I have a driveway that used to be gravel. Our street was paved a few years ago. The contractors let us sweep the pavement dust up after the street was ground. It made it look paved, but never got that hard. We added bagged asphalt & took diesel fuel to the mix. After 3 weeks in the summer, it melted down & hardened great. I tried blacktop sealer over it. It kept cracking up. I came up with a homemade mix that seems to work. I mixed 1/2 gallon of blackjack roofing & foundation sealer to 4.7 gallons of blackjack 300 sealer. It turned out nice & seems to work well. Bought at Lowe's locally.

@Ricky Martin It's doing good. Finally got like regular asphalt.

Aquaphalt with vibrator plate with Black Jack 700 or 1000. These things made my huge horseshoe driveway look like a pro did it thus saving me over $3,000 in my driveway repair and sealer.

I have used the Latex Ite Airport grade sealer. It lasts two years at best and is only sufficient with a driveway that is still in good shape with only minor cracking.

Well I was going to ask a question about my driveway but I see a ton of questions in here with no answer... Well I will ask anyway and hope for the best lol. I have an old unkept asphalt driveway that needs holes and cracks filled along with portions that need to be extended outwards to level with 2 pillars at my entrance so that I can put up a gate. Would any of these work for something like that or should I look at hiring professionals?

I had 4 tire indents from a parked car on side of main drivway, company wanted to charge $700 in 2020 to cut out 3x3 ft spots and put new asphalt in. No sir, why do I want you to rip out already hardened asphalt, put new in so it can sink in a few years. I spread sealcoat down and put the right amount of (2) $12 bag asphalt filler, flattened it out with a little above surface, immediately slopped sealcoat all over and around creating 4 round spots where car tires were, after 3 days staying off it, in the summer, by the way, was and has been great for 2 years now and I did it perfectly so when I'm snow shoveling, it doesn't catch shovel, So in short, no need to wait to apply sealcoat.

Can I make a Small curb or bumps using the Gardner Max 10? im trying to make an easy removable driveway-curb filler that is small and compact.

Is there anything that you could put in the bottom of a pothole that would help bond the cold mix to it? We are having trouble with the patches that we are doing only lasting one year

Here in south Africa we call it "crack sealing", a blend of hot bitumen and additive that you pour into the crack, after blowing it clean and applying emulsion to it

Like you, I'm a bit of a novice, but I'm in a similar situation as you... it seems these products come in three consistencies... 1. Standard liquid tar for covering and protecting whole driveways... can also be used to spot fill really small cracks. 2. A spackle-like "patching compound" that can be used with a trowel to fill in small cracks and holes 3. Your standard "cold patch" for big potholes and leveling those indents you speak of. Obviously you'd start with the cold patch for the big areas, then the patching compound for the little cracks and holes... let it dry overnight, then tar the whole damn thing the next day. That's MY plan anyway. My driveway is about 90 feet long and two cars wide... wish me luck, lol.

Used all these types of products in the past on drive way in New England. All about the same. Looks good for about a year or so and then cracks open up again as wells as patched holes. Cheap temporary fix. Eventually I'll have to dig out existing 20 yo asphalt driveway and install a new one.

I think it had to be a hot patch so it adheres which means a professional torch heats up both surfaces for adherence; all these products are cold patch and don’t adhere well as a result

I wish I could show pics from 2 years ago, fiilled 4 big car indents, layed down ample sealcoat first, spread (2) $12 cold patch bags on, smooth to right contour, sloppped more sealcoat on immediately and let it dry for 3 days. Still hard and perfect.

Ah, yes. Asphalt is smooth. I learned something today. It is also dark in color.

The 10 stands for the 10 year warranty. I like to redo mine every 6 years for the dark glossy look and because the tire tracks of daily wear are visible.

I used one bucket of Aquaphalt 6.0 to patch a 5-inch depression that was on its way to becoming a pothole. I wanted to avoid tapering the Aquaphalt too much at the edge, so. First, I used an angle grinder with a stone cutting blade to create cut a 3/4 inch deep perimeter around the depression, roughly two feet in diameter from the center. I used the grinder to cross-hatch some of the old asphalt on the inside edge of the circle as well. Then I used a stone chisel to chip out some of the cross-hatched asphalt at the edge to ensure it deep enough for the Aquaphalt. Then I spread out the Aquaphalt, tamped it, added water and tamped it down again. It worked totally great. The Aquaphalt material is every bit as strong as the original asphalt.

The latex-ite smells like manure, and watery than most.

Do what contractors do, buy straight from the manufacturer, The local SealMaster store. Better than these home improvement store products, although the Aquaphalt is good.

None of these are a complete solution and won’t last a fraction as long as if you get it done right by the DOT. Asphalt is insanely complex and depends on hundreds of variables of your location. As a Civil Engineer I wouldn’t waste my money on any of these

Aquaphalt is widely used on interstates in Ohio by ODOT and The Ohio Turnpike with great success.

There were still cracks in it at the end.
