@@glnholler No, she is not. She has Caucasian features barely noticeable to your eyes because her "Filipino" physical traits seemed dominant. Most Filipinos are mixed genetically and I could see the confusion of most people. There is no such thing as a full blooded Filipino. It does not exist. Although the ethnic composition of most Filipinos come from the Austronesian speaking stock of the Indo Pacific there are other obvious traits mixed from foreign groups. I don't see any typical filipino look other than the low ridged, flat and wide nose which she does not have.

@@ArneRagnarsson Quite a few Filipinos are ignorant about these things. Filipinos for the most part cannot tell Filipinos apart other than the flat nose and their fake "white" complexion they chemical induced over their brown skin. In every island I have been Filipinos did not look physically the same. Filipinos seem to think to be an Asian with slant eyes represent Asia. When the "yellow skin, slant eyed" are groups of people located at certain regions of the continent of Asia. The Chinese, Japanese and Korean peoples hijacked the one look Asian identity which is very different from the majority of Asian races and cultures. There are Filipinos who idiotically think Filipino is also a race which is not one by any matrix. A Filipino is a political identity or a nationality from its sovereign structure hence it is an ethnicity which goes beyond physical appearance.

The way Hannah speaks, it’s a Filipino accent already. And also her features are very Pinay. Visited Sweden twice and I will say for the most part they are very welcoming but I visited in work capacity as a colleague. Outside of work in my two visits I did experience a bit of stereotypical treatment or was made to feel different. I think this would be the case in any country as a fish out of water, you kind of just stick out. For the record, I dont hold Swedish people by the racists they have. Swedish people overall are great! At least the ones I worked with. I did appreciate the non-gender bathrooms and the responsibility everyone has in cleaning up after themselves - We definitely need that here in the states.

About the Little Mermaid, the backlash is that, the story is not the story of Little Mermaid (disney cartoon). And it is a Western story by Hans Christian Andersen and the mermaid is depicted as white. If black people wanted a "mermaid" theme, they could have created a script of a black mermaid and the story is different. A good example for this is a Filipino version which is called "Dyesabel". It's about the mermaid people but the story is different.

@@jtlusong It didn't but there is past art about the story where mermaids are depicted as white. It is heavily implied due to it being a western story. Despite that, more of the backlash is on people having emotional connection to the original character. It's a small victory anyway. The more important thing is allowing more minorities to be able to write, produce and direct so that they can tell their own original stories. That's the thing they don't want to talk about.

Glutathione is not a whitening agent, basically. It is antioxidant that helps save your skin from getting G oxidized, thus, older and hyperpirmented. Glutathione is not assurance you will be 'whiter' as was implied by most ads.

I grew up with a red haired little mermaid, its as real to me as Mulan is Chinese, they should create new black character instead of changing existing characters.

It really is true.Provincial peeps tend to gravitate more on local artistas,unlike in Metropolitan Manila and Cebu..Although,..the "Masa" or commoners have grrreatly embraced Korean K-Pop as well..which resulted to a very dismal following on other local talents.

I am half Chinese-Filipino. Just to inform you that not all Chinese,Japanese,Koreans,Vietnamese have slanted eyes. I have "big brown CHINKY EYES" Most Southeast Asians with Chinese ,Japanese ,Koreans and Vietnamese roots have chinky eyes. Many Filipinos have chinky eyes even without Chinese,etc.ancestors.

I take it as a form of allyship towards moreno or indigenous Filipinos. to me, it is fine for white or light-skinned Filipinos (and white people in general) to use the benefits of their privileges if they are actively leveraging it in support of brown, moreno or indigenous Filipinos, and not just reinforcing the colonial dynamic. it is important for white or light-skinned people to call out when there is an unfair bias in favor of them. This puts a mirror on our society and asks us to challenge colonization, both imposed on us, and as you all said, internalized by us from centuries of conditioning.

How is she actively leveraging her 'white' privilege in support of Moreno and/or indigenous people? The fact that she was transparent about her having more opportunities in the Philippines because she is half white is quite telling. Nothing wrong in trying to take that advantage, but she's actually taking space from the 'darker' Filipinos. And frankly, she continues to enable the entertainment industry to habitually continuously favor the halfies and light skinned Filipinos.

Not true, many Filipinos are racists. They discriminates people of color, like aetas, badjao. Many people in Manila make fun of the provincial accents and intonation, as if Tagalog is the only language in the Philippines. One time I heard a lady called out a mother and son talking in Bisaya, she told them to speak in Tagalog "because you are in Manila". As a Bicolano native, I reprimanded the lady. "they are not talking with you, don't impose your language to other Filipinos".

If you know tagalog( the basis of pilipino one of the 2 official languages in the Philippines) you will be understood from Batanes to Sulu unlike other Philippine dialect because it is taught in elementary up to high school.

people from many cultures have eaten or continue to eat dogs. many European cultures like parts of Switzerland, the UK, France and Germany have eaten and continue to eat dogs. being a “dog-eater” is just used on Asians to dehumanize us and be racist towards us I understand it is deplorable to eat dogs because of their developed (and bred) relationships to humans - I couldn’t do it either. however, we judge this as if we don’t take lives by eating cows, pigs and other animals. we as a society in general need to be better exposed to “livestock” and see them as living animals rather than to only see cooked & served meat with no origin from living beings

Thank you for bringing up the topic of having white skin or being WHITE being superior than anything else in the eyes of the general public. Because Spain had a prolonged colonization period of more than 300 years in the Philippines, which was not a favorable history, it was when my forefathers held the belief. Then another predominantly white superpower-this time, the United States-colonized us, followed by the militarily potent Japanese who have a fairer skin tone. Filipinos are hooked to bleaching since white people bullied us up until the Japanese occupation of the country. As a result of western culture's dominance in music, show business, modeling, etc., Filipinos desire to appear white in order to overcome their inferiority complex.

If you look at the overall picture in the wholeness of someone trying to get in the entertainment industry, Hannah, the half Swedish will have problems; it's very obvious, she's putting too much on her being half. She experienced some negative in Sweden back and now she thinks she will have a better chance using her half white looks. She's already shows some s. complex the way she talks. Some things you need to keep to yourself; focus more on the positive; excell on your line or chosen career.

Gotta make it clear viva artist and viva max are completely different genre

The guard acting differently is not due to ethnicity but economic social status.

Which can be related to the skin color. From what we’ve experienced, some Filipinos believe the fairer the skin color, the higher the economical social status. Of course this is not true for all cases, but it has happened a lot from our experience

Not all go for whitening here in the philippines some wants to be more morena it depends since we are surrounded by wsters ad going to beaches often naturally go back to being more morena even for a lighter color

In Europe you can't even find whitening products, there you will buy tanning sprays/lotions or even go to a solarium, lay down in a sun bed to get a tan. Not our purpose to offend anyone, we are just speaking about what we see and experience. Being morena is beautiful! Every skin color is beautiful

Europeans want to look darker because it is a social thing. The contrary is the same in africa, asia and pacific. Not sure in the americas.

In USA , I lived there for many years, I have never heard from American people that Asean eating dog. People in USA are more humanitarian, and I guess it is more better to live in USA than other European countries . In the entertainment industry in the Philippines, they looked at your physical appearance as your passport rather than talent.

It's interesting how she speaks of being half Sweden and how she is aware of her privilege. And turn around and say that she had an opportunity in the Philippines because she did not use her 'privilege'. Has she done any international projects that would initiate a manager to approach her to offer her a contract? IDK, she did say she wanted to be an artist in the Philippines and most likely she looked for an agent/manager to help her navigate the entertainment business in the Philippines. TBH she doesn't even look mix. I suspect that she makes a point she is half Sweden and by doing that she has used her privilege. She's full of herself.

I don't think the guards or anyone would be super rude to locals. Filipinos in general are nice people. I don't look like a typical Filipina but I don't see others who do being treated rudely by guards or anyone.

All in all, this was a good interview. This is not to invalidate Hanna's experience, but generally speaking, Swedes are not racist. Quite the contrary, Sweden is known to be one of the most progressive countries on the planet. Also, Swedish men have been marrying Thai women in droves. If they were truly prejudiced against Asians, they wouldn't be wifing them up. And regarding that quip about eating dogs- personally, I don't take offense when people joke about stereotypes because, for the most part, they're based on actual truths. I've found that it's best to have a wry sense of humor about it. So when asked, "Are you going to eat my dog?" you could respond with, "No, he's too skinny" or feigning outrage, "Of course not! I only eat cats."

I look exactly like my dad, just not the dark features. That I got from my mom, but otherwise I look more like my dad. 5:31 the mail-order bride system, red light districts, and sex tourism - these things do happen, and are rampant in the Philippines. they developed because of US military bases. the Filipina wife and white husband dynamic isn’t, as some people you met in Sweden seem to imply, because the Philippines is a second-rate place to find a wife when white men can’t do so in their own nation. the larger societal factor is the colonial relations that continue to force the Filipino people into poverty, and the continued imposition of western values & culture, while erasing Philippine history & culture - crippling Filipino self worth and depleting Filipino knowledge of self determination yes, it is important for each person to choose who they love; that should always be primary. but it is important to be aware of societal and intergenerational factors that affect our decisions. no matter how much colonization imposes or implies it, I would never believe we are a lesser people. in fact, there is so much more to our culture and history that we are yet to tap into.

It seems to me colonialism being brought up now is just whining. If people in former colonies really believe that colonialism was pure evil, they should reject anything western. Reject movies, songs etc. Even reject religion which was brought over by colonial masters. But no, you will find lots of people from former colonies migrating to the country of their oppressors. What message does that convey? I hate you oppressors but I like your system so am going there and then complain about racism while enjoying the benefits of a developed country. Hypocrisy at its worst.

@@BigD481 you are conflating a lot of concepts in your statement. first of all, though many movies, songs, and other different products in culture, arts, religion, technology, come from western countries, does not mean that those were purely western inventions. for example concepts of algebra, libraries, bread, and string instruments like the guitar came from the Arabic world, were developed by cultures from all over the world, and are now prevalent in western societies. even Jesus is from Palestine or Western Asia, and his gospels were used for the purposes of the Roman Catholics who amassed stolen wealth through the religion they created based on Jesus centuries after his existence. the English language itself has a massive amount of words it adopted from other languages, which is why it has many grammatical inconsistencies. saying certain items of culture, technology, etc are western is erasing the multicultural history and labor that made those items exist in the first place. you’re the one who is thinking I am calling the western world evil. I am simply talking about the current - not former - current, colonial dynamic that exists in many countries around the world like the Philippines. for example, if you study laws like the Labor Export Policy, you’ll find out that Marcos, a US corporate puppet, pushed a policy that reshaped our educational and labor infrastructure so that rather than being able to own means of labor, Filipinos are dependent on working overseas at much below first world country labor standards, which subjects them to abuse overseas, and too often death. the companies they work in are profiting from the lower wages, greater exploitation and lower labor standards. I’m sure many Filipinos would be happy to come back to the Philippines if the economy was well enough to support their families. in order for the economy to be well, more everyday people, not multinational corporate monopolies, will need to own the means of production. meaning the multi-billion dollar large scale mining, oil, logging, agricultural, tourism, and many other types of companies across the many fields need to be locally owned for the benefit of the Filipino people, and not destroying the environment, and not committing human rights abuses.

OMG, I understand now you are a Socialist and that explains all of this. Let’s put Economics aside for that’s a long topic and would take a lot of time that am willing to spend on this topic. First of all the interview is flawed and hosts are just willing to take her statements without clarifying whether the derogatory comments she received happened on a daily basis or happened a few times and once the query was answered, the topic ended. What i disagreed about was the immediate claim to victimhood which is essentially what the woke culture has been doing in the US and some countries are starting to adopt. While I agree with the premise , making it a priority has some unintended consequences. But lets leave the US out of this for a moment. And concentrate on colonialism. So like the woke crowd you want Filipinos to blame our former colonizers for our country’s problems, more than a hundred years after Spain was kicked out and more than 70 years after the US gave it up. Oh yeah, let’s play victim. Maybe that’s why we continue to be this way and Japan is well Japan. And oh by the way , Lapu Lapu and his crew didn’t sail all the way to Palestine and say, cool nice religion, nope it was brought over by our oppresive colonizers. Which is why, just about all of South America. Christianity in Asia and America has a western component. Let’s tackle the colonization of North America which the woke crowd insists of giving the former colonists the guilt trip. First of all, without that there would be no US and without the US, the whole of Europe would be goose stepping to the German National anthem and all of Asia would be speaking Japanese. @@BigD481 your arguments are devoid of logic and reason, and you think it helps your cause to stigmatize labels you probably know nothing about. the hosts are interviewers, not interrogators. if someone says they have a particular experience with a topic, interviewers converse with their guest about it, not grill the person and question whether they’re lying or not. just because the person had some negative experiences does not mean she is making herself a victim. when it comes to colonization, it is possible to address the actions of a person, of people, of certain “leaders”, of a nation, while not being against them as a whole. meaning it is possible to be against a country’s genocidal behavior, and not against the country’s people. you can still have relations with people from the US and other western countries. you can still befriend them, trade with them, exchange culture, etc, and not be an apologist for using Christianity to colonize and erase peoples’ original cultures, spirituality, languages, etc. you don’t need to be an apologist for the genocide of tens of millions of Indigenous Americans. yes, the USSR and the US allied against German and Japanese fascism, which is to be applauded. but these heroic acts do not justify their own fascist or genocidal behavior. you can appreciate the US allying against the axis powers, while also being upset about them dropping atomic bombs on innocent people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Whitening product is not an issue of racism its a choice for wanting the product, does the product represent the country, that most of pinoy wanted to become whiter skin, its a big no! Its a person choice not by majority of the people, black or white skin in the country is not matter to us, its a persons insecurity in psychology

Yea i got asked here too if I eat dog 😅 blame the news guys. I noticed that sweden's news about Philippines are all just about the negatives, hence people here thinks Philippines is just about crimes, poverty, and all the other dark shades. Hope they try to show the bright side so there's a contrast. Everytime my swedish husband says "you know i heard something on the news about your country today" and I already know it's something bad as always. The sad thing about this is, the news shapes how people here think of the Philippines. But they cannot just take 1 bad occasion as a daily happening. Like those police officers who murdered a korean daw, binalita ng asawa ko sakin. And I said that is just 1 case. There are no several cases like that. And the polices who committed the crime are now in jail its not like they are walking around freely. So our justice system is pretty much working.

Just a comment about Filipinos using the "N" word. The word "negro" literally means black in Spanish and it's interchangeable with "itim". My friends and I would say negro in a descriptive way as opposed to derogatory. But I get that it's not polite. btw there are aboriginal people who live in some areas called Negritos who are similar to those who live in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Hi Eve. The national language in Sweden is Swedish. Hanna’s mother-tongue or native language is Swedish and her second language is English. “Like” is used a filler by people who are thinking of the next thing to say, which we use in our videos as well 😅 (we need to work on that for sure). For someone who is bilingual (Swedish & English) and working on her third language (Tagalog), we think Hanna’s English is great!

Filipinos used to eat dog in the 90s but it stopped and dog meat was banned for consumption… I heard Swedish people are really smart but I think they’re generalizing from old stereotypes that are not practiced anymore… maybe they were just thrown off by it because dogs are such friendly creatures.

Is that really the way Swedish people treat foreigners and people of mixed heritage? Be very sure. And of course, this lady is admired in the country, a country that very much favor those with white / fair skin that is why she is an aspiring model. White privilege she addressed..hmmm. Filipinos should stop glorifying people of fair skin.

Well, about the mermaid thing. who invented or at least conceptualize mermaids? Isn't it those Europeans or Westerners right? So what do you expect what they would make mermaids look like? Of course it will be look like them. right? That is just being me as the main character of my own story, was it wrong? For me? No! Now, if we wanna have an Asian mermaid or a black mermaid, then we create our own story or conceptualized something. It's like Adobo, for Filipinos it's better with rice. Now if you don't eat rice and you only eat bread, don't ask me to make an Adobo for your bread and shout "what about your representation". I mean, come on? Learn how to cook Adobo and cook it specialized for you bread. Right?

She just doesn't pass the 'standard' when it comes to Pinay actresses (especially for lead roles)- slim and with beautiful facial features. I haven't watched TV for the past 17 years so the only way for me to see new Pinay actresses is through reading gossip sites. I guess I'm used to seeing actors with strong, very pretty "tisay" or mestiza face like Liza Soberano, Kristine Hermosa, Gretchen Barreto, among others. But if she's able to enter PH showbiz then good for her.
