    I have 3 of those little box miners.. Mini Doge, KD Box and the KD box II. I also have 2 solar arrays outside.. 1200w (6x200) on a dual axis tracker and a 1740w (6x290) I have unlimited power with my rent but living in an RV with only 30a of shore power. I'd like to experiment with something just like this. I also do CPU\GPU nicehash mining. The EVGA GT1000 PSU recently died so 1 cpu and gpu are down for a bit.

    There's charge control that reduce 24v to 12v. So you could run the miner right of the charge control/battery

    Its definitely possible mathematically. But, your cost will be batteries. If you can get enough panels to run miners for about 5 hours a day during peak hours.

    The miner has a range of 12-15Vdc. You don't need the DC-DC converter. You need an LFP 12V, 200Ah battery to run all night. Connect the miner directly to the battery through a 40A fuse. You'll need a 12V, 60A charge controller. Amazon, Powmr parallelable. Much simpler and more efficient, and easy to expand. I'm setting this up now, May 2024, to power three Mini Doge 2 & 3's. Never rent your power, make your own.

    your experiment videos are awesome! im having trouble running off of solar. idk why so many hydbrid charge controllers need battery input to power on. i have the 48v renogy charge controller that gives errors and a sp6548 charge controller and i cant get either to power anything without the battery hooked up

    I recently bought the Victron 48v Multiplus. I'm no electrician so I'm waiting on someone to come wire it up. I'm hoping my panels will start working better to recharge the 400Ah's faster.. I've got a mini split that the panels will be powering also. It draws about 800w when cooling..

    Watch out with the multiplex The ac is spring loaded connectors you need a tiny screw driver in the other hole also you need 7/8 bare copper most people use number 6,a lot of people say don't use the feral but check some videos then have 8 inches cable at the cable clamp A lot of people the wire. Is loose and overheats and burns out the multiplex its a design faltt from victron. Pull each wire and make sure irts not overheating the wires

    Hi again Brad, as you guess I like alot the idea of using direct solar power. I thought it possible, and you prove it! It was quite simple to do it on KD box 2, but I wish to do it on antmain S19J - I don't have it yet, but thinking to use the same idea on it too. But it seems more complex, I have seen videos how to replace the PSU, so that simple. So to connect to the two bus bars on the top, can be not too hard, and to replace the 6pin 12V connector seems simple too, I am not sure what is the small connector I assume also 12v power, but not sure, possibly some control? If you can have video on it, or if you have a solution - I'll go for it. (BTW, of course I will use the 12V relay of 500A that you have used in other video - great idea!!) Again many thanks!! (Of course it's all on me - you just give ideas - which is great!!)

    We have a S19J Pro, but I don't want to experiment with it. I have looked into it, I think it's all just 12v. I might try to get some company to sponsor a video by sending an S19J. Might be a tall order, we'll see.

    You have 4 12v battery. Put all the battery in paraller and you will save the lost power by converting 24v to 12v.

  • @BradCagle

    @BradCagle

    Yes, i have a few videos doing directly connected straight 12v. But there is a cost benefit going higher voltage, you can use smaller charge controllers, and smaller wire, etc.. Also some equipment does not like the higher 13.8v when directly connected to battery.

  • @ilangsaio601
    @ilangsaio601 Жыл бұрын

    Hi Brad, I am not clear why to use the 24->12V convertor. (As you said its get hitted - so lose energy) why not use direct 12V, 4 batteries in parallel of course. (e.g. what is the gain of using 24V if any?) Thanks.

  • @BradCagle

    @BradCagle

    You can get more solar power at 24v. A 20amp MPPT can do 276w at 12v, and 552w at 24v. Of course you can get a larger MPPT like a 40amp and do 552w at 12v. But at some point scaling 12v becomes difficult. So I just want to show all options.

    hi, is is safer with gpu mining to add a 12 volt dc-dc converter or just runing from the battery?

  • @germanplayer7329

    Use a dc-dc converter. You don't want to give your GPU more or less than 12v

    Hey Brad, I was wondering if it's possible to connect a converter + the load directly to the batteries instead of the charge controller load. Would the charge controller still be able to charge the batteries while also allowing the batteries to discharge from the load? Also, what advantages are there to connecting the converter and the load in the charge controller, rather than directly connecting them to the battery?

  • @BradCagle

    @BradCagle

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes you can, but you need a LVD. Low voltage disconnect. This will turn off your load when the battery is low, and turn it back on after the battery is charged up a bit.

    In this current market you should be thinking less than a $1 a day on pretty much anything. You need to learn about the bear/bull markets in crypto, specifically the "halving events" of Bitcoin. Only then can you make "somewhat informed" decisions on buying any mining equipment. I've seen uniformed people spend a lot of money on mining hardware that will never make them anything.

    @@patdud1979 So crypto mining historically has shown to be cyclical, we're in a low right now but history has shown the next bull market should be around the next BTC halving. As for selling energy back, my calculations shows mining to be more profitable
