    One of the main benefits of a baton is probably the psychological deterrent effect. Pepper spray or Taser are likely more effective and easier, but drawing and expanding the baton can deter and intimidate someone acting in a threatening manner, and possibly de-escalate.

  • @Damienjking

    I think he makes good points about the hands. Reality is not like the movies, unless someone is really whacked out on certain drugs, a small amount of pain can really destroy a suspect’s will to fight. The amount of pain inflicted with a hand strike would be devastating, debilitating and would knock the fight out of the overwhelming majority of aggressors. He also makes a great point about stopping to reassess once you have landed some strikes. It’s easy to get caught up in the adrenaline of an altercation so it takes discipline and training to throttle back and avoid getting overzealous.

    Great video. Good explanation of what’s acceptable. What we are aiming for in self defence. Like a knife as a self defence tool is a way of self defence but no one wins in a knife fight. You will both end up seriously injuring each other. The baton is an ideal alternative. And if someone pulls a knife on you, the baton is such a great way to keep them at a distance and or disarm them. And the Technique. Interesting that you draw it upward over your shoulder? Most other videos tell you to draw it parallel with your leg. But your way, it’s in position straight from the off. The Creating of space. The verbal warning before . Aim for Extremities rather than potentially lethal points of contact. Which could result in death or GBH. Which in self defence is not what we are aiming for. Justifiable force. Giving the assailant who is trying it on, after giving them an indication of what can be done if he wishes to continue. Then stopping and not going to town on them to give them a chance to make up their minds if what they thought was a good idea, is such a good idea any longer. And also the verbal commands of step off or back the f**k up! Being able to create the space and opportunity for you to take control of the situation or run and get out the situation. Such a good tool for self defence. And well explained. I don’t need to go on. But great video. Thanks

    To start, I'm an avid cyclist and commute to work and home with college in the future. I had a confrontation with a tattooed black guy who drove in a white sedan. I can't hear so I was under the assumption that I had to get off the road or else. He stopped his vehicle, rummaged through his glove compartment, under the passenger's front seat, on top of it, behind the front seats, in the passenger's back side for a weapon. That's what I gleaned from his actions. He planned to strong arm or intimidate me. I have a feeling he may come back to assert his authority (which frankly is none). He is not a police officer, neither does he work in a lawful capacity. My city ordinance required that my bicycle, which is over 20" wide, is to be ridden on the road to the rightmost as practicible to the curb. I was stopped shortly before the stoplight where this confrontation could have escalated. He didn't get out of his vehicle but I was ready to fight. The guy was stronger than me so I don't know if I would succeed in this fight; after some careful thinking, I came to this conclusion I needed to be aware of self-defense laws and how it applies to me as a civilian. Buying, obtaining, and then training with the steel baton, along with a concealable legal knife, would help further my improvement in self defense. I am by no means faster, quicker, agile. I'm 40, weight 236 pounds, but I'm trying to lose weight. What I am looking for is to first demand that the aggressor step the f*ck back and get his ass into the vehicle. If it fails, I would then apply intimidating force by revealing my baton readied for use. If that fails, then I would apply techniques from what I see on this video and use it to inflict pain. If the aggressor doesn't back out or de-escalate the situation by fleeing, I'm forced to continue battering pain. If that does not work, then I will resort to brute force where I will break the bones that have less meat on them: the shins, or the arms. I am not intending to kill the guy. My intention is to force the guy to step back or flee (which is the best option) and rethink his life. But in the event that I'm about to continue whaling on this guy with the baton because he would not acknowledge my verbal commands to stay down, hands on his head and legs up interlocked, so be it. I hope police will come by and be satisfied the guy is on the ground, sobbing with his hands on his head and legs interlocked waiting to be arrested for the crime of harming, or intending bodily harm, to a civilian cyclist who did nothing toward this guy. Thank you for reading and I hope the ASP techniques and others will be easily found and practiced.

    The proper boxing stance is best. Bad info here. If a person doesn't have boxing fundamentals he/she should not carry such weapons as they will be taken and used against them in most cases. The baton is for trained individuals who sometimes might be out weighed or lacking reach. If you're untrained and timid, go get training first

I give me a baton or brass knuckles and i could kill even a bear. but i think a weapon like a machete can be lethal in the hands of any person imo.

    I think what I like about stick fighting arts is that there are so many interpretations on how a stick should be handled. I am by no means a professional but what you said makes sense. In my personal opinion, if a subject were to disarm you, you would either keep your weapon in front of you loaded or move your hand out of the way and hit back with the same weapon. Moving your hand out of the way is a simple maneuver. If you want a reference of how it works look up "escrima hand hunting".

    First thing i'm looking at is that elbow,waiting for it to strike. Catch that pommel or under forearm and fist in kind of a web hand upward thrust,pushing the asptip to his shoulder. Right after you front stomp his thigh right above knee. (paying attention to see if he instantly tries to release asp to go for service pistol,kind of rare). Either way, it's all too late. as his body lunges forward from his strong leg pushed back,I personally take a knife I would remove from my lower back with my right hand almost at the same time i stomped his strong arm side thigh,I can either choose to incarcerate from under body armor. If duty belt and body armor are cumbersome looking and blocking the lower gastric area(detail these things upon arrival),strike under jawline in thru sinus cavity. The officer always presents the attack option first. always maintain a close proximity. The closer you are,the more control you have against medium to long range weapons. Police officers(all over the world) rely on those style weapons as first response.

    We're trained for the exact situation you described. It ends with you getting your teeth knocked in and knocked unconscious with the tip of the baton by an upward strike. Also, you've just turned an encounter into a use of deadly force justification. That means if you're unlucky enough not to have been put to sleep by my upward strike, and you're just in la-la land. I'm stepping back, putting my baton back in it's scabbard like a sword which they're designed to do. Then I'm going to proceed to pull out my firearm and end that deadly threat. Meaning I'm going to shoot until you're on the ground. Then I'll radio for EMS, and go grab my first aid kit and attempt to save your dumbass life. Cause that's what we do.

    Why don't any of these baton videos show the baton being used as you would a sword. There are no thrusting techniques shown. It's like a boxer only using roundhouse punches and no jabs. In a real fight, you could keep farther away from your opponent's weapon by thrusting to the face, eyes and solar plexus. Jabs with the baton could also open up other opportunities to use those roundhouse strikes.

  • @busybird7149

    @busybird7149

    Mystery47 well, I'm no expert on this, but I'd assume it'd be because of the risk of the baton closing. I think your average attacker is too rigid and the human body is too firm overall to have the baton stay open after a jab. I feel like maybe a disc-lock would have a better go at that than a friction-lock, but I'll say it again, I'm not an expert.

  • @Leadfoot_P71

    @Leadfoot_P71

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah it's true. I like to use the baton to jab with to keep people back, especially if they're not really aggressive, just drunk, annoying and refusing to comply. Jabbing the solar plexus or ribs makes most people comply, or stop advancing I find, plus I can control the distance better than if I swing it, so it's defo a good technique. I've tried to jab with the ASP and it would often collapse. A disc-lock is much better for that. The only disadvantage really to jabbing is that it's easier for the suspect to grab your baton. It's no problem though if you're prepared for it.

  • @benjaminbeltran7004

    @benjaminbeltran7004

    Because the baton is a completely radically different weapon. Why the hell would you even thrust with it. Not even all swords are good thrusting weapons either btw. Also with a direct jab you have less force on the strike and the opponent could grab your baton and disarm you or pull you in.

    Although good in theory, this mostly seems unrealistic and ineffective, except maybe for poorly armed security guards. This would be only even be theoretically useful against a completely unarmed suspect. A taser and pepper spray are both far better at creating distance between yourself and an aggressive individual. Using this baton means getting essentially within arms reach, and with someone who is committed to an attack, the fight is likely not going to be a boxing match where you have a baton and the other person is punching. It's going to be a confused mess; you'll drop the baton and they might even use it against you.

    So if law enforcement gets this training why do they abuse their judgement everyday for unnecessary use of force. I'm just watching this to learn what's behind their fearful minds. All I learned is training tells you don't but the badge tells them something completely different.

    Im here for the same reason as you. Personally I believe that a vast majority of police today transition in from the military. Its not about fear as much as this is how they are taught and programmed. When someone with a combat background comes into an armed conflict on the streets it inevitable their going to fall back on the put the threat down and that often means using their sidearm.

    nope. if you don't have much energy, target the head with one exact precision. Then you don't have to waste your energy any more. Believe or not you will consume a lot of your energy while fighting so you have to target one effective part. targeting non-effective part of enemy's body might cause for enemy to trigger his secret weapon obviously he prepared for his crime. I know my reply is a little aggressive, but you should know that fighting with a random criminal is not joke. Don't listen all the things what makes you weak, when it is started only the winner survives. One last thing, throw away the baton just before the police arrives. Then tell the police officer, you used some sort of stick on the street. You know police is a human being, he may know you talking about a lie, but he is not gonna interrogate you about it if possible.

    Striking to the head is deadly force just like the cop shooting someone.

    I agree with Edogriff, at least here in Wisconsin if you strike to the head it is considered deadly force. And if the assailant isn't threatening you with a knife or gun, you could get put away for murder. If you strike to the head, be prepared to prove in court that the assailant was threatening your life. Also, lying about what happened and disposing of the weapon is definitely not going to help your case in court. If you strike for the head then the police will investigate the event as if it were a murder or attempted murder, which means the area will be searched and witnesses will be sought out. They will find your baton, and you'll have to explain to a jury why you threw it away and lied to the policeman about it. Other states and countries might have different procedures but here in Wisco that's how it is.

    That is 100% using deadly force it would be the same as using a firearm but if you use the firearm it's easier to justify in court

    The risk of giving someone a brain injury or killing them makes this a really bad idea if you care at all about the welfare of the people you're dealing with.

    Never cross draw and never open like that in front of your face! ALWAYS Gun side away and stop turning your head. Don't strike on the horizon unless you want to lose your teeth. Wrong targets for the strikes. Clavicle ... no! Overall you need to do better on this. Maybe take an ASP Instructor's class

    ASP are a joke. A punch to the jaw is the best way of dropping an attacker at that range if all less lethal options fail. . An ASP to the dome is considered deadly force so that's pointless and might as well b**st them at hand to hand range. . PTL in Philly lost a fight w/ PCP npc and got beat with his own ASP
