I know that game isn't going for realism, but when your trigger group is quite literally blocking the path of the bolt carrier, and your magazine is at an angle so great feeding ammo is impossible, kinda breaks the immersion.

    Honestly, I still think the M1 en bloc system is the best of both worlds. Speed of a detachable magazine reload with an internal and more reliable magazine. Plus the weight reduction from not having to carry all the extra mags. Only 2 real issues are the open action design necessary for such a system and the capacity limitations.

  • @cantbanme792

    @cantbanme792

    3 жыл бұрын

    the idea with mags is they are higher capacity, and can be fed with strips if needed. youd need to thumb in maybe 6 clips to get your average 30 round magazine full, just far quicker to change magazines at that point, theyre easier to pull out of webbing too, rather than fiddling with 6 clips in your ammo belt, you just whip out one magazine and slap it in. magazines are still generally reloaded with clips though.

    Bullets have gotten smaller as time went on. Given how only well trained soldiers can pull off rapid, accurate fire with bolt action rifles (an example being the British Expeditionary Force), bullets were probably big back then to ensure that you would kill what you hit with your slow firing rifle. That and typical engagement distances weren't very well established until WWII happened and people found out "even if the rifle/bullet works out to 800m or more, soldiers out of basic training dont tend to shoot that far anyways" since post WWII nations gradually moves onto intermediate cartridges (though this was a slow process, the M14 was still in use in vietnam after all and the M16 didnt exactly have a great debut)

    @@bruce2655 can confirm, I have a 1939 Battlefield Pick up Mosin-Nagant. Some poor farmer turned Red Army soldier is looking down with disdain, that I, the dirty capitalist, owns his somehow still functional garbage rod.

    Beautiful video. They are all great in their own way. Great video, I hope you enjoy those pieces of history every day! Only thing is that as much as I love the Garand it always gives me a cringe to feel the urgency to get your thumb out of the way. I could feel you feeling that urgency as you loaded it that clip or maybe it was just me. Thanks for the awesome vids.

    Their vigilance and proficiency with those rifles prevented three invasions in World War Two. Twice the Germans backed down, and in 1944 the Americans were dissuaded from taking the short cut through Switzerland into Germany.

    They trained with them but never fought wars, the Swiss tend to be a contentious people who take care of things and do proper maintenance plus they build things well so their surplus is usually really nice.

    For the age these guns were made, they can sure handle a rough reload. So very nice.
