I played for a bit a couple of years ago, came back deleted my character (low lvl) and went to start a new one. Can't create a character on an EU server at all. Everyone is full, shit is crazy lol. I can get into NA servers but don't want to due to how story heavy it is, don't want too have to go back and do it again.

And the thing is... i'm now in that quest-line between ARR and HW, and even though it's REALLY long and a lot of it is just the theoretically tedious "A sends you to talk to B so that B can send you back to A before you have to report to C"-type of quest, NONE of it feels like a slog or remotely annoying.

@@arcadistorias3202 I think it's mainly that it does a great job of delivering its story. And the story is a) good and b)matters. Like, just an hour ago i had actual tears in my eyes when Urianger mourned Moenbryda, a character i've only met like... two hours of questing ago. It's not like in WoW, where especially in the older areas, the story is really disjointed (or at least feels so), a lot of it feels really irrelevant or underwhelming even when important stuff happens, delivery/presentation varies greatly (and yeah, i have heard that ARR is supposed to be lacking in that regard as well compared to HR and onwards, but honestly, it still feels pretty decent) and a shitton of characters are completely underdeveloped and wasted (i still hate how they treated Yrel both during WoD, "her" add-on and especially Legion), not even mentioning the fact how they keep f'ing up their story. And worst of all, none of it matters anyway, because what feels like 95% just want to reach max-level as fast as possible anyways.

@@shadowcat1606 yeah. Wow does have decent leveling stories, but the patches are pretty hollow and disjointed. Which is bad mainly because they end their leveling stories on big cliffhangers. FF14's expansion stories even without patches are contained, you don't feel like your missing out on something big. That's another reason why shadowbringers won awards. It felt like a real entry into a final fantasy with a beginning middle and end. The patches were just great on their own, but the base game story was a seriously good game title.

21:30 it’s hair movement and textures in general even for humanoid characters. The engine has to process every strand of hair/fur and how if reacts when they move around, collide or wind moving it around. The most big one I know of was when the tomb raider game released years ago and if enable hair physics the FPS would drop drastically unless you got a beast pc to handle it.

Not really, most games use hair cards, (planes with hair textures), the physics are made with bones most of the time (so it consumes the same as any other type of physics) square has its own physics engine that manages to make the hair move as incredible as in ff7 remake, but they really only use a couple of bones (in many cases clothes have more bones), all the wind stuff is faked. To this day the physics of square do not consume anything, and the hair in the final fantasy games is still done as it was done on ps2 only with better textures and shaders.

As for the collisions they are not perfect, since they use spheres or other types of simple shapes instead of the original model, that is, to calculate the collisions of the head they use two spheres trying to achieve the shape of the skull and jaw (basically they simplify the body and the head with spheres since it is easier to calculate). What you mentioned about rendering each strand and calculating the movement of each hair has to do with the CGI, but in those cases the physics are usually “baked” since they cannot be reproduced in real time, in many cases they take hours to calculate physics, even with the best computers. And well, for rendering stuff in CGi each frame can take hours xD

if someone is wondering why there are so few armor with capes in the game (pre-stormblood) , it's because capes would bring havoc on the framerate of the ps3 version of the game,as they got rid of the ps3 version with stormblood ,the started adding some armor with capes (look at the af3 for the paladin for an example)

Honestly i always enjoy asmon but just seeing him so happy as of late and just having a more upbeat vibe going on has been so satisfying!

It's crazy for me to think that many people's first exposure to Final Fantasy might actually end up being FFXIV at this point. What's great is that there are no shortage of other games out there for people to enjoy in the franchise and the only ones that are REALLY connected are ones sharing the same number in their title as that indicates they exist in the same universe.

For the whole classic servers stuff in my opinion atleast. WoW started at a high throne that defined what an MMO is while FF14 started as a "Nightmare". But as years progress, WoW becomes the "Nightmare" while FF14 shines. Hence why classic servers works only for WoW and not FF14. WoW aged like a necrotic dead body and its folk look back to the glory days, lamenting. While FF14 looks back to its its poor start and ages like a fine crystal wine.

I also never played WoW as back in the day I was too poor to invest in a sub-based MMO, so always played free-to-play MMOs for the longest time not finding any worthy of paying a sub for. Until I gave FF14's free trial a try, and almost instantly fell in love with it. The very next day after starting I had bought the game and got a sub for it.

Final Fantasy has been going a few steps away from its traditional turn based combat since I believe the first MMO, FF 11. 12 and 13 are hybrids of turn based and action combat with 14 being the peak of that kind of turn based hybrid. 15, 16, and 7 Remake all are entirely action combat with very mediocre options to go back to turn based style. I would say if you are enjoying the series to give the other games in the franchise a shot even if they are turn based. The story has always been a huge focus of Final Fantasy and every game is only connected together by similar creatures and concepts unless it says it's a direct sequel like Final Fantasy X 2 and so on.

wrong. Since FF4 FF has been hybrid turn based game using atb gauge. It's just FF 12 and FF 13 added more depth that old fans said made it hybrid. When it was hybrid for most of it's time, the new mechanics were just too much info and they said bad not turn based.

On the positional DPS thing: a competent melee DPS (with a good tank) will stay as close to the division between flank and rear as possible, so they can make their positional adjustments quickly with limited movement (which is sometimes quite important: consider for example a Dragoon having to weave Jump between WheelingThrust and Fang and Claw which have different positionals - the animation lock on Jump leaves very little time for placement adjustment). Making the boss twitch back and forth either makes this backfire, or forces the DPS to make bigger placement adjustments, which is not always viable (see above), and the tank can make it less of an issue just by _not_ moving unnecessarily. In other words: Yes, there is a pizza slice of proper area. But a competent melee stays fairly close to the division of pizza slices. And with that, jiggling the pizza slices back and forth may move the melee out of place. (Yes I may take these a little more seriously than needed - former Monk main, you see - but just hoping that this might help out some poor melee just trying to do their job, in the future, from being frustrated by a tank...)

The problem with WoW and most other MMOs, is that an expansion not only makes old content obsolete, but it usually gets culled back or nerfed, if not removed. With FFXIV you can at least replay that content as if it was still new (by disabling echo and the gear scaling down, if not actually wearing gear matching the content). Asmon has been showing that capability off quite nicely. So doing something like a 1.0 or 2.0 FFXIV does not make as much sense, as classic WoW. The only thing missing in FFXIV is experiencing the list of skills available, at their previous state, at a particular patch level.

I am so glad that Asmongold knows the difference between a human with animal ears and tail which is a kemono-mini, or anthro-mini for us Furry fans (if Furry is capitalized it usually means the fandom and not the characters but it can still mean that too), an actual anthropomorphic character which most people call furry, and just a freaking animal. I now have half a mind to draw a Asmongold pointing at my slightly more anthropomorphized cat waifu saying "That's a freaking furry!" and me pointing at Y'shtola saying: "That's a freaking human!" showing at a not so subtle implication that we pretty much agree with the other's assertion. (Anyone who can guess my furry waifu will get a high possibility of getting like from me on their latest vids, hopefully my name and how I described her are good hints) It's normally just a pet peeve of mine when people mistake kemono-minis like Y'shtola as a furry when she's more of a human with ears and tail. I don't consider people like her to be actual furries mostly because they can just hide their ears and tails very easily (well maybe they might have trouble with the tail) and still pass off as humans. Actual anthropomorphic furries don't have that luxury when they're full of fur and scales and in settings like FF and Warcraft where they're supposed to be considered people too, they are still mistaken as animals when they're really not. Anyway it's just simple pet peeve of mine when characters like Y'shtola still get the same treatment as their more anthropomorphic counterparts get the same scrutiny as them, but it's not that big of a deal to me. However I can understand Asmongold's frustration at people keep assuming that on Y'shtola.
