Ask Sherry Holmes: Mini-Split Heat Pumps

We've been installing a lot of Mini-Split heat pumps on our projects recently, and while my family and I are not an HVAC expert we spoke to the pros to answer some of your questions to help you in your research for the right system for your home.
Remember, this is not a DIY job. An HVAC pro can help you decide which kind of HVAC system will save you the most money over time. They can assess your house and consider your heating requirements, energy costs, and other variables.

Why would I install a heat pump when, for insurance purposes you need a 2nd type of heat source in your house. Could it be because they don't provide enough heat at -30? Instead I upgraded my Natural gas furnace to a 90% efficient one. Sorry but unless electrical prices really drop I cant see the advantage.

@@1packatak I'm still not convinced of all the extra costs associated with heat pumps, (back up system etc) We had 10 days of -40c last winter Im not sure how much heat you could pull out of that temp.

@@bigbear5891 heck I live in MN. We have days of actual temps -40 not including wind chills thanks to Canada sharing Polar Vortexes!, Even my well insulated 4 yo home’s furnace has trouble keeping up with that
