Le Roi del'élégance. Bravo!
So beautiful... And slower than the DGG recording some years later... ABM the Master of all the Masters, you will be always in our soul and heart....
Bestiale ! Comme disent nos cousins transalpins .
My favorite with the Brahms Ballades, by far :)
Grazie Maestro!
Dignity, poise, and grace.

! Bravo d'avoir trouvé ce triptyque !
Non ci sono parole...
Unbelievable! Benedetti's reading of Brahms' Ballades is almost unmatched; maybe by Gilels, but in another musical universe.

I think you get the point. They are two different musical universes and both are at the extreme apex beyond which I believe no one can go. My heart remains with ABM, dark, inconsolable, and sparkling with its aching passion.

Wonderful.
BEAUTIFUL ! ! ! Thank you for posting !

Really?
Alive and kicking!!!!
Absolutely wonderful! People disturbing this unearthly beauty by coughing should be put to trial though.

It's unavoidable in live performance with an audience. This performance is much less disturbed by this than many others -- the coughs are quite few!
Thanks for uploading!
I always go to Horowitz for Rachmaninoff, Rubinstein for Chopin's Nocturnes, and Michelangeli for Brahms' Ballades..
Devastating.

nr 3 is famous,
peccato per i soliti colpi di tosse
COMMOVENTE L 'ULTIMA BALLATA.. RIFLESSIONI INTIMISMO SENSO DI SCONFITTA MONDO PERDUTO...

First time I heard the "Vier Balladen" was circa 45 years ago in a black and white TV transmission, played by Michelangeli. For a long time I thought the playing unsurpassable until I heard Krystian Zimerman! Michelangeli is great but Zimerman squeezes dry all the beauty and emotion contained in that piece. Every note stands for itself and absolutely nothing is out of place. My favourite of all times. If someone has the DG Galleria 419-472-1 and has the means to upload it please do. Every music lover will be grateful.

Can't place Zimmerman with Brahms. Heard Zimmerman with the 1st piano concerto which to me sounded soulless. Will try out the Ballades tho.
On #1: To be honest, I find the first section of the D minor too slow. It sounds like a dirge. Gould does the same thing, and slower. On #2: The middle section is too stiff and the repeat of the original theme could be a bit faster, but I realize that is a question of taste. On #3: Here, I find him more successful. And no weird tempi. On #4: Again, the whole performance simply too slow for my taste. I realize that it is a richly sonorous piece, but I feel that giving it a bit more energy would enhance its beauty. Listen to Artur Rubinstein for a more satisfactory set of performances.
