Ohhh the old butter menthol... "but miss! I have a cold." Every kid used this as an excuse. These were deadset lollies. The "butter" didn't do anything which is why no doctor prescribes to suck on a stick of butter if you're sick.

When I was a kid my grandmother used to sing little nursery rhymes to my brothers and I, she couldn't really carry a tune but I remember her quiet, whispery voice and the songs she would do late at night. She's been gone just under a year, and I'm in my 30s so it's been 25 plus years since I heard one of her lullabies, but the tone and cadence of your voice brings some of those nicer memories back. Absolutely love the packaging. The simple plaid and orange design somehow reminds me of being a kid in the 1990's, watching commercials or looking at stuff in the aisles of department stores that have long since vanished (e.g. Caldor)... Really takes me back.

I finally ordered these and WOW! There is nothing available in the US that even compare. The buttery taste is so much better than anything I have ever tasted. Perfect for a sore throat. So worth it! I ordered from Amazon.

we have soothers in the North of Ireland, they're made by Halls not Nestle tho, ours come in a long packet (also individually wrapped) and are more of an oval shape with a fruity liquid center, one of the best things about having a sore throat was getting an excuse to buy them - the peach & raspberry flavour is the best one 👌 they also come in blackcurrant, cherry, honey & lemon, strawberry, and menthol-eucalyptus (which come in a square shape like the butter-menthols 😊)

The only "active" ingrédient would be menthol (the feeble vit.C amount is really useless and "butter" only exists in the title, anyway butter doesn't cure sore throat!).

It's definitely a word I've heard living in the use but only on like... packages. I don't really hear people say it. How often its used compared to cough drop might vary with regional dialect

Soothers was not an Australian company bought out by Nestle. It is a brand of cough drops originally made by the British company "Halls", which is now subsequently owned by Mondelez International. Nestle must have bought the rights to use the brand name in Australia and New Zealand.
