It’s spiritual and talks to the spirits of their ancestors… the lebbu are located in Dakar, Sénégal 🇸🇳 where Asake actually shot the video. They live near the sea and men are mostly fishermen and practice wrestling as entertainment. It will be difficult to consider this song for an award because it is a category of it's own. They will never understand how a musician can temporarily transform into a spirit to create a spiritual piece. It is too deep to analyze, too classy to classify. The highness of coolness. Essentially spiritual. Asake is possessed by the ancestors.

Let's stop the debate and just enjoy this beautiful piece of music. This song and video show how brilliant and deep Asake's knowledge and appreciation for the art is. I have learned right here some valuable lessons about some unique African cultures without traveling to these parts. The song is a sample of Michel Legris' 'Mo Capitaine' performed by Jason Heerah (it's in Asake's description as well).... so the song is definitely 'sega', like our Mauritian brothers and sisters have said. It also has elements of goumbe as our Senegalese brothers have said...which shows Asake has sought to mix the two, probably seeing the similarity between the two. He also chose to use the Senegalese culture in the video to pay homage to the lebu community. The fact that both genres of music from 2 different countries are similar (I might even add that there are similarities to Nigeria's apala music/beat) kinda suggests Africa was ONE before we were separated by borders and it's why our cultures are similar? This is interesting if you think about it. Thank you Asake

From Côte d'Ivoire with Faith & Love 🇨🇮 🇨🇮

I thought it was just me. This song is deep. Someone just said the original was done by a late Mauritius singer. I think the spirit of Mother Africa is drawing us into our innerself to feel and enjoy peace and love and this is what this song is portraying.

I remember seeing a video of asake drumming with some local drummers I thought it was Gambia now I see it’s Senegal and I thought this was Brazil because the beginning sounded like Portuguese or Spanish. It’s culturally beautiful felt like I was there as well. Most people don’t know asake is a trainer drummer and dancer ( theatre ) and a singer. He is multitalented. God bless everyone who enjoy African music and culture. ❤🙏🏽
