Agreed. It must not be forgotten that humour and offence are two different things. Satire plays on stereotypes in order to be funny, it's the point. It's not ACTUALLY offensive to anyone other than people who are exact copy of the satire. In which case, they deserve to be laughed at. But satire removes the characters from reality, so finding people who match it will be pretty slim.

Love watching these back. I am 26 and had an awareness of this show when I was a kid but don't really remember watching. I remember one night I was up later than I should have been and from memory it was a compilation of sketches from British Asian comedy shows. Two vividly stick in my head. The first was very simple - an elderly man (possibly wearing a turban) steps outside to pick up his milk and/or the newspaper. The door shuts behind him and he simply says, "bollocks." The second involved Sikh policemen and their helmets riding bicycles, I can't remember much more than that. Please, if this rings a bell for anyone reading - help me to remember what I'm remembering!

The comedy in the show makes you love the characters and adore the culture to some extent. That makes the caricature likable by all, including the Indians themselves. When you depict the characters and culture as disdainful rather than loveable , is when it sounds racist. Everything else is just fine as long as the audience have good sense of humor.

I wish people understood the difference between racist and satire.
I’m an Indian and this is still funny to me today as it was when I watched it for the first time nearly 20 years ago. If Indians aren’t offended by this sketch, no white person has the license to either. The BBC better not disavow Goodness Gracious Me.
This clip turned eleven years old today, and I'm glad I came.
Still so VERY funny 😆 even years later (2/1/2021) lol Every time, this show succeeds in giving me a good laugh! 😂😂😂 I think all of the cast are great in that they poke fun at themselves, wish others would do the same! Thanks for upload! Much funnier than some modern day comedians! Sad 😢 “Every thing is Indian” “hello me old fruity” love it 😍❤️❤️❤️
