Artists House Master Class Barry Harris - Performance
Музыка
In this clip from www.artistshousemusic.org - Barry Harris in conjunction with NYU and Artists House Foundation presented a Master Class on November 14th, 2004. Barry charmed us with his talent, humor and the beautiful choral choir scattered through the audience, a surprise and delight to those of us attending. Dr. Harris, a renowned jazz pianist, composer and teacher is a Detroit-bred jazz musician and keeper of the bebop flame. Dizzie Gillespie, Thelonious Monk, Bud Powell, Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins have influenced Harris' jazz style and you will hear Harris mention some of these masters in the video. In this master class, you get a taste of Harris' extensive knowledge and love of teaching and how he continues to serve as a mentor to developing pianists.

He's so good you can almost hear the brushes on the snare and muted trumpet playing along with him.

That's right
Every single time I've heard Mr. Harris play and/or speak, I feel like I am a better person for it. So much to aspire to both as a musician and a human being.

2-6-4-7 should be titled “When my mind met my heart”
After watching this guy for a few months, I've come to understand his Master Classmanship...a true master.
I wish in our lifetime we all have had enough time to learn, and that's for everything. There are people that devote their life to something, and even near the end they are still learning. Maybe somewhere here after we get enough time to understand, what a legend, love you Harris
This guy was a selfless giving teacher ... I'm proud of him, love him !!!!!!!!!
Me: KZread, recommend me some jazz piano performance. YT: Don't worry son, I gotcha.
Mr. Barry Harris creates addiction, I listen him once and now I can not stop.
Barry Harris you are such a gentle loving soul !!! You're genius at the piano is so special and beyond words.
Keep in mind that Barry Harris at his old age was still practicing. After everything he accomplished and learned, he was still learning. Because you never stop learning and trying to improve.
Rest in peace to the greatest. I'll continue to listen to this every few days for the rest of my life.
Our Ancient Ancestors said a human experiences two deaths. once when the physical body perishes and secondly whentheir name is no longer spoken. The name of BARRY HARRIS is spoken more and more since the day he passed on...BARRY HARRIS LIVES..................................................................................................
I HAVE NEVER MET BARRY HARRIS , BUT AFTER LISTENING/ LEARNING FROM HIS PIANO LESSONS SITE I'M CALLING HIM " UNCLE BARRY " . MUCH RESPECT TO THIS MASTER MUSICIAN OF MUSIC.

That nacimento was so cute when they all sang. Omg. yess.
this man's playing and speaking are like a lens to me; brining in focus so many things that I knew were there, but they were too fuzzy to really understand
I'm not cryin.. I'm just shedding some manly tears

The rare Free Spirit of a Genius.........unites us.
Perhaps the greatest jazz teacher in history.
Watching him create music so flawlessly is moving and emotional. What an inspiration!
Although he would laugh, he is about as close embodying pure beauty as anyone person can get.
'Who Knows When' (11:50) just blew my socks off completely. Amazing
Amazing Barry-My Mentor!
Man I am so glad I found this inspiring, phenomenal video with Barry Harris simply putting on a master class, goodness, insight, harmony, in music, thank you Barry
An Amazing man who was a true Master Musician ! He will be missed by all that knew his Music & teaching . This was great concert !
This man is magic.
Thank you for this video. Such a joy to feel his ambiance and love coming through. Some of my best outings I had when I lived in NY were catching gigs in the Village Vanguard for the Monday night Big Band and then hearing Barry perform at Bradley's on University Place. Total inspiration indeed .
What an educated audience! They know the lyrics to the song and sing along
This is what years and years at the piano by a person that knows his way around the keys can do. (Knowing music theory is a given)
His touch is scarily beautiful
Just beautiful!
Such beauty!!
Beautiful!!
beautiful..bravo barry,,,a voice of sanity in a world gone mad !!
I learn to play jazz both ways, theory and playing ..after many years i am able to hold the sound of the chords in my mind ,the progression,...how come? if you practice the arpegios for ever..they dictate the sound of the chords..
outstanding!
Amazing Beautiful !!!!

True Master classes as he is a real masterful player who then explains exactly what he did. Such a lost art. Each vid I watch something makes a little more sense than the way I learned it. Dr Harris is Surely, my one of my favorite teacher/players. I Wish I could’ve studied with him. Thanks for your service, sir!
Barry Harris is the Bernstein of jazz, or is it the other way around? ❤️ So much love for music and people, it's just magical

I'm an aspiring jazz pianist, but I've been playing (Self Taught) for 4 years. I got into Jazz about a year ago. I wonder how long it would take me to play as humble and as elegantly as Mr. Harris. A wonderful teacher, and a funny one too!

+Marcus Guyton It'll take you around 10 years to understand everything he's doing to a theoretical level, but to perform it? Depends on your natural talent, hard-work and effort. It can take 10 years to 50 years. All the young cats I see who have amazing technique already are the ones who have been playing since kids.

You can't put a time limit on learning. The best you can do is keep learning as much as you can, and master the basics. There many other factors that go into becoming great, but that's all I can elaborate on for now

Play random chords in random voicings and then take your time to listen where the chords will lead you to. Don’t produce, just listen. Wrap yourself in sound. Take time. Play around with 2 5 1... listen. Just listen. Allow for sadness. Give up to know, fingers will figure something out. Life is so short anyway. Soon, we’ll all be gone. To use time for play is the only comfort. No one knows why this is. Cry and be happy, it’s all there is.
