I will say that I despise skinny & low-rise pants. I am young and very fit, and I look absolutely fantastic in high-rise, full-cut trousers. Even my jeans are cut in that fashion, and I wear my t-shirts tucked in. I am regularly told that I dress like people’s grandpa… and my response is always the same: “Yes. Because your grandpa was cooler than you.”

Excellent segment. By the way I thought that Okey and Pete were both correct about why a large percentage of men stopped wearing high rise trousers: wartime austerity, military habits, youthful rebellion, were all factors. When I was in university a few years ago, I shunned recommendations from my parents and went for skinny trousers, which I thought showed off my leg gains. I think Pete is right that younger men can get away with low rise, skinny trousers much more than older gentlemen. Great duo and great segment. I plan to join your discussion forums soon.

Pete can totally get away with velvet. A green silk velvet smoking jacket would look superb.

Not sure about the opinion that WW2 made men wear lower trousers. All trousers were high rise up until the mid 60s. Even after that it was common with high rise but low rise became more common. I'm a vintage enthusiast for menswear between 1930s to 1950s and for example I've never seen a low rise trouser from that era.

Thank you for your insight The Rac. As with all things, history is contextual. You may well have a point. In my own studies of the History of Style, I observed a decline in high rise trousers beginning after WWII Delighted to have your input sir! Welcome to AskOkey. I am new to your line of clothing and am very impressed with your philosophy of grooming. I am Gary from Richmond Va. by way of NY. You groom like gentlemen from the 30’s and 40’s. I am 71 years old and retired. I would like information on how to acquire one of your exquisitely tailored garments!
