, not a throwing spear...more properly, a spear is meant to be a pole weapon, for stabbing and thrusting...a 'javelin' is meant for throwing...having said that, I love the assegai as a close quarters weapon...
