As a brit this really highlighted to me what different groups think when someone says "party". For most, assumedly white young people in the UK, a party/house-party is usually just an excuse to get leathered with your mates and maybe go out to afterwards. Especially when you're an impoverished student you aren't going to be serving up plates of food for 30+ people who just want to get blackout drunk. It's not a proper social gathering like I think a lot of people would otherwise assume. If you were to ask any of these people if they'd serve food at a dinner party/bbq/family gathering/movie night, or ask anyone over the age of about 30 maybe, and they would probably answer very differently. What a funny, interesting topic. Great video - love how positive everyone was.

@@destituteanddecadent9106 you are supposed to go to a kebab shop afterwards - these will typically be open into the early hours of the morning. Two hours is on the short side for a house party, but alcoholic drinks contain a lot of calories, so if you were to drink at the rate most people do at house parties you probably wouldn't get that hungry.

That's the difference between a good joke based around cultural differences, and a bad joke. Based on that criteria of "punching up vs punching down" (which has been explained by multiple professional comedians in breaking down how they get away with some edgy humour), maybe re-think your joke, and why it triggered me. That's fantastic. I once hosted a group of international volunteers in the Netherlands. After serving them sandwiches on the first day I caught a few of them in the kitchen discussing something. I can't relate to that at all.. My parties in England consisted of drugs, booze, sex and people shouting louder and louder over each other, laughing and music played loud until the police turn up. Usually something will get broken.. Maybe a door or table. Definitely a few drinks spilt with possibly one casualty being sick. 🥳🥳Great Britain..

i experienced something like this at an esperanto congress, where at the end of each day me and a couple other people would just sit around in a candle lit room like you said, drinking tea and eating biscuits and talking in hushed voices. it was really such a nice way to socialize and get to know people without all the stress that normally comes with parties, i’d love to be able to find a group i could do that regularly with in my day to day life

thank you so much for doing this. i know this isn't a super serious video, but it's struck a weird chord with me. i think this is one of the first times i've seen race in the uk explored in such a casual, (mostly) friendly way? it's really, really refreshing.

Never done carbonara for 30 but I've done lasagne for 30! Also Indian banquet for 40...never again though, bit off more than I could chew on my own! Christmas dinners for 50, involving much tooing and frewing between aunties houses on the same street with the kids sent back and forth to relay the roast spuds and veg between kitchens, plenty of sit downs with menu planned to be able to pre make starters, puds and something easy like casseroles or shepherds pie. I've done pie and mash, roast veg and peas for 26, with each choosing their own pie to order, which made dishing up and delivery to the right person more of a challenge. I've come to the conclusion that its buffets and barbecue from now on for anything more than 8 people and my days of full on sit downs are seriously done.

I think that in many African countries, eating together and preparing food for someone is a love language, and I find that truly beautiful. You can expect to feel loved when friends invite you, which is why they may be confused when they don't receive food. This confusion could also arise because they usually invest the time to cook for their friends themselves. It's a way of nourishing each other, taking your time, and making your friends feel at home, preventing them from feeling hungry or uncomfortable.

Acts of Service is indeed a love language. And where I'm from (Germany), it's also seen as a great sign of love to cook for someone. It's just also not expected. Like, there's many types of parties. In many, you won't have food except for snacks or maybe ordering a pizza. In some, you will go to a restaurant. It's only the very special ones where we explicitly set out to cook for all attendees.

I'm from France and I remember the culture shock when i was a foreign student in the uk, going to parties and realizing I could only bring my own booze and no snacks 😅 In France, even as a student you're expected to bring drinks and/or "apéro" food to share with everyone

Great video, I think it shows a lot about our drinking culture and language around that, for white english millenials, "house party" is basically just extended pre-drinks and you start going to them when you're too young to get served in a club. So who gives a fuck about food, you're drinking room temperature tinnies, smirnoff ice or apple sourz, teenager bullshit. G&T in a can a baby step up from that. All an excuse to invite people from multiple friendship groups around to get blind drunk. If you asked about a family reunion, BBQ or a dinner party obviously you'd get very different answers. Not defending us, its a really good question that exposes how fucked British binge drinking culture was in the 2000s.

I’m Singaporean Chinese and I’ve never been to a house party that wasn’t also a family gathering. And there’s always catering (the full course including cooked food, cold dishes, desserts and a punch bowl), beers/wines, chips, poker cards, mahjong, and a karaoke system on full blast.

In New Jersey we NEVER had food at parties and I was always SO hungry but in Alaska we always had at least a little bit of food at my native family's parties

I have never drank alcohol in my life, it is just my choice. I have drunk Jamaican Ginger Beer in cans in the past (but they are non-alcoholic) and I have drank 0 percent beer in a can once too. Yes, I do expect there to be food at a party.

I’m half Dutch half Indonesian, but as for most foreign cultures in the Netherlands we make fun of the Dutch in many ways especially when it comes to party and food 😂 Even as a kid I remember Dutch parents would almost always tell you to go home because it’s dinner time where in most cultures you would be invited to actually join dinner LOL

This is so interesting. Its the same nationality but the culture behind their ethnicities makes such a difference. It goes to show you that there is subcultures upon subcultures even if everyone was born and raised in the same country.

For me, it depends what type of party it is. There should be meals at birthdays parties and graduation parties to name a few. However, if it's a halloween party for example, little snacks fit best or something like taco dip which is a snack but very filling.

I am Nigerian and even at kids birthday parties there is food, infact there is food at any party, naming ceremony, child dedication, birthday, house warming, name it there is always food. What is a party without food and takeaway. Even night clubs and bars here in Nigeria sells food.
