Let's stop the debate and just enjoy this beautiful piece of music. This song and video show how brilliant and deep Asake's knowledge and appreciation for the art is. I have learned right here some valuable lessons about some unique African cultures without traveling to these parts. The song is a sample of Michel Legris' 'Mo Capitaine' performed by Jason Heerah (it's in Asake's description as well).... so the song is definitely 'sega', like our Mauritian brothers and sisters have said. It also has elements of goumbe as our Senegalese brothers have said...which shows Asake has sought to mix the two, probably seeing the similarity between the two. He also chose to use the Senegalese culture in the video to pay homage to the lebu community. The fact that both genres of music from 2 different countries are similar (I might even add that there are similarities to Nigeria's apala music/beat) kinda suggests Africa was ONE before we were separated by borders and it's why our cultures are similar? This is interesting if you think about it. Thank you Asake

als Mauritian culture for the intro song
His most amazing arts are succinct. Yoga and Lonely at the top. You just want to hear more but he walks away, leaving you speechless.
For a long time I haven't felt that deep spiritual connection with my ancestors but this song sent me right on that path with its deep connection to my African ancestors.

The music style is called Sega: Origins. Sega music originated among the slave populations of Mauritius 🇲🇺 and Réunion 🇷🇪 and later spread throughout the Seychelles 🇸🇨 . It is usually in 6/8 meter and has an associated dance form. Sega's exact origins outside the islands are unknown. Beautiful Track! Sample: (Michell Legris - Mo Capitaine) - Mauritius 🇲🇺 Costume and Dance: Lebbu Culture - Senegal 🇸🇳 Lyrics: Yoruba/Pidgin - Nigeria 🇳🇬

This then shows a possible connection between the Creoles in Mauritius and the Yoruba.. music connects.. tracing roots through a beat.. may be one of the purposes of this song.. especially with the sample Mauritian Sega track in the intro.. this is deep.

When I first heard the drums it sounded like moutya from my country, Seychelles, and the Creole in the background in the beginning made me confused as I don't hear this in any song overseas, haha! ASAKE you have somehow been able to blend so many of our cultures from Africa and represent all of us. So much unity in this song. Beautiful :) and thank you!

Much love to the Haitians for keeping this spirit alive. Growing up in Africa all I said is the exact people doing carnivals in these costumes and as artist this is just so beautiful to see this in New Orleans, Haiti, Caribbean, Trinidad and all over the world we returning to source.
I'm from Rep of Bénin (Cotonou). Asake is a legend and as africans, we are proud of him and his music. Mr Money may God bless you more
I'm very proud to hear as intro the ties of the African culture of my country which is Mauritius. The descendants of the African who walked this ground left us with the sega music and "‘Mo Capitain’ by the late great Michel Legris is one of treasure trove which we have here on the island... Thanks a lot for that...🙏🙏🙏
Asake is here to shake up the charts again. Man this song is good to sit down and go through things over and over again before making important decisions. Good music here y'all...

From Côte d'Ivoire with Faith & Love 🇨🇮 🇨🇮
God is an Artist, and we African are showcasing it. This music is so spiritual. Thank you Asake. God bless Africa and God bless Nigeria 🇳🇬 t
