That was the most aggressive turn 1 I've ever seen. What an absolute power play

When I saw the hand I was hoping you'd do exactly what you did. What a great mono black deck, lovely to watch it pop off. Ashnod seems low impact but I'm a sucker for cheap commanders and the art is great!

John obviously doesn't run combos to keep things "fair"... because this is the first time I see someone sac Protean Hulk TWICE IN THE SAME TURN and not win the game on the spot. Also, he went a bit overboard with the Protean Hulk triggers: he got 7 mana worth of creatures both times, when he couldn't get more than 6.

John could have sacrificed the Junji to get back the Underrealm Lich in his graveyard to survive the draw trigger. We then would have had a fully powered up Muldrotha yard, which would have been crazy to see.

Also all the dredge cards in his graveyard allow him to dredge instead of drawing.

@yingyangman11 You do have to have the appropriate number of cards in your library to dredge, sadly. My Hogaak deck doesn't like that rule very much

Watching the table not try to fight you at all after you tutored 8 lands was killer. What on earth did they think was going to happen

Protean Hulk lets you grab creatures with mana value totalling 6 or less, not 7.

John had an out! He could have sacrificed Junji and reanimated his Underrealm Lich, which replaces all of his draws. It's a fun little tech piece for anybody worried about getting milled to death.

Was thinking the same. The lich has saved me at least couple of times in my Sidisi deck from milling myself to death, such a great card

It's probably one of the best "fair Magic" cards available in Golgari. Hard to get rid of, gives excellent card selection, puts stuff in your graveyard, and prevents you from losing to mill. It's not quite good enough for cEDH but can be a casual star.

As someone with an Ashnod deck that has been debating if i should put my Store Championship Braids in it, this video was very informative. She had always seemed pretty mediocre on paper to me but seeing it in play its quite powerful. In my mind she was just an a repeatable fleshbag marauder which is cool but meh and thought you would never get to draw cards lol. As for what Ashnod does late game, i cant say for this persons deck as mine is leaning into mostly being artifact creatures but Mishra's Self Replicator can make a LOT of tokens. As does Encoring Pyrexian Triniform or Triplicate Titan and Myr Battlesphere if i have Wire Surgeons out. The powerstones provide so much mana you kind of just kill people with casting lots of stuff. I guess Braids will help with having enough cards to cast at that point if its half as good when i play it as it was here lol

That's interesting, I need to try that! I've been wanting to build Ashnod since she got spoiled but always ended up feeling or hearing that the commander is too low impact.

Love my Lil' Ashnod deck - definitely focuses on having a creature to snack on every combat to pump out those powerstones, with big artifact payoffs for the end game. Threefold Thunderhulk is pretty insane in the deck, same with any of the Living Weapons (there's a germ to snack on to boot!)

That turn 1 play would have been a win in my books being that guy. Risky as a black mage should be. He bagged it off with the citadel later as well. However i think these guys did not run enough interaction. Feels like some plays ahould have been at least attempted to be stopped
