Jim.....just ran across your Q&A video and it was the most interesting video I've seen in awhile. I'm an O/O car hauler and see you guys on the road and often wonder what your job is like. Very informative, Thanks!

Brother these are very good videos. I appreciate you doing this. I have been in the game for a long time. However never have done the Cattle. I spent a lot of time on my uncle’s farm growing up so I would love to experience this side of the industry. I love hearing what you have to say. Hell maybe one day I will see you out there. Again thanks for the info. Stay safe driver.

Survived a truck fire yesterday. Total loss of a freightliner daycab, minor burns and loss of hair lol. Thinking of switching to hauling cattle but not sure where to start.

3 years hauling dry van and I'm getting bored. I have a little chocolate heeler that rides with me so I'm thinking live hauling might be a good fit. Like running hard and like running fast. Thanks for all the info. ✌️

Kicked? Too many times to count. Mainly by small calves (under 500#). Charged at? Not as much as you would think with all the bulls I hauled, but too many to keep track of. Broke some bones in my knee, broke all my fingers, broke my left hand, broke a couple toes, tore ligaments in both elbows, and less severe injuries. Worked through them all, even the knee. Talked to an old hand today and swapped stories. That old boy broke his leg a couple of times. Bunch of my buddies broke their ribs. Saw two guys die in the chute and seen other wicked injuries. You figure out how to read them and their actions, but you don't always have enough time to move. And to be honest most injuries happen because of other people trying to "help".

I hauled cattle for a long time, normally from Texas to Arizona or California, and when I'd pass someone, they had to look twice. I often was asked a lot, have you ever been hurt. Yeah once. Loaded Cuero Tx to Uvalde, got there to load and that one wild eyed steer, in Uvalde he was the 1st one off, and as the last ones were coming off, he came back up the ramp, and i ended up in the jail for the next 3 hours, yeah, some loads were always a challenge. I loved it and never trade for anything ❤oh, when I got in the jail, he joined me, pretty tight in there, and that was the only time i was hurt

Hey Jim! How are you? If you don't mind I have a question for you. My company started their Florida runs, and this past week I was down there. I was on my way back North with my reload of Watermelons, and was on FL-70 EB between Okeechobee and Ft, Pierce. (Heading to the Pilot there). I saw so many Cattle along that route I was amazed!! Dairy Cows, Angus, and Herefords, what I didn't see were Bullhaulers. Do Cattle that live in Florida usually stay in Florida, or do they get moved around eventually too? Thank You Sir always appreciate your responses!

Hey Jim! Two questions for you, first what do Bull Haulers mean regarding Spring and Fall runs? Also, I see Cattle trailers usually are spread axle, tandem, or even tri axle, is there a difference in how the trailers handle when loaded? Thanks So Much!!

  • @bigjimne

Spring haul is usually taking calves to pasture and fall run is hauling calves from the pastures to the feedlots, pastures are usually in the mountains when using these terms. And the axle numbers usually have more to do with weight. Tandems turn tighter than the others. Spreads and triples turn the same generally. On some triples you can lift the rear axle and that makes backing and tight turns easier

Take it slow. Practice. Don’t get frustrated. Understand the concept of walking your trailer, in that you’re not trying to get the trailer squared with the hole, but rather getting both your truck and trailer squared at the same time. Nobody’s perfect, so if you fail a portion it doesn’t mean you’re a failure; a lot of people fail one portion or another.

Not related to hauling cattle but just in general. If someone is fully blind in one eye can they get a CDL.
