    I believe the leader let Eaton to finish first is because the clock stops when the event winner goes over the line, the crowd would instantly know whether he broke the record or not. Had he won the race himself, everyone would have needed to wait a little before Eaton's time would have been known.

    best athlete period. i ran a 4:30 in my deacthlon and it was relatively fast. But no other human can run a 4:37 mile equivalent and long jump 26 feet. Unreal.

    Absolutely. His classy show of sportsmanship was just as remarkable as Ashton Eaton's stupendous Decathalon world record. Congrats to both. And congrats to the USA for producing such great athletes.

    It's all good, my friend. I appreciate the dialogue. What prompted my first comment was that, as soon as someone saw an amazing athletic performance, they immediately jumped to the conclusion of cheating. Granted, with Tour de France cyclists juicing like Jay Kordich (and, for some of us old folks, the memory of Ben Johnson), it might be difficult to believe that someone can crush at that level naturally, but Ashton is the real deal. World class, totally rad...totally inspirational!

    I was in the stands for every moment of every decathlon event at the trials this summer. It was exciting when Eaton broke the WR for the long jump and 100m, but that was nothing compared to this moment. The stands were electric. Nothing, and I mean nothing, beats Hayward Field.

    So I'm just finding this out, so I may not be 100% correct. But the decathlon isn't just this one race, it is a compilation of events where you accumulate points. So Eaton, over the course of all the events did the best overall, giving him more points than the previous world record. You don't have to be the absolute best in each event, just consistently good throughout.

    no you're right, it's just a little cooler to celebrate when ashton crosses the line in 1st then waiting for 2nd. beach would've been overshadowed regardless, but it was a nice gesture.

    But anyways, this was very inspiring to watch. It's kinda sad that most people who live around me haven't even heard of Eaton. It was also great to see Beach giving Eaton some glory that he did not necessarily have to give to him, but did anyways!

    This was the last event of the decathlon (10 events) and he needed a certain time to get the world record (Best performance ever by anyone). and he got the time he needed to accumulate the ammount of points required to break the record.. there is 1000 points up for grabs in each event and they all add up for the final score.. decathlon is a points race.

    You are underestimating the decathalon. After you have done 9 events in 2 days, even the best athletes in the world can lock up. It doesn't matter how good you are at a single event fresh if you can't perform well in them all.

    Beach was winning but he knew even if he won the 1500 he wouldn't place or make the team so rather than take points away from Eaton, he let him pass and get first so he could set a record.

    Correct me if I'm wrong, but the fact that Beach slowed down to let him pass had NOTHING to do with Ashton getting the record. The WR is based on total points, and the points in the 1500 are earned by the individual's time, not the place in which one finishes. And, to those who claim steroid use or doping, I challenge you to work out even 1/10,000th as hard as these gals and guys do.

    I phrased that wrong. It's more like a steroid user extends his tolerance of working hard so he can do it for longer. Or maybe it's that you grow muscle faster with the same amount of exercise? I'm not entirely sure, but what I am sure of is that they have to work hard as well.

  • @NotoriousKorea
    @NotoriousKorea12 жыл бұрын

    My first definition sucked lol so I'll try again. Decathlon placing is based on your times in each of the events, where you get points for your times. Obviously, if you get first in all the events you will win, however if you bomb all the other events and do great in the 1500, it's really irrelevant. Beach wasn't going to make the team, so he let Eaton get "1st" in the 1500, more of a way to say congrats. So yes, Beach would've "won" the race, but lost the event.

    I like how you said that you wished there was more respectful people on the internet in your other comment, and then go ahead and say zinezinzadan should not have the right to live and is a "stupid piece of shit." I know people are hating on him, but it's no one's job to be informed about everything. Don't be rude and don't insult other people because of their ignorance and misconceptions. If you want more respectful people on the internet, start with yourself.

    As to your "[I]gnore the people saying he does steroids"...I will not, and you shouldn't either. Of the 10 comments on this page when I posted, 2 were steroid/doping related. Hardly a random sample; however, 20% of posts trying to demean this achievement is disheartening. Unfortunately, that seems to be the status these days: rather than build ourselves up, let's tear others down.

    Well technically even if you're on steroids you still have to work extremely hard. All steroids do is make it easier to work extremely hard. I'm not saying he's on steroids, but your reasoning doesn't prove it either way.

    Are decathlon points scored by placement? So the higher you finish the more points you get, or is it scored by time/distance/height? So a 4:20 is "?" points, a 4:15 is "?" points. Because if it's by placement and not the quality of your scoring throughout the meet, then this will never be a world record in my book. He was given the world record not earned it.

  • @handsonthroat
    @handsonthroat12 жыл бұрын

    Well, I might be picking nits, but if taking steroids makes it easier to work extremely hard, then a steroid user is NOT working as hard as someone not juicing. Subtraction, really.
