Easily the best stream of the year.

Winning a war by a large margin should automatically trigger the option to declare a siege

Looks like a mix of ESO and GW2.

It really isn't very "Like" anything we have seen before, and there is a lot we still don't know about. The more I know, the less "conventional" it gets. There are some genre-breaking concepts: 1. The citizen residents of a node "own" the node, not a guild, and they own it only in the administrative sense. Outsiders questing in that node benefit the node and help it grow, you don't want to chase them away, or fight them, unless they declare war on you, as a raid, to claim the benefits of a POI, or attack specific PvP objectives like caravans. This seems to indicate that casual ganking or griefing is going to be tricky, and so is some big guild taking over the world. 2. The end game is like nothing we have seen before as it is not linear. Also nodes decay, and so do mounts, and we think gear. It is likely that there will be some sort of economic migration particularly for people who contributed to a nodes success, but didn't secure premium housing. I think they hope that there will be a constantly shifting, rising and falling of nodes and Kingdoms. 4. The classes seem to have large numbers of abilities and augments, and gear will be dependent on which biome nodes are metropolises and which specializations those nodes have chosen. This huge width of what is possible, and the variation from one server to the next is likely to mean that there is no meta in playstyle, or abilities or guides to defeating bosses. You can choose your own and it will be very difficult to tell, whose build is best, with variable PvE bosses and no real way to compare PvP success. And there is still so much we don't know. It seems like the team at Intrepid have gone about their project by picking the 5-10 biggest issues with MMOs and fixing them at all costs. Whether that will create different problems remains to be seen, but I think it is safe to say that the experience of playing AoC will be unique. I may be high on Copium, but I can't wait to see it live.

I hope they will change the skill sound effects because, boy oh boy they are dreadful. All I heard was pew pew futuristic sounds in a medieval setting.

They are still working to Alpha 2 which is all about functionality. The sounds they are using are ones that are easy to sync them to the animation, and tell the sounds apart. It is relatively trivial to swap them over when everything is functionally correct. You will hear potential end game sounds in beta testing.

Up till 1h15min into the showcase i was very impressed and happy with the show case. But then something was said that in my opinion will make ashes of creation fail to bring a pvx game. Personal flying mounts. Not only is this in contrast with what originally was announced, that on average a maximum of 10 people would have a flying mount. The reasons why it will doom Ashes of creation is the same as the problems it has caused for every mmo that has flying mounts for personal use. 1) It will make PVE interactions null. Any natural chokepoint, every jump puzzle every mob density or lack thereoff will be rendered obsolete, people will just fly over the "hard" Parts 2) Flying mounts will be a must have. Forget about balancing mounts with abilities the only thing that matters will be "will it be able to fly" and "how fast can i fly with it" 3) PVP will be dead. Why fight if you can take flight and be out of reach? Controversially people will just swoop down and kill people with little of no consequences. Top down view granted by flight will always be tactically more important then anything you can do on the ground. After the kill you can fly off and move to a relative save zone to farm of your corruption. 4) Once you introduce flight for everyone there is no going back. It doesn't matter how hard it is to get it, eventually people will get it, and after enough of a server life, everyone will have it. Not only that, it encourages deprimental behaviour. It encourages people to level to the level where the flying mount is accessible asap. 5) It makes Caravan's useless. Why risk a caravan, if you can take your flying mount fly to where you want to go and be completely risk free. Worse if you do need to use a caravan due to something to bulky to carry yourself, how can you prevent people from scouting your slow caravan that needs to have a land or water based route, and allow other people to converge in a straith line to intercept. Even if they are unable to kill the caravan due to to many defenders, they don't risk anything. They will just fly away, and the caravan can't persue you because they will need to remain with the caravan. 6) Even if you only allow flying mounts during wars, people will instigate wars to use the mounts in the above ways without caring for the wars. As long as there is a war, people will be able to use their flying mounts. Once this is known, people will volontarily organize wars between other entities without ever intend to fight, for as long as the war is active they can use the flying mounts. I've been following Ashes of creation for over 3 years and this is the first time that my faith is wavering!!!

I think there's been some kind of misunderstanding. The rarity of flying mounts hasn't changed, to that great of an extent. What's changed is that before, the plan was for mayor's to attain flying (royal) mounts only at the metropolis lvl. Intrepid has changed that, so that mayor's can now obtain royal mounts at lvl 3+ nodes. This ONLY applies to mayorship, and Kings/Queens of guild halls. Not your average civilian player. So, if this current game design stays true, there will be more dragon ownership, because there will be more lvl 3+ nodes, than metropolises. But, just to restate, only mayors will have the ability to receive a royal mount, in that regard. Other than that, the only way for a civilian to get a royal mount is a rare drop for a legendary boss, that drops a dragon egg. And, those mounts are VERY limited, and temporary. So, flying a royal mount will be an exclusive privilege. This won't be an Oprah situation...

Imo it was far away from being the best update. It was visually horrible, there was no propper pvp gameplay, just zerging and spamming aoes.

I mean it’s a war it’s gonna be chaotic visually and there very much was pvp gameplay lol in a battle of that scale there will be lots of zerging doesn’t mean that’s what all pvp will be like but I mean it’s a war so… not to mention it’s alpha so they can improve it

Idk, they’d need to pay me to be watching this for an hour. Too much time wasted, too slow of a start, and the war itself is scripted and played poorly by both team, making it quite boring to see going down. The concepts, performances and systems themselves are great, but I watched maybe 5minutes Of it total looking for the actual interesting/meaningful parts. I don’t understand how they can justify making these pre recorded segments over 30-45minutes. They’re scripted content anyway, narrate over it, skip the nothingness and get to the important segments.
