Ask The Producer: Kenny Larkin (Electronic Beats TV)
Музыка
Next on Telekom Electronic Beats TV’s Ask The Producer Series we have Kenny Larkin. As part of the second wave of Detroit techno producers, his musical legacy holds worldwide relevance. Debuting on Richie Hawtin’s Plus 8 imprint in 1990, he then went on to produce his first album, entitled “Azimuth”, for Warp records in 1994, making him one of the most pioneering producers of techno music.
In this video he answers questions which were sent to us, covering his mix processes, favorite synths, and much much more.
Note: This video was filmed by Kenny Larkin alone in his studio with two iPhones, so please excuse the picture quality.

He's always one of the most real people talking about this stuff and I love how much his interviews stand out because of it.
This guy had my shoes wore out in the 90's Chicago scene..😂

90s Chicago, Detroit, and Berlin owe me treatment money for my knees :)
It is so good to see Kenny in 2020. Last time I saw him was some 15-20 years ago. And I have quite a few of his vinyl releases. Always liked his grooves.
Azimuth was such a fantastic album. A classic forever.
‘Hope I’ll stay relevant’ how humble is that. Clearly in for the love of it, you can’t become unrelevant OG.
This guy...so damn humble.....c’mon Kenny u a legend out here of course we wanna know what’s going on with you. With you and all the originators from TheD. You guys paved the way and I wanna take this moment to say thanks to YOU! and the city of DETROIT. It’s all one.Peace

i just want to underline this! on the point!
Feel like u gotta watch at least halfway before commenting. Love this. Truly embodies a legend.
His energy and attitude is so great
"I need to touch my music." Yes!! That's the perfect way of putting it into words. You hit the nail on the head about different pieces of gear being inspiring in different ways because of how we interface with them (as well as the sounds, obviously). Even my JV-2080 is staying despite how much more convenient the plugin would be. The black box with the green screen and slim rectangular buttons just puts me in the zone.
"Where is your studio?? Oh! It's in the cloud!" Ahahahahahahaha!! Genius! Kenny is an idol, and a super producer!!
I come from a metal/rock background and Kenny's interviews have always opened my eyes to different aspects of music production. Great content.
Down to earth chap, says it like it is. Great to listen to on a rainy Tuesday !
Kenny Larkin? A billion thumbs up! Legend and amazing artist, easily one of the greatest.
A great watch, thanks a lot! Big fan here, Dark Comedy - The March is definitely on my top 5 of all times...
I could listen for hours to him! His honesty and humbleness about the process, admitting when he doesn´t know something and encouragement to try stuff out is very inspiring and gives me confidence. And looking at my Kenny records (Loop 2 was my first bought), it´s even more precious learning from this legend which music accompanys me for so many years now.
Love listening to Kenny. Great answers from a dude who really knows his shit.
"My studios in the cloud bra" too funny! So much good info here! Thanks for sharing!!!
Awesome, really appreaciated that Kenny took the time to answer all these interesting questions honestly. Longest YT video I ever wachted without skipping, that's for sure.
I’d like to say thank you Telecom beats team for such an amazing content ! Great job. Keep moving.
Innovative and inspiring gent. Always has been.

Totally agree. I've been a fan since Azimuth.
Love how he is so modest with it all. You can tell this dude would be fun on a session. Great interview.
He’s great on camera
I've liked Kenny Larkin's music for a while, and after watching this, like him as a person too. I can completely relate to his style of music making as a producer myself. He's a cool cat
Kenny is a total master! (Edit) loved the "unarranging" / "stay on session" style. He 's one of the Masters for real.

Kenny you are a true legend imho, and one of my biggest influences. Cheers!
This was really good. Thank you Telecom and Kenny Larkin for an educational and entertaining session.
You're spinning really reflects your personality.. I heard you play at Space Miami once. From the first track you not only took over the club but the entire town!!
last few days have been shit but this more than makes up for it . Thank you TE Beats and Mr. Larkin for the masterclass
Hell yeah!!! EB really are the best! Thanks for doing this Kenny!
Yo Kenny. I love you man! Keep doing your thing till the end of times.
Thank you Kenny and thanks Telekom Electronic Beats. That was great. Browsing candles now. :)
His video's are so informative. Comes across as a really down to earth guy.
Kenny will be one the producers / DJs that'll be just be fine regardless of how this industry improves or doesn't. Those who are most adaptable and maintain a great attitude are gonna do the best. Those that have other skills, or are driven to learn new skills - they will figure it out.... and Kenny is one of those people. Take note....that's what this thing is all about now AND it's permanent. Nothing will ever be quite the same again. So don't get discouraged or give up.....just reevaluate how you can still make money doing things you're passionate about. The money will come, but we all gotta look a new angles. We're gonna be dealing with variants/mutations of the virus.....and government restrictions in certain places over the next couple years at a minimum. We all gotta look at this thing as a new part of our lives, and find creative ways to work with it - and around it. Hope all you techno/house heads are keeping your heads up and moving forward. Cheers
Had his first album azimuth on tape when it came out lol blasted it out in a hotel room in london when i stayed there lol great album even now
Honest, talented guy. And I still play Methaphor. It's timeless. :-)
Such amazing content! Thank u Kenny for being so in depth.
Manik-Man, my introduction to Kenny's output back in the day, still a real classic track
azimuth - K2000 made loads of the complex sounds, i still remember booting mine up and realizing a preset made such wild soundscapes
You are right. Everybody needs to find its style by its own. Success is always hard work, fortune and stand up after falling down.
Great session, I really enjoyed this video, He is just special, an inspiration to us all.
So nice to hear this man, no airs and graces, just a genuine good person as well as a truly gifted and humble producer.. legend

RE: Behringer YES! Thank you!! And not just their clones, their original designs as well. I've got a Neutron and am loving it! I also recently bought a used Behringer Xenyx 1002B 10-channel mixer. Very nice little unit!! Again, loving it!.
True mentorship on display here. 🤜🤛 thx Kenny some realy inspiring stuff
Such a nice artist. I dont wanna label it but theres soo much buddhism and positivity in this beautifull mind❤️
I hope he releases another album soon. His music is sooooo good
Love the honesty in everything!
I love Lifeforms on his Pod alias. Incredible stuff. And integration is just something special. Still is.
I really enjoyed this video. You know when u hit the nail on the head and the tune seems to be creating itself almost like magic I feel. I'm very new to creating music but I'm not a young fella and have just loved all types of music through the ages. Since a baby in fact. My only regret is I wish I'd found my passion earlier in life
that story about choking at the comedy club sounds mortifying - interesting to hear that from someone who knows how to stir up a crowd with music so well - "don't ask for something you ain't ready for" - great interview - so cool to hear from the detroit techno gods, the whole scene is so relevant.
Maestro!
Very awesome insights - thanks very much - what a great person.
Nice job thank you for this a lot of game spoken so well.
whata legend! what a personality!
Great! Love you brother, always straight up!
Awesome. Thanks EBTV
Brilliant video. More of this please
I can totally see how did / does standup. Great presence and timing.
man i enjoyed every second of that interview.
Rather than inspiration from other artists, I like the idea if inspiration from machines and processes of sound creation!
Thank you so much for sharing :)
This man is so inspiring 🙌
I 100% wholeheartedly agreed with him on the film scoring, just license my tracks and I would be good with that!
Love this! His quite fun :D Funny how he doesn't like structure but his studio is quite well structured!

I know that he was joking about the ADD thing, but having problems with structural work and then still needing things to be structured around you, is a typical ADD thing. Plus other signs shown thoughout the vid 😆
Wow! Have so much of his early stuff when I was Techno head. At the time himself and Blake Baxter had my ears. Always felt that US Techno had a more melodic feel in comparison to Europe.
Awesome vid. Thanks telekom beats and Kenny 👍👍👍👍👍
What a class act. Great video, great guy
this was way more entertaining than i expected
Kenny needs his own show.
Love your answer about the Porsche. You did well, why not enjoy it 👍
