Henry Golding is a hitman fighting to survive in this action flick, which misses the target in spectacular and widely awful fashion that it flummoxed even Film Brain.

I hope the dude you bonded with stumbles across this video. And may I say your rage at how bad this movie was is actually very amusing.

Honestly, I was surprised by how much I was digging your breakdown of the premise which sounded like a fun John Wick & Bullet Train blend. Sad to hear how much of an unmitigated embarrassment it actually was in reality. The catalogs of the Writer & Director were so dire I guess it’s no surprise that budding & proven talent in the cast couldn’t breathe an ounce of life into a set up that, like you mentioned, seems to nearly be able to write itself. It genuinely sounds like a dreadful writers’ strike-like project despite preceding our current one 😂 Also the Jack & Jill mention has given me the urge to rewatch the Bad Movie Beatdown episode lol

Had the "joy" of seeing this at the cinema here in Vietnam about 4 to 6 weeks ago. Everything you say is absolutely correct. This was awful the CGI fireplace was baffling as someone who edits a little bit I just couldn't help but notice. It was also made even more noticeable by the fact they'd over feathered the mask when the actors and laptop passed in front of it so they'd disappear into this bright light. The whole film was a dumpster fire and my only entertainment was asking why at all of the insane choices made.

Golding was quite good in Monsoon from 2019 which was a genuinely solid performance in a small indie movie also this movie feels like a movie from 10 years ago that went straight to dvd or something millenium would put out like Criminal or Hunter Killer only cheaper

Even hearing you describe the flashback scene I thought “oh so Golding’s girlfriend is that girl grown up and she’s gonna be reveal as the mastermind” which. That would’ve actually been a decent plot twist? Why didn’t they do that?!?!

There is a lot of these types of movies with way over qualified actors made for VOD fodder [such as the infamous 'Geezer Teasers'] but this especially feels so out of date at this point with the 'Bourne style editing [which felt obsolete when Bourne itself was still using it with 2016's 'Jason Bourne'] and the tired stock clichés [especially everything with the girlfriend]. Thanks for suffering though this disaster for us [I actually had a similar experience to 24:38 recently with Creed 3 but with us both saying how much we enjoyed it instead!] and can't believe this was a theatrical release in the UK. I've really enjoyed your recent projector reviews.

The last time I saw Noomi Rapace was in What Happened to Monday, where she played septuplets, so I assume she just always plays roles where she has to switch between different wigs and costumes.

5:30 I don't feel remotely bad about Steven Seagal. But I do remember your Wesley Snipes run. That was...depressing. Where does all this funding come from? Is the entire B-movie action industry about separating fools from their money?

It is largely international markets, these do big business in export, especially as the dialogue is not essential.

@@FilmBrain I saw Hard Target for the first time just a few months ago. The dialogue...not exactly scintillating. But the action was good. John Woo and JCVD both working their asses off to show off their chops. That was a B+/A- budget movie thirty years ago. You didn't need a good script, just one that won't get in the way, sets up and supports a very basic plot and lets the action sell the movie. Modern day B-action movies feel like they want to be clever. Budget Nolans. And then they trip over their own plots, annoying the audience. Maybe modesty doesn't sell to investors anymore.

As those DVD movies and the 'geezer teasers' [such as the later Bruce Willis movies] show, there is certainly a market for audience's watch a film solely because a faded star is in it [especially in the 'streaming' era as it's still a 'watch' even if the viewer gives up after 10 minutes]. Liam Neeson is still cranking out action films, again mostly for streaming, even though 'Taken' is over 15 years old.

  • @jamesatkinsonja

@@andrewklang809 Action films were big business in the 80's+90's but that era has long passed as with streaming there is so much choice at the moment. John Wick is mostly about the action but has it's own 'world' and has been very successful with it's stylistic approach. There is also the opportunity to get further opportunities if you you show you have a style and talent rather than just churning out a standard action film [Liam Neeson is still churning out action films but they hardly stand out/get noticed now even when Bond alumni Martin Campbell directed one in 2022]. The John Wick team [Chad Stahelski and David Leitch] worked in the stunt world and made there directorial debuts with the first Wick film [Leitch uncredited] and both have had successful careers afterwards [Stahelski sticking with Wick, Leitch with Deadpool 2 etc.].

Only on theaters for a week? Even the Bratz live action movie stayed in theaters for 2 or 3 weeks 😔 I really wanted Henry Golding to be the next big star. What kind of roles is he being offered if he got stuck with this?

Often films which are 'direct to DVD/Streaming' in most markets get a short theatrical release in select country [for example-the abysmal 'Escape Plan 2' had a very limited UK cinema release almost a month after it came out on DVD in USA for some obscure reason].

If this isn't the worst film of the year for me, I will be genuinely amazed. Henry Golding deserved better than someone whose only character trait is that he eats Coco pops while listening to grime music. Sam Neil and Naomi Rapace's careers can survive this but maybe not Golding

Why the hell are we still defending the Bourne series and its terrible editing? I dont believe for a second that Greengrass "planned every single cut and shake" and it is insanely clear to people with eyes that Damon clearly cant perform the fights, so they're cutting around it. The Bourne film fight scenes really do make them not age well for me, along with the stories being so cliche to the point where i dont understand why people like them over Much better spy movies ala the bond series
