This is actually very rare hearing this much horn in Ashland because it’s a “no horn zone” but I’m sure since it’s train day and the fact that there were so many people crowding the tracks, the engineers really didn’t care about the rules.

CSX lifts the "no horn" policy for a few days a year in Ashland, including train day. Trains actually have a special order to use lots of horn on this day.

Man, that was some great action and looked to be an awesome day! I'd say my favs were P088 with P42DC 10 leadin with that phenomenal K5LA (Brings back memories when all of Amtrak's K5's sounded good lol), Q301 with that killer hornshow, P194 with 113 had a great K5LA (I loled when I saw that paper sign in the window when it departed xD), P089 with 156 leading with killer horn action (I could've gotten that same train but I got it leading 89/90 a couple weeks prior so I didn't bother getting it again), Q439 with 3 YN2 AC44CW's trailing that one ET44AH (THAT IS INSANE AND RARE!), Q140 with killer horntaps and killer click valve action as it passed by you :D, that meet with P079 and Q416 and Q416 with that killer lashup, that big E752, Q410 with that fouled horn which sounded like a K5H and that Ex-Conrail SD60M trailing 2nd out of 4, Q031 with that Trash 8 haha, P053 was certainly moving, especially Q354, and lastly Q438! Certainly an epic day for you! I hope you don't mind checking out my new video. Joes Junction You can see Sealston Branch trains at those stations, including D793, T161, U161, B732, and B731?(the loaded trash train). They are nice spots

I saw Amtrak 156 on Virtual Railfan cam that day

I never even knew about a train day event! I think me and my mom will go this year! Can’t wait for November second! Edit: also nice catch! Edit2: my mom wants to go to North Carolina for a shorter drive

All trains ran normal. Ashland gets about 40 trains per 24 hours.

Pretty much anybody who likes trains! I'm around your age and i sure do enjoy it. Via Amtrak, you would take a regional train from either Williamsburg or Norfolk that stops in Ashland.

I'm definitely gonna plan to come out that way! It's only about 2 hours more than my recent trip to Chicago, but I know I can handle it! Especially more convenient is the fact that I get off at 3pm on Thursday (I work 4 days a week Monday-Thursday.) and can adjust my schedule the following week so I can work from Tuesday to Friday and dedicate Monday to driving back. So, I'll be planning for this!

I have just discovered all you marvelous rail people in the last couple weeks. I live in Chilliwack BC. Last night we saw the last 20 cars or so of a CN freight on Eagle Landing Parkway on our way to Prospera Centre for my son's hockey game.
