    I like how after years since the game came out, people are realizing how good of a game Unity actually is. The story, sure, is a little cliche, but to watch our protagonist get beaten down over and over again was undoubtedly painful. Connor became great by the end of his story despite having lost so much, but Arno literally had nothing by the end of his story. Both his biological and adoptive fathers died, so did his lover/childhood best friend. He had to kill his mentor. He was an enemy of the Templars since the beginning and the Assassins essentially abandoned him. Arno only had his moral compass from then on. He learned that fanaticism and blind loyalty will only ruin everything around you. It's like a poison. Blind loyalty to your faction (Assassins/Templars) split Arno's world apart and killed everything and everyone in it.

    Sorry to bring this up a bit late and just saw on my recommended; Arno’s been helping out the assassins after killing la touche (co-op missions). Some time in between Dead Kings, as revealed by the Paris stories and novel, Arno continues to help out and later on deals with a traitor. He ends up joining back with the assassins and gets his master robes, which explains why it’s unlocked at the end of the game

    A bit about connor as well. Arno still has the creed as he later rejoin them after the game. But connor, he builds the creed by "himself" by the looks of the ending. Arno most likely unintentionally betray some allies while mostly commited to his lover only so it doesn't feel like a loss when he have to kill his old allies

    I really truly deeply wish Ubisoft had given us the Arno, Shay and Connor crossover game. They teed themselves up so perfectly for this endgame level game where these characters could interact with each other in an amazing story in the late 18th early 19th century Arno definitely deserved more, he spent Unity on this character arc setting him up as a master assassin and we never got to see it fulfilled Wasted potential, but I'm glad people are starting to recognise Unity was in fact a good if not great AC game and it was the launch that scuppered it

    What I love most about AC; is I feel like the Assassins are a fictional portrayal of libertarian values and those of a truly free society. The templars represent those who want control, power and the ability to dictate the lives of others in the name of the greater good. The series represents the eternal struggle between these philosophies; also underlying that the assassins or those who prize freedom have always been the dedicated minority.

    Templar wants to bring peace into the world by power and control. Assassin wants freedom. But freedom in return can bring chaos and wars. So the question is would you rather give up your freedom for the sake of peace, or you would rather fight for your freedom and make history repeat itself again. There is no correct answer to both sides. All of us want peace but we also want our freedom.

    I think the reason why the Assassins and Templars will never be able to truly destroy one another is because they both represent a part of human nature - freedom and control. Freedom is precious and inspiring, yet without there being some order, that freedom can, as Arno said, quickly turn into fanatisicm and chaos. On the other hand, if we are to live in a strict world, where our freedom and our needs are squandered and ignored, then how can we enjoy life and the beauty of the world? As Arno said "All that we do, all that are - begins and ends with ourselves". I believe that the Assassin's Creed and the Templar Order are just pieces of a greater philosophy, or perhaps they were once one and the same, but somehow got split into 2 seperate factions, each taking half of an ideology. It's a very yin and yang situation, which makes me believe that the world needs both factions to balance one another out.

    Rembrandt van Rijn the whole point in the AC series is that it isn’t just today. All of the problems they raise, all of the fights that are had have been going on for millennia, and they recognise this. We also have to recognise it is unlikely to change, but should still hope that someday it will.

    the thing is that leftist lately rarely support "freedom". They also support unnecessary restrictions...... Its just as you have said. Fanatism dulled people free thinking. That they don't really know what they support. Everything starts from free thinking and imagination. Dogma and law stops it and creates tyranny.

    I’m assuming this is about American politics so if not ignore: the ironic thing is the left wing of American Politics is hardly left leaning at all, it’s center. Almost all other well developed nations see our political spectrum and teach about right wing and left wing of theirs and use both our main political parties as examples of right-wing politics. The vast majority of democrats are, on the grand scale, either center or right wing, while many republicans are either right-wing or hardcore right wing. True leftism, and I cannot stress this enough, *would be arguing that the people should revolt and take over the means of production themselves. It would be forcing companies to downsize, increase welfare tenfold of any democrat plan as it stands, structurally maintain equal class amongst most individuals, and mandate jobs. America is right wing through and through, our right wing is just extremist.*

  • @ianian4162

    @ianian4162

    @@skeetskeet7041 No, actually. Political "orientation" is relative to time and place. There is no objective measure of "right" or "left" because those categories are arbitrary social constructs. The "left" and "right" of America as just as valid because that is what corresponds to the country in question.

  • @skeetskeet7041

    @skeetskeet7041

    2 жыл бұрын

    @@ianian4162 simple fix: I’m talking about this in relation to most other developed countries. I’m not measuring American politics specifically on *America* alone, because anyone can do what you did and bottle neck any nation and say there are “left and right wings because it’s all relative” but ignore general trends and observations of the world around it. Also you have to ignore basic political theory and general ideologies that persist over time, such as seeking social change and progress vs maintaining social hierarchy, in order to make the claim that left and right wing politics change drastically enough depending on the time period that it warrants ignoring any political comparisons because they no longer function under similar ideals or beliefs, ie people who were right wing no longer believe in “social order” or the status quo. That’s a huge leap tbh and granted I’m probably reading far to into a surface level dismissal of a misinterpretation of my point: that there is no “left” in the us. Edit: before it’s brought up when I talk about leftism I’m talking about hard left-wing ideologies like Leninism, Marxism, Communism, so on so forth. Most left leaning Americans will definitely say they want these things, but more often than not what we talk about isn’t full on communism, it’s mostly something like Democratic-socialism, where we still have a mostly capitalist society but mitigate things via socialist practices in order to still maintain that consumer culture we’re very fond of in the states. Most people are very hesitant to go all in on left wing ideology because of how deeply rooted our society and systems are rooted in right-wing systems that it would upend a lot of aspects of day to day life during the shift in socio economic systems so people compromise and mix the two, aka “center.”

    I think the only issue I have with Unity's story is that it started and ended at the wrong parts of Arno's journey. We don't see him at the best time in his life. We see him when he's using the Assassins as a means to an end. He's loyal to Elise and her father first and foremost and doesn't become a true Assassin until after her death. Which I also love. I think he's a very interesting character. Which is why I would've loved to see him later on. Napoleon also doesn't get really big in history until later on and, judging by the ending of the game, I think Arno was definitely involved. And it was after he found his own vision of the Creed and already had the master Assassin robes, so there's this whole piece of Arno's story that we're missing out on.

The bigger the better. However, if it is a society based more on ideas than freedom it will turn into fanaticism. There will always be some form of order, but it can be better or worse order. Criminals also have their code of ethics and are able to sacrifice life for others.

    "Stay my blade from the flesh of the innocent. Hide in plain sight. Never compromise the Assassin Brotherhood." Unlike the Achilles' brotherhood, Shay respected the tenants more than the rest of the Assassins. It wasn't the fact that Shay misunderstood the tenants, it's because Achilles had perverted the code of the Brotherhood to try and play God, and Chevalier, Liam, Adewalle, and the others went right along with it. They berated, belittled, and literally assaulted Shay because he had the ability to question what Achilles was doing with the Precursor objects. And that is what Arno understands. Because just like every religion or cult, a creed can become dogma, and dogma can become fanaticism. Now, it's possible the Templars corrupted Shay, but he chose to join the Templars because unlike the Assassins, Haytham wasn't willing to put innocent lives in danger just to sate some delusion of grandeur the same way Achilles was.

    This speech should've marked the middle of the game and not the end. There would be so much to tell about Arno the moment he lost everything. Refounding the French Brotherhood from dust and becoming a real badass Assassin fighting for a new Era of Assassin's without the dogma and fanatism that leads him to lose everything he cared.

So what he says makes sense and it’s super deep… but it doesn’t hit as it could’ve, because HE isn’t the one who experienced this tragic lesson.

I understand now, not a grant of permission. The Creed is a warning. Ideals too easily give way to dogma. Dogma becomes fanaticism. No higher power sits in judgement of us. No supreme being watches to punish us for our sins. In the end, only we ourselves can guard against our obsessions. Only we can decide whether the road we walk carries too high a toll. We believe ourselves redeemers,avengers, saviours. We make war on those who oppose us, and they in turn make war on us. We dream of leaving our stamp upon the world...even as we give our lives in a conflict that will be recorded in no history book. All that we do, all that we are, begins and ends with ourselves..." the creed warns us the dangers of blind faith/fanaticism(nothing is true). some people can convince themselves theyre right, justifying their actions because they believe their ideals are good(like what bellec did, and germain). and if you cant guard against your obsessions or ideals, you will think that your ideals are true that you'll do anything even if your actions are wrong just to serve your beliefs(everything is permitted). by understanding the creed, we should be responsible of our actions and we shouldnt rely too much on rules or beliefs that we made because it isnt perfect

    Best part of the game along with the prologue until the moment Arno is made an Assasin. Then it starts to go downhill until Elise shows up again. I enjoyed the story in Unity despite how terribly they told it and so rushed it is but I should've enjoyed it more. It could've been great and it was just fine. I mean, this speech is a beautiful way to summarize what this saga is. And it also feels like the thematic conclusion to the more "grey" view of the Assasins-Templars conflict that was established in Assasins Creed 3 and Rogue. You could make this the end of the saga and not release more games and it'd be fitting.

    The game is based on the French Revolution, which resulted in the overthrow of the monarchy as well as the belief in God and the power of the church. Which is what Arno is referring to when he says that there is no god or supreme being to watch over us and that we should take action rather than waiting for some non-existent God to come and save us. You need to grow up in order to understand this. Modern democratic values such as Liberty, Equality and Fraternity stems from the French Revolution. Not from any scriptures.
