As 'Jesus Revolution' Hits Theaters, Producer Tells of 'Miracle After Miracle'

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The 1970s saw people traveling to southern California looking for truth. Then something extraordinary happened: the pastor of a struggling church opened his doors to a charismatic street preacher and a steady stream of young people. It gave birth to one of the greatest spiritual awakenings in American history. That story is now a major motion picture.
Jon Erwin is one half of the filmmaking duo The Erwin Brothers. Jon and Andrew are the team that delivered the hits I Can Only Imagine, Woodlawn, October Baby, and Mom's Night Out." But it's taken Jon seven years to bring a more than 50-year-old story to screen in his latest film Jesus Revolution.
"This project has taken many twists and turns. It's the longest I've ever worked on a movie," Jon told CBN News' Studio 5.

The picture of the man in the cover is my grandpa, Hugo Soria, being baptized in 1979, he still lives in SoCal and has given his life to Christ since then. Years later this movement impacted my family, I am a Believer as well. Wonderful to see that my grandpa was part of this amazing movement! I hope to see a revival like this in my generation 😊

😇 Wow Melanie.. this is beautiful I can only imagine how you feel. And I believe we will see a more intense revival in our time. God can only move us from glory to glory, the enemy is coming in like a flood and so we know He will lift up the standard of holiness in our lives and that will equal to His glory. You will be part of something amazing, your grandpa will cry tears of epic joy!😇

Absolutely, Jeanie! America and the world needs a 'Jesus Revolution' right now. If Joe Biden can just pick-up the phone and call Putin and plead with him to end the war, all this misery will end. America should not fund the war with missiles and tanks from the taxpayers very hard-earned money and we don't want any more human killing. As humans, we can talk for peace rather than look for revenge. This senseless war will end if America stops the funding, and the recession and inflation in U.S. will also be past us. When will the American people rise to stop this non-sense that is going on in the government?

Do you really understand YAHOSHUA of The Bible?! The Father of lies is in control of Hollywood do not be deceived! A real pastor should never want the likes of a sinful Kelsey Grammer to play him in any movie unless Kelsey has truly repented for his sins and iniquities first. Revival and Revolution aren't spoken about in the Holy Scriptures...REPENTANCE is but these pastors aren't leading you to REPENT! Matthew 9:13 - But go ye and learn what that meaneth, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice: for I am not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.

Thank you for your testimony! I too became a believer in July of 1977! I went to a Catholic grade school, and a high school acquaintance witnessed to me my whole first year at college. I asked a zillion questions, being very analytical. And then back home that summer, I was sitting in my living room thinking like I had so many times before, and it was like a light bulb went on over my head, and I said to myself, "Of course it's true, if it was anything else, I would have believed it a long time ago! It was an immediate recognition of my own hard-heartedness. I was amazed! I knew it had to be the Lord's work, because I so suddenly went from unbelieving to believing. Truly the Grace of God that opens the mind and heart, because we are blind and dead in our sins. All Glory to God! ✝✝✝

The kids that came including my own sons were from broken homes and needed healing and restoration. To see the transformation in their lives from being bitter & angry and feeling of abandonment throughout there years was a miracle. All of them became strong in the word and loved sharing Jesus to anyone they met. The Asbury revival and the Jesus Revolution movie has come into our society for such a time as this. The pure message of Jesus is love your enemies and we as christians have to be a witness to a society that is broken and needs healing and restoration and a touch of the holy spirit.

Chuck Smith, Greg Laurie, and many wonderful musicians lead worship in both large tents and church buildings. GOD WAS MOVING! I looked forward to seeing the movie. Saw this movie yesterday. I was so touched. Bringing my daughter tomorrow. She’s been in the today hippie lifestyle for about 10 years and is in a lesbian lifestyle. She’s been seeking a higher power but, she hasn’t come to the doctor of herself. I’m praying that this movie will witness to her, in Jesus name. God has always told me to love her through and not to preach to her. I believe He was right because now she’s 28 and sees life a lot differently than 5 years ago. I’ve just been a witness of love and kindness never judging. So many times I wanted to talk to her about her sexuality but, Holy Spirit stops me. He reminds me to leave her in his hands at the cross. Now I have two adult sons 32 and 21. They too have issues but, again God tells me to just pray plead the blood over all 3 and trust Him. It’s working they will be my prodigals and they will come home to Jesus. This movie really encouraged me the Gods moving right now with the youth and that He has such a great plan for our youth and to trust Him knowing that H e’s Almighty God He will not for sake our children. The seed of the righteous shall be saved in Jesus name amen

Also, the Godspell musical was huge at that time opening on May 17, 1971. God was moving. Been praying for this generation to experience God's Spirit moving over this earth before He sends His Son, Jesus Christ, the KING of kings & LORD of lords back to earth to come for His people. Get to know Jesus. His love never fails. His love is eternal. I take great issue with the way this movie projects Pastor Chuck Smith. I WAS THERE at the beginning. I went to all the Churches under Chuck. We all knew and loved Lonnie as one of us. He however was NOT the saving grace that swooped down and saved Pastor Chuck's career and Church. Lonnie had more of a father /son relationship with Chuck Smith. We all had that kind of relationship with him, but I was truly blessed by God to call him my second Daddy. He was there when I was 12, married me & my husband of over 49 yrs, dedicated all our children, conducted home visits with my invalid mother, and conducted our funerals. I knew them all. I can honestly say you have got the portrayal of Chuck completely wrong. He was the Strong, Knowledgeable, LOVING, accepting Shephard of his flock. He would be the first one to say he was just a vessel to be used to bring Jesus to a generation. Lonnie was only at Calvary for about a year. Then he moved away but stayed in touch. All through Chuck's life, he kept his heart on the pulse of the Calvary Chapel Church and all the people. Until his death, he cared for and loved us all. I am heartbroken to see him portrayed as a "Down & Out, desperate," weak grumpy old man that couldn't keep his church alive. It was the EXACT OPPOSITE. I am Saddened that Greg and the other pastors would allow this to be released. I mourn these times in my heart. I miss all my friends, I miss pastor Romain, Ron Wiesman, Don McClure, Tom Stipes, and all of our family that has gone on to their heavenly home. If you want to know the real Chuck Smith...Watch " A Venture in Faith" on KZread. It is the history of Calvary Chapel BY Chuck Smith and world leaders and pastors who knew him. All in all, I loved those times, but remember to note it was all about one man........... JESUS

Chuck shared in many interviews from his very own mouthat at the very beginning he was critical and God changed his heart toward the hippies. What you are seeing in the preview is not they put the way they portray Chuck throughout the movie, don't be so upset at the preview.

It was fun to see the Pirate Cove again where we were baptized, and the real pictures. It leaves me a little wounded in my heart to be as old as I am now when inside, I feel like it all happened yesterday. Some things flat did not happen at all. But generally, the memories were flooding my heart, and my sweet husband held my hand through it all as I wiped tears from my face. I have JESUS in my heart and him by my side for 49 years. @@bettierusso5410 I know Hollywood screenwriters have to make a movie fit a formula for a storyline and when it's based on real people and real stories, it's never exactly as it occurred, which can be hurtful to those who know the real people. We saw Jesus Revolution last evening at AMC 12 in Duncansville, Pa. We loved how true it was to what we remember from the Jesus movement. We were young teens during that time, but nothing surprised me because it was authentically portrayed. I was a faithful church girl, having accepted Jesus at age 9 and was baptized in the church of the brethren. When my dad God saved supernaturally after a vision when I was 13, he would pick up hitchhikers on their way west and bring them home for a meal. He was only 34 or 35, but he was all- in with the Lord and witnessed to many of these people. The movie was a blessed stroll down memory lane.
