Assateague Island OSV Tips And Tricks To Drive On The Beach!

I've been asked a lot about doing a "tips and tricks" video for Assateague Island OSV. I have to admit, it was hard coming up with a concept, until we thought about just talking about our experience there and what we like to bring for comfort.
I really hope this video helps, if you have any questions, just let me know and I'd love to help. Here is the link to the National Park Service website that goes over rules, safety equipment, fees and more.

    Coming down next week actually for spring break! Will definitely have to grab a sub, and question…do you have to drive the entire beach to exit? Or are there exits along the way? Or do you just turn around to exit the beach? It’s our first time

  • @ReelJayB

    @ReelJayB

    4 ай бұрын

    Your going to have a blast! It's an awesome time out there. The OSV only has 1 entrance/exit. So whenever you want to exit, just go back to where you came in from. When leaving, you can't miss the big red sign that says OSV EXIT. If you go all the way to the MD/VA state line, theres poles with thick wire at the border so you won't be able to drive past it, so you'd have to turn around there.

    Here is another good tip for driving on the Assateague OSV, especially during the summer: GET THERE EARLY!!! Sources tell me that the OSV fills up disturbingly fast on the busiest days; sometimes earlier than 7 AM! I have heard from someone who arrived at the OSV at approximately 5:15 on a Saturday morning in the middle of summer, and there were already 70 vehicles on the beach! It was full by 6:30 that same morning. Here is something even more alarming: the OSV is well known to reach capacity frequently on summer weekends, but nowadays, it is reaching its 145-vehicle limit on summer weekdays as well as weekends in the spring and fall. I have seen it reach 145 vehicles in mid-April! This is why I usually prefer the Chincoteague OSV.
