This hour long extravaganza was aired nationally on November 10, 2011 at 8:30 p.m. In this clip, Arturo Sandoval gives an electric performance of "A Night in Tunisia", also featuring one the Air Force Band's own SMSgt Tim Leahy on trumpet.

I like how every time he plays another octave at 4:40 the camera cuts to a new angle

AmericanPatriot76 It's a triple G, so lower than a triple C, but above a double. However, the real kicker is that he often plays this as the finisher for a 90 minute concert. Also, to play it in tune and have it even be recognized is astounding

Miguel Aravena nah, lots of people can play that high. He's one of the only ones who are crazy enough to use those notes in an actual piece of music
I'm a trumpet player and I'm in tenth grade and my music teacher gave us this song to play in jazz band and I love it so much and he showed us this and I had to watch it again... Such a great inspiration, wish I could learn how to solo lol

You can learn how to improv it's simple once you understand the scales and cords it's a lot of fun even if you don't get it perfect at first

That conductor just vibing is the greatest thing ever.
I just love how Sandoval used the same intro for his solo from 20 years ago. If you watch a video of him playing with Dizzy, he uses the same intro for that solo

That intro solo is the famous "alto break" from Charlie Parkers' Night in Tunisia.
That trill at 4:35 almost sounded like it was in the Tuba range, holy crap

It is in the tuba range, how he got that good is cause he's had like 60-70 years of trumpet practice in his life span.

As a 29 yr old black man from Detroit who grew up off hip hop. I can truly say I love jazz it's my favorite genre as I grew up in age

Arturo, I'm ashamed to admit that I have been a fan of trumpet for more than 30 years, but did not even know you existed until this past year! I have been watching several videos of you on youtube, and am truly amazed! My father played trumpet (he died while playing a gig, so it was a good way to go for him) and I am now learning at the age of 62. I played saxophone decades ago and conclude that trumpet HAS to be the most difficult instrument to learn! Thank you for being a great inspiration to many!

as a student trumpet player. (;( ) I think brass is decently hard sense all it is is a metal hole, but then trumpet gets this tiny hole they have to shoot a fast small stream of air down. so personally it feels pretty hard

saw him live in Miami at his club with my father years ago. I am always surprised at how much Jazz knowledge my father has. No one still really knows about his club in Miami.

My high school Jazz band had thr privilege to meet sit with him and perform a couple of songs for him to give us feedback, went thr bell rang in thr school he just picked up his trumpet and pkayed thr exact note immediately and did a little run to the next octive, and when we were playing our song he started pkaying alinf note for note, he's an amazing takent and person
Words are hard to explain how phenomenal Arturo plays the great trumpet. So many beautiful notes in that expressive Arturo way of making all his fans happy and fortunate to have him playing so great all the time. you know guys like Doc Severson Clark Terry Miles Wynton Charlie Shavers Chet Baker all the legends salute Arturo for his beautiful heavenly tone. We love him dearly and to hear him play trumpet is like God sending down angels so if you ever want to get closer to heaven listen to the God Given Talent of Arturo. thank you and god bless you Arturo BOOM

I thank God for allowing me to live in a time when I could hear and meet Dizzy Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval, Phil Smith, Tim Clarke, Jim Bohm, John Maguda, Mark Filesinger, Hansel Hererra DeChapelles, and some other of the worlds greatest trumpeter's.
Maybe I am the only Tunisian who knows about this song. is there anyone here ? That's so beautiful, thanks for the feelings.

Arturo is an amazing trompet player he can hit super low notes but also super high notes... genius!
My Dad, a lifelong trumpet player, passed away recently. This reminded me of him. Wonderful,

That is just mental ! At the end, where he goes from the lowest note possible, up to something octaves above what us lesser mortals could dream of ..... unbelievable !
His solos are just so amazing. They aren't based around just stuff in the upper register which he could do. It's just shows why scales are just as important as range

Absolutely incredible and he plays that way EVERY time.
As a jazz musician the last time I was in my favorite local venue the band performing was the Kaiko Matsui band at the end of the night the gracious owner sat in for couple of songs & had every right to blow the roof off Arturo!
I would say this is undoubtedly one of the greatest trumpet performances of all time. There are no words

Got to cut an album with Arturo this past week. The power behind his sound is absolutely ridiculous. Talk about instantaneous dynamic change, and a mastery of both technical insanity and gorgeous tone. Great guy to boot, super fun to work with. High standards, yes, but really laid back and relaxed too.

It was to hear his amazing story about his personal relationship with Dizzy Gillespie. Without Diz, he would not be world famous. Since this is originally a Dizzy chart, it is fun to hear his take on the standard.
